ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 2 OF 9 Acquiring Echo360 Personal Capture You can install Personal Capture on your Mac, allowing you to capture audio, video, and your computer screen. Recommended/Required Hardware and Software: Note: Other configurations may work but have not been tested. Processor: Intel Single Core 1.8 GHz processor (Intel Dual Core 1.8 GHz processor for audio, display and/or video capture) Administrator access RAM: 2GB Network Interface: 10/100 Mac OS X 10.7 and above QuickTime 7.5.5 or later (installed with OS X) Internal audio device or external microphone Video device 1. Request access Before downloading the software you must have access to UIC s Echo360 page. You can request access by filling out the lecture capture request form, found at: http://go.uic.edu/signupforecho360 You must log in using your netid and password. A B C 2015.spring.echo... Click Submit Request Provide additional information if available: Publish to: This option will allow you to publish directly to your Blackboard courses or itunesu from the Personal Capture software.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 3 OF 9 2. Download software Navigate to echo360.uic.edu, where it will ask for your netid and password. Log in. Click the Downloads tab. Choose Installer for EchoSystem Personal Capture (Mac OS X) to download the software. Note: Pay attention to the download location. 3. Install Double click the downloaded file to begin the installation. You will be prompted to accept a license agreement. Click on I accept the agreement and Next to continue. Continue clicking Next through the install wizard. 4. Confirm Click Finish to finalize the installation, creating a desktop shortcut and launching the application.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 4 OF 9 Configuring Echo360 Personal Capture Properly configuring Echo360 Personal Capture will allow high quality capture and direct upload to BlackBoard. 1. Start the software When Pesronal Captuer starts it presents the Welcome Screen. Click Start Recording. 2. Open Preferences Expand Echo360 Personal Capture on the menu bar and click Preferences... 3. Enter server information In the Server tab, enter the ESS URL : https://uic-cc-ess1.ad.uic.edu and Port 8443 Click Test Connection. It will tell you if the server settings are correct. 4. Enter storage location In the General tab, click Change to select the save location of your captures. Note: Remember this so you can backup captures. The Welcome Screen from step one can also be disabled by unchecking the Welcome Screen box. Click OK. 5. Open configuration Click Configure, found on the capture window.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 5 OF 9 6. Define inputs For each option select the input device. Audio: An audio input is required. Video (Left): Choose Screen to record the computer display. Video (Right): Choose additional inputs such as another screen or a webcam. Note: Choose Actual Size under Video Quality if capturing text or Powerpoint presentations. 7. Choose Inputs to record Select which inputs to record by checking Enabled. Audio is selected by default. Notes
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 6 OF 9 Recording with Echo360 Personal Capture Properly configuring Echo360 Personal Capture will allow high quality capture and direct upload to BlackBoard. 1. Access the recording interface Click Start Recording to access the recording interface. Skip this step if you are already there. 2. Check configuration Refer to Configuring Echo360 Personal Capture for: Capture inputs Capture quality 4. Click Start Capture After five seconds the capture begins and the preview window minimizes. 5. Pause or Stop While minimized you can use hotkeys: Pause/Resume: Command + 6 Stop: Command + 8 You can also click Stop or Pause in the software, but this will be recorded in your display capture. 6. Perform editing or Review captures To perform editing, refer to Editing with Echo360 Capture. Click My Recordings to go to a list of captures. 7. Capture list All captures should appear in My Recordings. From this menu you can choose to edit any of the captures or Publish to the Echo360 server.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 7 OF 9 Editing with Echo360 Personal Capture You can trim the start and end or remove sections from the middle of captures using Personal Capture s simple tools. Note: You may want to backup your files before editing. Alternatively you can upload the originals to the Echo360 server before editing. To upload files please see Publishing Captures with Echo360. Access the Editing Interface From the My Recordings window click on the View/Edit button to access the editing interface. The Editing Interface: A. Current Time B. Trim Markers C. Cut Markers D. Play E. Stop F. Volume G. Perform cut B A B C D E F G 1. Set Trim Markers Drag the Trim Markers to the desired locations to remove the beginning or end of the video. Portions to be removed will turn grey.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 8 OF 9 2. Set the Cut Markers Select the segment to be removed by setting the Cut Markers. The buttons can also be clicked to add markers. 3. Click Make Cut Click Scissors Icon to set the current cut. The removed segment will turn a grey. The cut markers will now be available to make additional cuts. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until edits are complete. 4. Review edits Click the Play button at any time to review the edited capture. 5. Apply edits Clicking Apply Edits makes your changes permanent. 6. Confirm edits An alert will appear. Click Okay to confirm edits. Once confirmed, edits can not be undone! 7. Wait for editing to finish The edits will process in the My Recordings window. Wait for the progress bar to finish.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 9 OF 9 Publishing with Echo360 Personal Capture Publishing a capture uploads the file to the ESS for processing. Once processed, the capture is posted in the EchoCenter for the section you select, allowing students to view the material. Note: You must have a course to upload to EchoCenter. Request access at: http://go.uic.edu/signupforecho360 1. Click Publish Click once on a capture to highlight it. Click the Publish button. 2. Log in Use your netid and password. Skip this step if you have already logged in. 3. Choose a section If you have multiple courses they will be listed here. Choose one to publish to. Click Next. 4. Choose a Product Group A product group defines what aspects of the capture you will upload. Choose Audio, Audio and Video, and so on. Click Next. 6. Create a new Echo An Echo is another name for a capture. Select Create New Echo. Click Next 7. Enter a Title and Publish Enter a title and click the Publish button. The capture will upload.
