Forms of communication in 21 st century "Successful Communication-The future of Europe"

Definition of Communication The roots of the word communication (communis, or common) accurately portray its purpose. In communication the speaker is attempting to be one with the listener. In the process of being one we develop a communion, a transaction, a dialogue. At its foundation, communication involves a uniting and exchanging of thoughts. As a result, the speaker is obligated to create a clear picture of reality to stimulate listeners to make common his or her thoughts.

Verbal - oral - written Non-verbal - gesture - body language - posture - tone of voice - facial expressions Forms of Communication

Professor Albert Mehrabian's (UCLA) communications model

Some things never change Before human beings created languages and alphabets, they communicated with both sound and body language.

Some things never change Some of these stories became illustrations, probably drawn in the dust on the ground before eventually developing into petroglyphs, or paintings created on cave walls.

The change of the methods of communication in the recent decades In recent decades the media and mass communications have experienced a spectacular boom, becoming more numerous and more accessible. In the information age media must meet a very important requirement: realtime communication. For these reasons most commonly used means are (mobile), the Internet and the mass media: television, Internet and radio. Postal service is considered outdated, being used more in service providing (transportation of goods, delivery invoices). In the last decade, internet and mobile telephony have experienced a spectacular boom, gradually dominating the field.

Communi -cation platforms in the 21 st century The most important communication platforms people use today are the social networks on the internet such as: Facebook Instagram Twitter WhatsApp Youtube Skype

Facebook Facebook is an online social networking service headquartered in Menlo Park, California. Its website was launched on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg with his Harvard College roommates The founders had initially limited the website's membership to Harvard students, but later expanded it to colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University. Since 2006, anyone who is at least 13 years old was allowed to become a registered user of the website. After registering to use the site, users can create a user profile, add other users as "friends", exchange messages, post status updates and photos, share videos and receive notifications when others update their profiles. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics, and categorize their friends into lists such as "People From Work" or "Close Friends". Facebook had over 1.18 billion monthly active users as of August 2015.

Instagram Instagram is an online mobile photosharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. Originally, a distinctive feature was that it confined photos to a square shape, similar to Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid images, in contrast to the 4:3 aspect ratio typically used by mobile device cameras. In August 2015, version 7.5 was released, allowing users to post photos captured in any aspect ratio. Users can also apply digital filters to their images. The maximum duration for Instagram videos is 15 seconds.

Twitter Twitter is an online social networking service that enables users to send and read short 140- character messages called "tweets". Registered users can read and post tweets, but unregistered users can only read them. Users access Twitter through the website interface, SMS, or mobile device app. Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass and launched in July 2006. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with more than 100 million users who posted 340 million tweets per day in 2012. The service also handled 1.6 billion search queries per day. In 2013, Twitter was one of the ten most-visited websites and has been described as "the SMS of the Internet".As of May 2015, Twitter has more than 500 million users.

WhatsApp WhatsApp Messenger is a proprietary crossplatform instant messaging client for smartphones that operates under a subscription business model. It uses the Internet to send text messages, images, video, user location and audio media messages to other users using standard cellular mobile numbers. As of September 2015, WhatsApp had a user base of up to 900 million, making it the most globally popular messaging application.

Youtube YouTube is a video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California, United States. The service was created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005. In November 2006, it was bought by Google for US$1.65 billion.youtube now operates as one of Google's subsidiaries. The site allows users to upload, view, and share videos and displays a wide variety of usergenerated and corporate media video. Available content includes video clips, TV clips, music videos, and other content such as video blogging, short original videos, and educational videos. Most of the content on YouTube has been uploaded by individuals, but media corporations including CBS, the BBC, Vevo and other organizations offer some of their material via YouTube, as part of the YouTube partnership program. Unregistered users can watch videos, and registered users can upload videos to their channels.

Skype Skype is an application that specializes in providing video chat and voice calls. Users can also exchange text and video messages, files and images, as well as create conference calls. Skype is available on Microsoft Windows, Mac, or Linux, as well as Android, Blackberry, ios and Windows smartpho nes and tablets. Skype is based on a freemium model. Much of the service is free, but users require Skype Credit or a subscription to call landline or mobile numbers. As of February 2012, there were 34 million concurrently online on Skype; there were over 660 million worldwide users, with over 300 million estimated active each month as of August 2015.

Back to the Beginning Sometimes, however, simply talking face-to-face is truly the most effective type of communication, and this fact is why students should learn how to craft and deliver effective speeches.
