.. >TECHNICAL SUPPORT. PRODUCT LIFECYCLE BULLETIN. Hardware Lifecycle Support Update for Non-DDI SFPs used with ERS Data Products: Manufacturing Discontinued (MD) Notification BULLETIN ID: 2010010126, Rev 1 PUBLISHED: 2010-04-22 STATUS: Active REGION: APAC CALA EMEA GC NA PRIORITY: Information TYPE: Bulletin Background: Background: The following bulletin relates to a Product (or Service) purchased by Avaya as part of the acquisition of the Nortel (TM) Enterprise Business. The non-ddi SFPs using LC connectors, namely AA1419013, AA1419013-E5, AA1419013-GS, AA1419015, AA1419015-E5, AA1419015-GS, as well as all 40 Km and 70 Km CWDM SFP versions (AA1419024 through AA1419040, including -E5 and GS varients), have been Manufacturing Discontinued and are no longer orderable (since December 31, 2009). These parts have been replaced with Digital Diagnostic Monitoring Interface (DDI) equivalent models; previously new orders for the older parts were automatically replaced with the newer parts. The DDI models provide the same form, fit and functionality as the discontinued non-ddi models, as well as being able to provide DDI capabilities if the product has such software support. Without the additional DDI software support, the DDI models will function exactly like the prior discontinued models. The End of Life (EoL) date for these non-ddi parts is now set at December, 31 2014. Associated with the new DDI SFP is a software component. Upgrading system software is not a requirement to support the new DDI SFPs. Depending on which version of software deployed, the following product behaviors will be seen: - Below the minimum SW release for DDI SFP recognition - SFP recognition errors will be seen but the SFP will function as normal - Minimum SW release for DDI SFP Recognition (or above) - DDI SFP will come up recognized - SW versions supporting full DDI feature support may also be available on some products. The detail information regarding various products and minimum software releases for these capabilities is included in this bulletin. Avaya Data Solutions (ADS) has an established process for managing the support of products over their complete life cycle; from concept, through release, and their eventual retirement. Accordingly the Life Cycle Management Practice for Enterprise Data products defines specific degrees of product status which align to the life cycle design phases. General Availability (GA) applies to products, releases, and associated design documentation that have undergone full process validation and meet all criteria for design quality and volume production. A full suite of product support and services, is available for GA products. Manufacture Discontinued (MD) applies to products, releases, and associated design documentation that are no longer supported by production related processes. After the transition to MD the product is no longer orderable. In the period
leading up to this date the product's entry in Price Lists will denote the pending discontinuation (utilizing the 'D' for Discontinuation flag). Note that a limited set of support services are available during the MD lifecycle phase. End of Life (EoL) applies to products, releases, and associated design documentation that are no longer supported by design and manufacturing processes. Emergency recovery is available subject to spares availability. Technical support may be available to a commercially reasonable extent or as stipulated in contracts. Note that EoL products are generally considered as unsupported, and any decision to provide incremental support at this status is at the sole discretion of Avaya Data Solutions (ADS). Please reference the Enterprise Lifecycle management practice for further information regarding lifecycle change information at: http://www.nortel.com/support/programs/lifecycle Analysis: The tables below list the SFP part description, MD part number for the non-ddi model, and replacement part number for the DDI model. Recommendations: It is recommended that customers carefully review their current purchasing against their future requirements and make necessary plans for transitioning to the appropriate replacement product. Avaya Data Solutions (ADS) also recommends customers review the products software release revisions and lifecycle plans for proper support of the new replacement parts.
