3 1 CaptureSpace for Desktop Recording software 1.1 Installing the CaptureSpace for Desktop on windows computers. 1.2 Browser Recommendation When using CaptureSpace for Desktop it is recommended that you use either Firefox or Chrome as your browser. There are some functionality issues you may experience if using Internet Explorer, ISDS are currently working on resolving these. 1.3 Win10 laptops If you have a university win10 laptop then you will already have CaptureSpace for Desktop recording software installed. 1.4 Win7 Laptops and All Desktop PCs For windows 7 laptops and all PCs you will have to request this software to be installed via the helpline on Ext For Mac Devices 1. Login to mmutube 2. Click on Add New 3. Select CaptureSpace for Desktop 4. Select download for Mac Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 3
4 5. Click on the downloaded file to install CaptureSpace for Desktop. 6. Click on the icon to start install 7. Click on Open Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 4
5 8. When you get this message, you need to follow the instructions 1 to Login to mmutube 2. Click on Add New 3. Select CaptureSpace for Desktop 9. If you see this message then click on Allow 10. 6 1.6 Launching CaptureSpace for Windows Devices. 1. Login to 2. Click on Add New 3. Select CaptureSpace for Desktop 4. Once the application is installed you will see this panel for you to start captures. Or alternatively you can launch CaptureSpace for desktop via the shortcut icon. 1.7 Still Having problems installing the software? 7 2 Using CaptureSpace for Desktop. 1. CaptureSpace for Desktop has five options for recording. Presentation & Lectures In this option you can record yourself using a webcam whilst capturing your PowerPoint Presentation or your screen. When you playback your capture, it will have the option of viewing in different modes, i.e. only the PowerPoint presentation, if that is what you captured, or just yourself, or have both the presentation as well as yourself side by side. Screen Record your whole screen or part of your screen Screen & Webcam Record your webcam along with your screen Webcam -Record your video Voice Create a podcast using the audio only option. 2. Prerequisite Before starting any recording, always click on the settings tab and check that the devices connected to your computer are working, i.e. Webcam (if your webcam is enabled you ll see this in the preview) and Microphone (The microphone slider bar will have a green audio level indicator sliding left to right as you speak into the microphone) Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 7
8 3. Click on Record Tab The following instructions are for recording your PowerPoint slides with voice over. Make sure you have your PowerPoint open. 4. Click on Screen Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 8
9 5. Select Full Screen and click on Record 6. Place your PowerPoint in Slide Show From Beginning. 7. Start your narration from slide to slide. You can Pause your recording if you need too and Resume and continue with your narration. You can also annotate on your slides by using the Draw option. 8. When you come to the end of your presentation, you can click on Done, to stop recording. You will be able to preview your recording and crop and trim your recording. 10 9. When you have finished previewing and editing your recording click on Done. Fill in the details and click on upload. This will upload your recording to Kaltura site in the cloud in your own personal video Library. You can check your upload by login in at this site If you want to upload your recording at a later date then click on save. ISDS do not recommend saving any content locally. If however you chose to do this please ensure that you back your files up to an appropriate storage area to avoid the risk of loss. Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 10
11 10. You will see the following screen with a successful upload. 11. Click on close. Your upload will be available once it has finished processing your recording, the time it takes to process your video will depend on the settings you ve selected and the length of your recording. 2.1 Check your upload. 12. 12 3 Making your recording available in Moodle 1. Login to Moodle 2. Select your unitcode 3. Turn Editing on 4. Select the Teaching week\topic you want your podcast to be available in. 5. Click on Add and activity or resource 6. Select Video/Audio Resource and click on Add Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 12
13 7. Fill in the details and Click on Add Media 8. Select your video and choose the appropriate Large, Medium or Small embed. 9. Save and return to Course. Your file will be saved in the folder that is specified in the settings tab. Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 13
14 4 Record on the fly In your Moodle environment you can record a short video snippet. This is a great way of quickly recording a personalised (records via a webcam) message on information you want to pass on to students. When using this option, it s advisable to keep the recording short. 1. Login to Moodle 2. Select the unitcode you want the video to be available in. 3. Turn editing on 4. Select the Week\Topic you want the video to be available in. 5. Select Video Audio Resource and click on Add 6. Fill in the details, i.e. Name and Description etc. 7. 15 8. Click on Add New and select Webcam Recording 9. If you get this message then click on Allow 10. Click anywhere to start recording Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 15
16 11. Click anywhere to stop recording 12. If you want to discard the recording and start again then click on the red button. 13. Click on save if you want to keep the recording. 14. Fill out the details and save Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 16
17 15. Click on Back to Browse and Embed 16. Select your video and choose the appropriate Large, Medium or Small embed. 17. Fill in the details and Click on Save and Return to course. Recording will be available once its processed. 5 Editing your Video Locally You can carry out basic editing on your video, trim and crop. 5.1 To Trim a video 1. In the Library tab, select the recording you would like to edit and click on the Pencil icon to edit. Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 17
18 2. Click on the Preview icon at the bottom of the screen. 3. Selecting preview place the video in play mode, click on Pause icon to stop the video playing. 4. Select Trim from the menu on the left. Two blue markers are displayed on the video strip. Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 18
19 5. Use the Start and End markers to highlight the part of the recording you want to retain. The region to the left and right of the markers is greyed out. Trimming is only possible if the resulting video is longer than 10 seconds. 6. Click Apply and then click Done if you are happy with your edits, otherwise click on Cancel to start again. NOTE: All edits made to the recording are made to the original file, therefore make sure you are happy with your edit as you will not be able to revert back to your original video. 7. If you do not want to trim the video or make any further edits then Click on Upload to upload to your personal video library in the cloud and then click on Close. 20 5.2 To chop a video 1. In the Library tab, select the recording you would like to edit 2. Click on the Preview icon at the bottom of the screen. Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 20

22 6 Trim and Clip video files in your media Library in the cloud using the Launch Editor. 6.1 Trim using the Launch Editor Trim to remove unwanted video from the beginning of your recording and to remove unwanted video from the end of your video. 1. 23 4. Click on Launch Editor 5. Click on Video Editor Edit Tab icon 6. It s good practice to create another copy to make your edits. This way you will always have the original video file to go back too. Use the Save a copy option to save it as another file. Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 23
24 7. Use the Left and Right Handle bars for removing unwanted video from the beginning and the end of video. 8. If you are happy with your edit click on Save. 6.2 Clip using the Launch Editor Clip - This option is used to create a clip from the video file. 1. Use the Left Handle bars to position at the start of the clip you want to create and use the right handle bar to position to the end of the clip. 2. Click on Save a Copy. 3. 25 4. Click OK 5. Go to My Media and you should find your Clip in your Media Library. 7 Media upload 1. Login to mmutube 2. Click on login. 3. Type in your userid and password. 4. Click on Add New and select Media Upload Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 25
26 5. Click on Choose file to upload 6. Navigate to your media file and click on open and the following screen will be displayed 7. Fill in the Name, Description and Tag details and save. You can upload another media file or go back to your Media. You will have to wait until the media has been processed by the system before you can publish. 27 8 Publishing your media file. If you are planning to publish your podcast into any one of the three galleries it is recommended that you first upload and save your media files. The reason behind this is that the upload process needs to complete successfully for the Published option to be enabled. Once your media files are uploaded and processed follow these instructions to publish. 1. Select My Media (option under Login tab) 2. Select your Media file(s) and click on Actions tab 3. And select Publish 4. Click on Published radio button and select only one of the galleries (Public or MMUonly or MMU-campus)s to publish in 5. 28 9 Creating a Playlist 1. Login to mmutube and select My Media (Prior to creating a playlist, make sure all the media files you want to include in your playlist are uploaded, follow instructions on media upload) 2. Select all the media files from the list you want to include in your playlist and then click on Actions tab and select Add to playlist. 3. In the Create new playlist type in the name of your playlist and click on create. Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 28
29 4. Your new playlist is created click on Save. 5. Click on Go to my Playlist 6. You can now grab the embed code (Press CTRL C to copy) and make the playlist available in Moodle. You can display your playlist either Horizontal or Vertical and option of displaying as a Dark or Light colour. 9.1 Make the playlist available in Moodle 1. Login to your Moodle environment 2. Select the unit you want your playlist to be available in 3. Turn Editing on 4. Select the teaching week you want your playlist to be available in 5. 30 6. Select Page resource and click on Add 7. Under General type in the name and Description for your resource 8. Under Content window click on Edit HTML code <> icon Paste the embed code of your playlist and click on update Kaltura Capture Space Desktop Recording user guide for staff 30
31 9. Click on Save and return to course and test your playlist out. 9.2 Adding media files to your existing playlist 1. Login to mmutube 2. Click on My Media 3. Select the media file(s) and click on Actions tab and select Add to Playlist 4) Select the playlist you want to add your media to and click on Save. 4. For the changes to take place you will need to logout of mmutube. 5. Go to your playlist in Moodle and check that selected media files has been added to your playlist. 9.3 Removing media files from the playlist. 1. Login to mmutube 2. 32 3. Select the playlist from which you want to remove your media files 4. Click on the x of the media file you want to remove and click on Delete. 5. Click on Save Changes. 6. Logout of mmutube for the changes to take place. 7. Login into Moodle and check that the selected media files have been removed from the playlist.
