TynTec Services for VASCO Digipass family Primary SMS Solution and SMS Back-up PRIMARY When Virtual Digipass is used as a primary authentication mechanism, it simply replaces the physical Digipass. The Virtual Digipass is processed by the Vacman Middleware (or your specific integration) as any other kind of Digipass, excepting the fact that you don't carry a physical device with you. Users login as normal but with the One Time Password they receive under the form of a text message BACKUP Virtual Digipass can be used as a backup authentication method. Users that don't have their regular physical Digipass available are still able to login to the network, without relying on (expensive) helpdesk support. The average costs per helpdesk call are a much higher than the cost of a SMS. In order to reduce the cost related to sending the SMS messages, a grace period - or a fixed time frame that needs to pass first - can be pre-defined, just like the maximum number times the user can utilize the backup method. 6

The Virtual Digipass solution combines the benefits from strong two-factor authentication mechanism and low Total Cost of Ownership as no physical token is involved - with TynTec s exceptional strict Service Level on delivering secure SMS This system, being automated, does not require any helpdesk interaction or significant infrastructure to be implemented. From the user's perspective, it is a very effective continuity of service in case a back-up token is needed that shows the ability to still offering a secure authentication. All Vacman Middleware features are available (Dynamic User Registration, Grace Period, Auto Assign...) except for Self-Assign since no Physical Token is involved.
