ipad Setup and Use
Important! ipads are to remain in the protective cases at all times. Only computer techs are permitted to remove the case. You receive back whatever you turned in during ipad collection, including cables, chargers, cover, and case. Lost, stolen, or pet damaged cables and chargers are not replaced by the school district. Take them home and leave them in a safe place away from danger. If your ipad is not working as described in the following slides, see your building tech for help.

Setting up Google Apps Many of the Google Apps will use your @shaler.us e-mail account to communicate. You will set this up for the first time by doing the following steps. If it prompts to go to settings for your e-mail, cancel this for now. We need to update your password first. Open Safari app Type in gmail.com For the username use the same thing you use to log onto a computer and add @shaler.us to the end of it smithj22@shaler.us For the first password use Abcd1234 Accept the agreement and update your password
Google E-Mail Your Google E-Mail address is used for communication you and your teachers. Your @shaler.us e- mail account cannot receive e-mails from anyone outside of the district. These e-mail accounts are archived and held to CIPA and COPA standards. Once your password has been updated tap on the mail icon near the bottom. Now tap on settings and update with your new password. If settings does not appear, a tech can help set this up during school throughout this week.
Once downloaded, tap on the Manager app that looks like sound waves and accept/allow all questions and conditions. This is important for using Find My ipad and installing all apps properly. If this app does not download within a few minutes, this setup can be done later
If the Manager app does not recognize your or asks you to login, don t panic. There are a lot of people trying to activate devices at the same time. Some delay is to be expected. Try again later on that day or even the next day. If the Manager app still does not recognize you within two days then see the school tech for help.

Google Setup Once one of the Google apps has downloaded, you can open it and log into your @shaler.us Google account. Use your ID cards that were filled out at the end of last year if you forget your password/login information One Google app will share login information with all of the others.
What s New? This year you may notice that you do not have access to the app store. All app installations must be requested by your teacher and done through the tech department. Apps are no longer user based but rather device based, this means you can no longer used the apps assigned to you on other (personal) devices. Non-academic games are no longer acceptable apps on School District ipads and will not be installed.
Feel free to move apps and group them in any folders you wish. When finished, your lock screen should look similar to this one. This is to help identify lost ipads if/when they are found without ID stickers on the case.
