Windows Computers To set up your device to be able to remote access onto your QMU account you will need to install the application Citrix Receiver This can be done by:- - Go to http://receiver.citrix.com.
- Click on the blue Download Receiver for Windows button - You will be taken to a screen that will automatically prompt you to download the CitrixReceiver.exe file, which is the Citrix Receiver setup program for Windows. Choose to download and run the Citrix Receiver setup program. Under receiver for windows there is a link to the latest version.
- When the Citrix Receiver setup program launches, click Start to follow the wizard to install the Citrix Receiver - After the installation is complete, you will be prompted to either Add Account or Finish. Just click Finish to complete the Citrix Receiver installation.
Once you have the Citrix receiver installed, you can no access the remote desktop. To do this you go to:- - Go to the QMU website https://www.qmu.ac.uk/ - In the top right corner of the page, select Remote Access - Scroll down the page and select the highlighted link as shown below - In the following screen enter your QMU credentials Note: just your student username, NOT the full email address
- Once through to the next page, select the small screen with QM Desktop above it and then select open on the bar at the bottom of the screen - This will launch the citrix receiver and take you to a remote session Possible Errors On windows devices there can be an extra issue with the Ica file. To resolve this please follow the below steps:- - Select start and go to settings - Select the apps icon and go to default apps tab - Scroll to the bottom and select choose default applications by file type - Scroll down to.ica file extension - Change the default to Citrix Connection manager NB: - If no option for Citrix connection manager is available, make sure you have the latest version Citrix receiver installed.

Apple MAC Computers To set up your device to be able to remote access onto your QMU account you will need to install the application Citrix Receiver This can be done by:- - Go to http://receiver.citrix.com. - Click on the blue Download Receiver for Mac button. - After clicking the blue button, you will be taken to a new page. Scroll to the bottom and click on Download file to download the CitrixReceiver.dmg file, which is the Citrix Receiver setup program for Mac OS X.
- After downloading the CitrixReceiver.dmg, launch the setup program and choose Install Citrix Receiver. - You will be taken through a series of steps standard with the installation of any typical application on a Mac OS X. Choose to Continue through the sections to install the Citrix Receiver.
- After the installation step is complete, you will be prompted to Add Account. This step is unnecessary, as the Citrix Receiver has already been installed by this point. Leave the Add Account box unchecked and just click Continue. - Click Close to complete the Citrix Receiver Installation Once you have the Citrix receiver installed, you can no access the remote desktop. Possible Errors When MAC s do updates, they can sometimes set the plug-in settings for Citrix back to default, which will stop you from connecting to a remote session If this happens what to do is:- -open safari -click on safari in the top menu bar -go to preferences -select the websites tab -select citrix receiver -set options access.qmu.ac.uk to On -if set to 'ask' change to 'on' and this should get remote access working again. NB: with Mac devices there can be an extra issue with the Ica file. To resolve this please follow the below steps;
1. Open the Settings menu and go to System > Default apps. 2. Select "Choose default apps by file type". Find the file type.ica, click the current default app, and choose Citrix receiver as the new default. 3. Save any settings and close. The next time you try and run remote access the ICA will be opened correctly and allow access.
