Polycom RelPresence Medi Editor Overview The following is Quick Strt for Polycom RelPresence Medi Editor softwre (herein Medi Editor ). This document will guide you through instlltion of Medi Editor nd using Medi Editor to: Crete presenttion using locl medi file (found on your desktop, network drive, or removle medi) Pulish presenttion to your desktop. The Medi Editor workflow is comprised of five esy steps: 1 Selecting Medi: Medi Editor supports most populr medi formts, including WMV, ISMV, MPEG-1,MPEG-4 (k H.264), Flsh (flv or swf), MP3,.wv nd vi. c You cn import udio/video files using the Windows OS file explorer like ny Windows ppliction You cn lso cpture video udio/video thru comptile Windows device, such s ViewCst Osprey video cpture crd nd use Medi Editor to crete presenttion tht you cn pulish for use on demnd. For purposes of this Quick Strt Guide, we will focus on creting presenttion from pre-recorded medi file. 2 Selecting the Presenttion Interfce: Medi Editor includes (2) defult Presenttion Interfces (k skins) tht cn e esily customized with your orgniztions logo, colors, etc. After selecting nd importing the medi file, you use the skins pge to select nd customize the presenttion interfce. Since skins re stndrds-sed, you cn esily crete your own using virtully ny third prty grphics progrm. 3 Synchronizing Assets: One of Medi Editor s most powerful cpilities is the ility to synchronize vriety of ssets to the medi file s timeline. c This is done on the Sync pge of the Medi Editor UI. Assets tht cn e synchronized include jpegs, gifs, Microsoft PowerPoint presenttions (note PowerPoint must e instlled on the Windows PC long with Medi Editor), Flsh nimtion or video files, nd we-pge URLs When creting syncs, Medi Editor cn lso utomticlly crete ookmrk (like chptermrk) tht will enle the udience to jump to specific point in the presenttion. d Ech Presenttion Interfce hs severl different identified regions, nd Medi Editor enles certin synchronized ssets to e trgeted to certin interfce regions (this is considered n dvnced cpility nd not covered in this Quick Strt Guide). 4 Previewing the Presenttion: After you hve creted presenttion (with synchronized ssets, customized interfce, etc), you use the preview fetures to wtch the presenttion directly within Medi Editor. You cn preview your synchronized ssets, nd even undock the preview frme to resize nd move it round your desktop. If you need to mke chnge, simply drg the sset tgs to different loctions on the time r, delete tgs, or dd new tgs, uplod new imges, chnge the synchroniztion timing, etc 5 Pulishing A Presenttion: Once you re hppy with your presenttion, you cn pulish it loclly to your desktop, to Polycom RelPresence Medi Mnger, or to seperte we nd streming servers ll utomticlly. For the purposes of this Quick Strt, we will focus on pulishing the presenttion loclly to your desktop. This Quick Strt is not complete mnul, nd it does not ddress mny Medi Editor fetures tht you my find useful. For comprehensive instructions tht will enle you to get the most out of your Polycom RelPresence Medi Editor, plese see the Polycom RelPresence Medi Editor User Gudie (Polycom prt # 3725-75203-001A). Instlling P o l y c o m RelPresence Medi Editor Notes/Prerequisites One licensed copy of Polycom RelPresence Medi Editor is included (nd pre-instlled) with every Polycom RelPresence Cpture Sttion. If you wish to move this copy to different Windows PC, plese contct Polycom Support for ssistnce. Polycom RelPresence Medi Editor cn e instlled on Windows XP or Windows 7. Polycom recommends Windows 7. Polycom RelPresence Medi Editor requires vlid license key to operte. If you don t hve key, plese contct your Polycom Sles or Support representtive for ssistnce. 2 Polycom, Inc.
Instlltion of Microsoft Expression Encoder Medi Editor utilizes the encoding engine provided y the Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Pro which cn e downloded directly from Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/encoder4_o verview.spx If you pln to work exclusively with Windows Medi or.avi files, there is no need to purchse the Expression Encoder Pro upgrde, s Medi Editor uses functionlity provided y the free version. If you pln to work with H.264 encoded files, you will need to either: Purchse the Pro version of Expression Encoder to unlock H.264 cpilities. If you pln to work with the ios nd Smooth Streming cpilities of the Polycom RelPresence Cpture Sttion, you will need to purchse Option Key from Polycom to unlock this cpility in Medi Editor. This option key will include license for the Pro version of Expression Encoder. Downlod nd instll the Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Pro ppliction ccording to the instructions provided. Instlltion of Medi Editor 1 The Medi Editor instller is provided s Windows Instller file s setup.exe. If you received the instller in.zip file, plese extrct the instller from the.zip efore running the instller. 2 Click Setup (setup.exe). 3 When the Welcome screen ppers, click Next. 4 On the Destintion Loction screen, either select loction for Medi Editor using the Browse utton or use the defult setting nd click Next. 5 On the Strt Instlltion screen, click Next. Medi Editor will egin instlling. 6 As soon s Medi Editor is done instlling, the Successful Instlltion screen will pper. Click Finish. Polycom, Inc. 3
Creting A Presenttion Lunching Medi Editor 1 To lunch Medi Editor, first click the desktop icon or open it from the Progrms/Polycom menu. 2 If Medi Editor is eing lunched for the first time, the Polycom end-user license greement will pper. Click I Agree. 3 After clicking I Agree, the product ctivtion pge will pper. Enter the license key, nd click Register Online. The softwre will contct the Polycom Activtion Server on port 443 (https) to verify your license key. If https Internet ccess is not ville from the server, you will hve to do mnul license ctivtion vi Polycom Support. Cll 1-888-248-4143 nd open ticket to go through the V2C/C2V License Procedure for Polycom RelPresence Medi Mnger. 4 Immeditely fter clicking Register, the Select Medi Source screen will pper. Selecting Locl Medi File 1 On the Select Medi Source screen, select Locl Medi File nd click Next. Immeditely fter clicking Next, the Browse screen will pper. 2 On the Browse screen, click Browse. In the Browse window, select medi file nd click OK 3 After clicking OK, the Locl Medi file will pper in the File field. If this is the medi file tht you wnt to incorporte into your presenttion, click Begin. 4 The min Medi Editor window will pper. The locl medi file will egin plying in the udio/video window in the upper left-hnd corner of Medi Editor. Puse the medi file. Selecting n Interfce You cn select either of the defult interfces (or skins ) for the presenttion (this is wht end users will interct with). Only interfces/skins tht re comptile with the selected medi formt will e ville. 1 By defult the Skins pge should e displyed. If it is not displyed, click the Skins t. 2 On the Skins pge, select skin y clicking on one of the skin thumnils displyed in the Skin Preview window. You cn preview skin y doule-clicking on skin in the Skin Preview window. 3 After selecting skin, thumnil of the interfce will pper directly eneth the medi plyer. 4 After selecting skin, click the Custom t nd the Custom pge will pper. The fields displyed on the Custom pge re used to customize the text tht is displyed in the interfce/skin, for exmple, Presenter Nme nd Dte. Synchronizing Imges 1 Click Sync nd the Sync pge will pper. The sync pge contins the uttons /Ts used to uplod nd sync imges, PPTs, PDFs, Flsh files, URLs, nd crete ookmrks. (If you re not interested in synchronizing imges, skip to Synchronizing URLs on pge 5). 2 Click the Imges t. Polycom, Inc. 5
3 On the Imges screen, there re four import uttons tht re used to import imges, PowerPoint slides, PDF documents, nd Flsh files. Click on the utton tht indictes the type of sset tht you wnt to import. Once you hve imported n sset, such s n imge, it will pper in the Preview window. You cn preview thumnils or the imges or zoom in on specific imge. You cn import s mny times nd s mny file types s you wnt. 4 You cn synchronize ssets working from the timeline (if you lredy know the timing) or y wtching the medi file nd creting syncs s the medi file plys. Click PLAY on the medi plyer As soon s the medi strts plying, highlight the first imge tht you wnt to synchronize. If you select the uto-generte field, ookmrk will e utomticlly generted every time you synchronize n imge. Creting custom chpters is ddressed in Synchronizing Bookmrks on pge 6. 5 When you wnt to synchronize the imge, click Sync. A hsh-mrk will pper on the Time Br indicting tht you hve synchronized n imge nd the time t which it ws synchronized. If you hve the timings for the synchronized ssets, you do not hve to wtch the medi to synchronize. You cn highlight the imge, enter the time in the TimeBr Timer, nd click Sync. 6 Use this process to synchronize s mny imges s desired. Synchronizing URLs 1 Click the URLs t. 2 To synchronize URL, first test the URL in your we rowser, then copy the desired URL in the URL field. 3 If you would like to prepre severl URLs efore synchronizing, click Add to List nd enter dditionl URLs in the URL field 6 Polycom, Inc.
4 You cn synchronize URLs working from the timeline (if you lredy know the timing) or y wtching the medi file nd creting syncs s the medi file plys. 5 With the medi plying, highlight the first URL tht you wnt to synchronize. 6 When you wnt to synchronize the URL, click Sync. An ornge hsh-mrk will pper on the Time Br indicting tht you hve synchronized URL nd the time t which it ws synchronized. 7 Use this process to synchronize s mny URLs s desired. Synchronizing Bookmrks 1 Click the Bookmrks t. 2 To synchronize Bookmrk, first enter the ookmrk title in the Bookmrk Title field. 3 You cn synchronize Bookmrks working from the timeline (if you lredy know the timing) or y wtching the medi file nd creting syncs s the medi file plys. 4 When you wnt to synchronize the Bookmrk, click Sync. A red hsh-mrk will pper on the Time Br indicting tht you hve synchronized n imge nd the time t which it ws synchronized. 5 Use this process to synchronize s mny ookmrks s desired. Once you hve synchronized ll of the desired ssets, click Preview. Immeditely fter clicking Preview, the Preview pge will pper. Previewing A Presenttion After synchronizing ssets round your medi file, you my wnt to preview the presenttion to ensure tht you hve synchronized ll of the necessry ssets nd tht the synchroniztion timings re ccurte. The preview fetures descried elow will enle you to preview nd edit the presenttion. 1 After synchronizing presenttion, click Preview. 2 On the Preview pge, use the uttons locted directly ove the Preview window to select the preview lyout. In the sme row of uttons is the Un-Dock utton. The Un-Dock utton is used to relese the view windows from Medi Editor so tht they cn e reshped nd plced nywhere on the desktop. Polycom, Inc. 7
3 After you hve selected view, click Ply directly elow the medi plyer. As soon s the medi strts plying, the timer will strt moving. As soon s the timer reches synchronized sset, tht sset will pper in the preview frme. 4 As you re previewing presenttion, you cn edit sset timings nd delete synchronized ssets. Deleting Assets: Right-click on the sset hsh-mrk on the timeline nd click Delete. Edit Asset Timings: Click on the sset hsh-mrk nd drg it to the correct time on the timeline. If you hve utomticlly generted chpters, these chpter my e locked to synchronized imges. If you wnt to move or delete one without moving or deleting the other, right-click on the imge nd click Unlock. Pulishing A Presenttion Loclly 1 After previewing nd editing presenttion, click Pulish. Immeditely fter clicking Pulish, the Pulish pge will pper. 2 On the pulish pge, enter Project nme in the Project Folder field. 3 Next, under Pulishing Options, select Pulish Loclly. 4 Next, highlight the Resize Imges if you would like Medi Editor to resize the imges to fit the interfce specifictions. 5 Next, use the Conversion Formt fields to select whether imges will e converted to jpegs or gifs. If you select jpegs, you cn use the Imge Compression Qulity r to specify the imge conversion qulity. 6 After selecting n imge conversion formt, click Pulish. Immeditely fter clicking Pulish, presenttion content will e generted. 7 After Medi Editor hs completed generting the presenttion content, you cn view the finl presenttion y clicking Lunch Presenttion. Viewing the Loclly Stored Presenttion 1 Medi Editor utomticlly creted project directory contining the presenttion ssets. The project directory will e locted in the Medi Editor folder which, y defult, is locted in your progrm files (unless you chose to instll it elsewhere). 2 After the project directory hs een locted, doule-click on the project directory. 3 In the project directory, doule-click project/index.html. Immeditely fter clicking project/index.html, rowser will pper with one or more links. 8 Polycom, Inc.
