DIGITAL MOTION PICTURES FOR BEGINNERS MANUAL The first item we have to address is: What are we trying to show The second item is how are we going to display this show Motion Picture format Content of Clips or short motion pictures Order of clips We need a Story Board or Outline (ref: Power Point Show on Motion Pictures) Create a Story Board or Outline of Your Show) Be original and create you own show Feel free to use my outline in the PowerPoint show Introductory. Introductory. Good Morning Class Today is Presidents Day This is Millard Fillmore, the 13 th President of the United States Who can tell me what happened during his presidency Background voices Please, Oh Please Digital Camera Settings Using the button on the back of the camera, press until you see CT (continuous) in the little LCD window Immediately press the top button on the camera to accept (he/she who hesitates is lost setting will not take if delayed) Computer Folder Settings Open Windows Explorer icon on START - Programs Open S: Drive, the Thawed Folder RIGHT Click on an empty space in the folder and choose NEW FOLDER Immediately type in your name. When you save your clips remember to do a SAVE AS and check the SAVE IN box at the top. It MUST say your name (the folder name) and that it is in Thaw space (S:) At home you would want to put it in the C: My Documents/Pictures folder as you are probably not using a protective program such as our Deep Freeze 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 3

The Video Wizard A Wizard program, in general, is a menu driven program that walks the user though the necessary steps, with options, to create an item. The Video Wizard is designed to take you through the necessary steps to create a motion picture from short video clips. First we will take a video tour of the Ulead Tutorial Insert the Ulead VideoStudio 3.0 SE CD into the CD drive When the Main Menu appears, choose the TUTORIAL On the Tutorial Screen click on the bottom center icon and view the tutorial on the Video Wizard You will start by clicking on the top left button, START 1 As each short video ends go to the next one until you finish with Play 6. Starting the Video Wizard Click on START, PROGRAMS, ULEAD VIDEOSTUDIO 3 SE, then ULEAD VIDEO WIZARD Click on START 1. Type in a name for your show Push the BROWSE button and locate Drive S: Locate your folder S:\your name and open it 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 5

Enter a name for this clip Set Image Size to VGA Image Format should be RGB 24 (bit graphics mode) Click the OK button Now choose the Video Source Button Click on the Advanced Tab at the top Choose High Speed Also Choose either Fast Colour OR High Quality Colour Make sure the Anti- Speckle box is checked Now click on the GET VIDEO button on the left 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 6

Getting Live Video Pictures In the GET VIDEO screen: Locate the BEGIN Button With ONE hand aim the camera at the subject ready to photograph With the OTHER hand click the mouse on the BEGIN button and don t move the mouse as the button will turn into an STOP button to stop taking the movie. Note: On the right side of the screen are the HELP instructions! When all else fails Now Click on the ARRANGE 3. Button on the left 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 7

Arranging Your Clips Adding Files In the ARRANGE screen: Note your new clip Import more clips from files by clicking on the ADD CLIPS button on the bottom right In the top most box select drive D: Open the folder called DVC Video Select each of the clips on your CD EXCEPT the Second one (it is not acceptable in this program). By DOUBLE clicking the files will be added to your program 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 8

Close the Open Video File dialog box (click on X) Arranging Your Slides In the Video Wizard Arrange screen you can rearrange the order of your show by simple drag and drop Simply click on the slide you want to move Hold the button down while dragging the large vertical line between the two slides you wish to place it Again, when all else fails eyes right! 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 9

Trimming Ends From Your Clips You can trim any unwanted ends off your clips by: Highlight the clip to be added in the window Click on the TRIM button in the bottom left of screen A new window appears with the clip, a slide to move action, and START / END trim buttons WARNING: Start TRIM where you want to KEEP the video. End TRIM where the end of the KEPT video is. Yes, this is backwards from what you might think! This trim removes only the unwanted front and back of clips. Only one trimming is permitted in this old, limited version Close the Trim Dialog box (X in upper right) 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 10

Adding Effects: Transitions between Slides Inserting Audio Files Creating Titles Choose the ADD EFFECT 4. Button on the left Click on the Transition effect: down arrow on right of box Choose Dissolve NOTE: The Wizard allows only one choice for all clips. The Full Program allows a different one to be inserted between each slide. 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 11

To add audio files, click on the BROWSE Button and select audio directory, then audio file (.WAV) To create an opening Title Page, type in your information (remember ctrl + M will give you a new line) in the Title: Box Click on the FONT button to change font characteristics 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 12

Creating Your Movie Up until now you have been creating Video Studio Project files (*.VSP). It is now necessary to render this temporary file into an Audio Visual Interleave file (*.AVI Microsoft). AVI files can handle 16.7M colors and are easily transferred to other programs and devices. Click on the CREATE 5. Button on the left of the Video Wizard screen Choose the Create Video File Button on the bottom Watch the wheel go around When the wheel gets to 100% you should be in the PLAY screen, if not click on PLAY on the Left 4/11/2002 4:27 PM 13
