NOOK Classic, Touch, Glow, Kobo, Literati, Pandigital What you will need: 1. Your library card and PIN number. Your library card must be in good standing. Also, if you don t have a PIN, go to the library s homepage (www.rmlib.org) and click RML Account Login under Quick Links to set up your PIN. If you have forgotten your PIN, you can call the library s Check Out Desk and they can delete your PIN, then you can follow the directions above to set up a new PIN. 2. The computer that you will use with this device and internet connection 3. A cord to connect your Nook to your computer (USB cable) Setup Note: Before downloading an ebook to your Nook, software must be installed and set-up procedures followed. Adobe Digital Editions is the software that allows your reader to open ebooks from My Media Mall. My Media Mall is the website you will use to find, checkout and download ebooks. The link is found on the left side of Rolling Meadows Library s homepage. Installing Adobe Digital Editions onto your computer: 1. Go to our website (rmlib.org). 2. Under Quick Links (left side menu), click ebooks & More. 3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Software. 4. Select Download Adobe Digital Editions. 5. Click Install or Download now. After installation is complete, click Launch. Follow the downloading and installation process by clicking next and install buttons. After setup is complete, click Close and I Agree. When the Setup Assistant screen appears, click Continue to move to the next page. 1
NOOK Classic, Touch, Glow, Kobo, Literati, Pandigital 6. Click on get an Adobe ID online. This will launch your web browser and redirect you to the Adobe web site where you can create an Adobe ID. 7. Click on Create an Adobe Account. Fill out the starred items on the form that appears and click Continue at the bottom of the page. 8. Whenever you use a new computer or device for ebooks, you will be prompted to Authorize the device. Return to Adobe Digital Editions and enter the Adobe ID (e-mail) and password that you created. Be sure that Authorize Computer is selected. Click the Activate button. 9. Click Finish to close the Setup Assistant dialog box. Note: If you would like to transfer an ebook from Adobe Digital Editions to an ereader, be sure to authorize your ereader using the same Adobe ID. 2
NOOK Classic, Touch, Glow, Kobo, Literati, Pandigital Find and Download an ebook from My Media Mall: 1. Return to My Media Mall (see Setup Note on page 1). Click on Sign In at the top of the page. Select Rolling Meadows Library from the drop-down menu. Sign in using your library card number and PIN number. 2. Search for a specific title by typing it in the search box at the top of the page. You may refine your search by clicking Advanced Search. To find books which are immediately available for check-out, click the Available Now box. 3. Select a title. At this point, you may change the loan period to 14 or 7 days. Click on Borrow. Note: If instead of Borrow it says Place a Hold, it means the title is checked out, but you can request to be notified when it is available by clicking Place a Hold. 4. Click on Go to Bookshelf. 5. Click the Download button and select EPUB ebook. 6. Click on Confirm & Download. 7. When prompted, choose to Open with Adobe Digital Editions. Note: Do Not Select Save File. 3

Plug your ereader into your computer using your USB cable and wait until the computer acknowledges it. If prompted, authorize your device using the Adobe ID and password registered with Adobe Digital Editions. (See step 8 of Install ing Adobe Digital Editions on page 2.) 2. Once the ebook you downloaded opens in Adobe Digital Editions, click on the icon for Library View in the left corner. All ebooks in your personal library can be viewed and sorted from this screen. 3. Drag and drop the ebook to the link for your ereader shown under Bookshelves on the left. 4. Close Adobe Digital Editions software and properly eject the Nook. 5. To find the book on the Nook: Press the button on the front go to the home page Touch Library Touch My Stuff Then My Files Tap Digital Editions. The title of the book you downloaded should appear under a generic book icon. Or, from the Home screen, touch More in the top right corner to find My Files. 4

Open Adobe Digital Editions on your computer. 3. Activate the drop down menu next to the book by clicking the Item Options button (indicated by the yellow arrow). Select Return Borrowed Item from the Item Options menu. 4. After returning the item, select Delete Item from the same menu to remove it from the device. Note to Mac users: Close Adobe Digital Editions, plug in your device and then re-open ADE. Your computer may not recognize your device if you plug it in after Adobe Digital Editions is already open. 5

Install OverDrive s mobile app and authorize your NOOK: Before you can install the OMC app from the NOOK store, you will need to register your device and set up a credit card on your account. If you need help, go to Barnes & Noble s support page. 1. From your home page, push the n button then tap Apps. 2. Tap the Shop Now link near the top of the screen. 3. Type OverDrive Media Console into the search bar then tap Search. 4. Tap Free then Confirm. 5. Open the app.tap the menu icon (three bars in a circle). 6. Select App Settings. Choose Authorize with Adobe ID. 7. Tap Get a free Adobe ID and fill in the starred items on the page and tap Create. 6
NOOK Color, Tablet, HD and HD+ Downloading an ebook from My Media Mall: 1. Once you have the ID, return to the app and enter the ID and password. 2. Tap the Menu icon. Tap Get Books. 3. Tap Add a Library. Type in our zip code 60008 and choose Rolling Meadows Library. 4. Tap the star to save this location the star will turn yellow. 5. Tap My Media Mall and tap sign in (upper right corner). Choose Rolling Meadows Library from the pull-down list of libraries. Type in your RML card number and PIN. 6. After finding a book (see search hints below), tap the book cover. 7. Scroll down. At this point, you can change the loan period from 14 to 7 days. Tap Borrow. 8. Tap Download. After the book has been added to your device, tap the menu icon (3 bars in a circle) at the bottom of the screen, tap Bookshelf, then tap the book you want to read. 7
NOOK Color, Tablet, HD and HD+ Hints for browsing or searching: Tap the magnifying glass icon to search for a title, author or subject. Tap the magnifying glass, then tap Advanced Search to limit format to EPUB or MP3. To find books that you can check out right now, choose a format or subject on the Advanced Search page and tap Available Now. The format icon on the upper right corner of the cover (an open book or headphones) indicates whether the title is an ebook or an audiobook. A dark gray icon (book or headphones) indicates that the item can be checked out now. A light gray icon indicates that the item is not available and can be placed on hold. Tap the cover, then scroll down and tap Place a Hold. The screen will change to verify your e-mail address, tap Place a Hold on this screen. 8
