How to use AirPlay Page 6 A guide for all Marantz AirPlay models AirPlay is Apple technology licensed to Marantz to use in selected AV components. AirPlay can be used from any iphone *, ipod Touch*, ipad, or computer with itunes installed. Make sure you are running the latest ios in all devices and computers. *Note: The 3G iphone is not compatible with AirPlay, nor is the 1st generation ipod Touch. Marantz components with AirPlay installed from the factory: NR1602, SR5006, SR6006. Marantz components with the ability to have AirPlay added as a free upgrade: SR7005, AV7005, NA7004, CR603. Many of these units are being shipped with AirPlay already installed by QualiFi. Units with AirPlay already upgraded will have a sticker on the carton identifying the upgrade and UPGRADE will appear in the display when powered on. Ethernet cable required: The Marantz AirPlay component must be hard-wired to the network, either directly to a router with an ethernet cable, or wirelessly using a Wi Fi Bridge or Wireless Access Point that is in turn hard-wired to the Ethernet port of the Marantz component. No Wi Fi? No Problem: itunes in a computer can be used as a source for AirPlay music too, hard-wired into the network with the Marantz component (see page 7). In this case, a Wi Fi network is not required to use AirPlay. Want to use a portable idevice with AirPlay? If an iphone, ipod Touch, ipad (or a wireless computer) will be used as the source for AirPlay music, a Wi Fi network MUST be part of the overall hard-wired network which includes the Marantz component. AirPlay is a function which is hidden or dormant in Apple devices until an audio component with the ability to receive AirPlay music is detected by the Apple device as part of a network. Checklist for AirPlay success MARANTZ Networked: Is your Marantz component with AirPlay on your network? (test it with internet radio). COMPUTER as the AirPlay source: Are you using your computer with itunes as your source for AirPlay music? Is that computer on the network (either hard-wired or wireless) which also has the Marantz unit? idevice as AirPlay source: Using your portable idevice as the source for your AirPlay music? Is it attached to your wireless network which can see your Marantz unit? RESTART your Network: If you have just added AirPlay as an upgrade, or have just purchased a product with AirPlay pre-installed and you are connecting it to your network for the first time, you may need to restart ALL DEVICES in your network. This includes restarting: Computer, Router/Modem/Wi Fi units, Marantz unit and all your portable idevices. NETWORK STANDBY ON : Your Apple device can automatically power-on the Marantz unit, switch the input to NETWORK, and start playing. You MUST set the NETWORK STANDYBY to ON in the Marantz unit s MENU system for this feature to work. Otherwise, the Marantz unit must already be powered-on for AirPlay to work. SR7005 menu: Manual setup > Network settings > Other > Network standby > ON Using your iphone, ipod Touch or ipad as the AirPlay source Open your Music App in your Apple portable device. Choose a song and press play the AirPlay icon (or button) should be showing when you are in cover art mode (the icon will be in different locations on different devices see iphone and ipad screenshots below). Click on the AirPlay button and select the Marantz unit (example shown in ipad below). The Marantz unit will power on and start playing (with Network standby ON). If you leave your Wi Fi network with your idevice, AirPlay will cease and the AirPlay icon / button will no longer appear in your idevice until you return to your Wi Fi network. When finished using AirPlay, we suggest disconnecting from AirPlay by pressing the AirPlay icon and selecting your idevice as the playback unit.
