How to add content to your course To start adding content to your course, you need to turn the editing on the editable page of your course will display. and You can now choose between 2 ways of uploading content or creating activities, you can select to use the activity chooser or the drop down menu in the course settings by switching on or off the activity chooser. Activity Chooser Drop Down Menu Once your course is ready to edit you can start adding content. To add materials you can upload single files, drag and drop single files, create folders, upload zip folders, add videos and podcasts, also you can create books and pages and add interactive content.
You can add / reduce the number of topics in your course by clicking on the at the bottom of your course. tab Drag and Drop Files This functionality allows you to pull across files from your desktop straight over to Moodle. This can be done in almost all areas of Moodle but it does not work with Internet Explorer versions below 10. The drag and drop functionality works for uploading single files or for adding files to a folder.
Files You can add a single file to your course sections by clicking on add a resource and selecting a file from the drop down menu or from the activity chooser. Best practice: For example if your students need to read a specific article before a lecture / tutorial, you might like to provide them with access to it by uploading a single file. You can manually upload a file by clicking on to the central box. or simply drag and drop the content To save your files click on The files will appear in the section you added them. To change the name on the file, click on the grey pen and the edit tab will display. Simply type the new name and press enter to save it.
Folders If you have a large set of documents to upload in one of your course sections you can upload those using folders. To add a folder to your course simply click on add a resource and select folder You can also add a zip file saved in your computer and unzip it once you have upload it using the folders tool, this might save you time uploading large numbers of files at once/ Best Practice: You might need to group certain documents / files together, for example you might want to put reading materials for a session into a single folder to facilitate the access to your students. You can manually add the files to the folder by clicking on dropping the files in the central box. or by dragging and To save your folder click on displayed as a tree. Pages Pages are mini webpages you can add to your course. Pages can contain text, links and audiovisual content. To add a page, just go to add a resource and click on add a page from the drop down menu. Best practice: You might like to provide your students with a list of useful websites. The pages allow you to add or delete items in a simple way. To start, name your page and add a short description To add content to your page you can just write the text you want or copy and paste it from a word document by clicking on, also, you can add images by clicking on the image icon or add links to external content by clicking on.
Using videos in your course You can play videos from Youtube, Vimeo, Bloomsbury Media Cloud or any other video streaming service by clicking on the HTLM icon the HTML editor. and pasting the embedding code into Best Practice: You might like to link or embed videos in your course as those are an effective source of teaching materials which provides good information and examples. There are 2 ways to play videos in your course, you can link a video using the URL tool or you can embed videos as a label, inside a topic or by embedding them in a page. Option 1: To link a video, simply go to the video streaming service and copy the link on the top of the page, once you have copied it, create a URL in your course and paste the link there Option 2To embed a youtube video in your course, go to go to www.youtube.com, and select the video you want to upload to your course Below the video you will find a set of tabs with the description of the video and the share tools. Click on the share tab and a set of options will display, click on the embed menu to obtain the code to add the video to your course. Once you click on the embed tab, the HTML code will display. Copy the code which will be pasted in your HTML editor in your course.
To add the video to your course, create a page in the area you want to add the video, give it a name and a description (see adding pages in above) and using the page content editor, go to the HTML tab to display the HTML editor Once you click on the HTML editor a new page will appear, copy the code and paste it into the HTML editor and click update to save your video The video will display in the content area of your page. To display the video, click on watch it directly inside the page. and your students will be able to
URL resources A URL is a link on the internet to a website or online file. To add a URL resource to your course Turn editing on and click 'Add an activity or resource' and select URL in the activity chooser Best practice: You can single URLs that are core information for your students and you might like them to access it constantly during your course. The "Adding a new URL" screen will ask for a link name and a description. Enter the URL in the external URL field If you want to add content from Youtube or Wikimedia, click on choose a link new tab will display and will enable you to search for external content.. A You can choose the following display options Automatic - Make the best guess at what should happen (probably what is wanted 99% of the time). Embed - Show the Moodle page with heading, blocks and footer. Show the title/description of the item and display the file directly in the page as well Open - No Moodle heading, blocks, footer or description - just show the file in the web browser (e.g. shows image, PDF, flash animation, taking up the whole browser window) In pop-up - Same as 'Open', but opens a new browser window to show this file (without the Moodle heading, blocks, etc) - this browser window also does not have all the menus and address bar in it.
