Preparing for your auction in SCM STAR Java verification
Introduction The Auction Monitor is a bidding window in which you can place a bid in an auction. Before you can participate in a training or a live auction you need to check whether the required Java-version (at least Java v8 1.8) is installed on your computer. Please follow the procedure: 1. First, check your currently installed Java-version -> see slide 3 2. If necessary, install the required Java-version -> see slide 4 3. Access check to Auction Monitor -> see slide 5 ff. Page 2
Java version check There are several ways to check which Java version is installed on your computer, please refer to https://www.java.com for information. You can also use the following quick test: 1. Click the Windows Start icon. 2. Type cmd in the edit box Search programs and files 3. Click the cmd icon to open the command line window 4. In the cmd window, type java version 5. Press Enter the cmd window will display information on the Java version that is currently installed on your computer NOTE: The Auction Monitor requires Java v8 1.8 or higher! It is recommended to use a physical Internet connection (LAN Cable) instead of wireless. Page 3
If your Java version is v7 or lower If you have an older Java version installed (Java v8 is required 1.8). Please install the latest Java-version on your computer. Please use the following resources if you need support: Java support https://www.java.com - provides download of the latest Java version free of charge plus detailed information in several languages on how to find out which Java version is installed on your computer, how to uninstall an old Java version, how to install the latest Java version etc. Contact your local IT support for installation assistance. Access check to Auction Monitor (test event) The Auction Monitor is a bidding window in which you can place a bid in an auction. Before you can participate in a training or a live auction you need to check if you can access the Auction Monitor. Here is how: 1. Go to https://s2c.siemens.com/ 2. Enter your username and password and click Submit 3. Username: testmyauctionmonitor6 Password: Jupiter99!123 NB: These are not the username and password which you will use for the training or live event but those that have been provided to you for this access test only. Access check in a test event 3. In the top right corner, click the link TestMyAuctionMonitor- Event in the Open and Pending Auctions portlet. This opens the event. Page 6
Access check in a test event 4. In the top right corner of the auction page click the Auction Monitor link. NOTE: It is recommended to use a physical Internet connection (LAN Cable) instead of wireless. Page 7
Access check in a test event 5. On the next page select the client version Java (this is the default option) and then click the Enter button. If you are using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, see next page. If you are using Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, skip the next page. NOTE: It is recommended to use a physical Internet connection (LAN Cable) instead of wireless. Page 8
Access check in a test event - additional steps Google Chrome / MS Edge If you are using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, the following additional steps are required: 1 1. Below the orange information box, click the green button to create the Auction Monitor start file. 2. Download the file (the name of the file reflects the name of the auction). 3. Click on the file in the download bar in the browser to open the jnlp file. 4. The Java loading symbol is displayed. Continue as described on the next page. 3 2 4 Page 9
Access check in a test event 6. If there are security warnings or other messages, give permission to run Java (example screenshot below click Run). While the Auction Monitor is loading the Java loading symbol is displayed or the monitor window may just be blank. Loading the application may take some time. NOTE: It is recommended to use a physical Internet connection (LAN Cable) instead of wireless. Page 10
Access check in a test event 7. When the Auction Monitor is fully loaded (see picture) the access check was successful. Please do not enter a bid - this is not a training event. Close the Auction Monitor window and log off on the auction page. Use the same device with the same Java settings to take part in the training and live events. Page 11
