New School Technology Information April 27, 2006 The following information is presented as a reference point for technology deployed in new GCPS schools. Decisions about technology deployment are made throughout the year, and technology varies as new technologies are produced by industries, so this document is meant as a guideline only. The latest version of this document may be obtained from the Information Management Division (IMD). Special Education software and hardware needs are supported by Individual Education Plans, which are maintained by the local school and the Department of Special Education. Technology considerations and adaptations for special education students will be made through the Division of Information Management and the Department of Special Education. Elementary Technology: School Base of 1,102 Students Administrative Technology Administrative technology includes both desktop machines and data/server hardware. 1 Administrative workstation with local laser printer per 100 students 5 Network laser printers to be placed in teacher workrooms 1 Network core switch for connection to GCPS WAN and edge switching as necessary for desktop connectivity 1 SASI server 1 Administrative / Courseware server Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems to support server components. 1 High-speed network printer for secure printing Copiers and/or Multi Function devices Tape Backup Library Classroom Technology Classroom technology supports both classroom administration as well as technologyenabled instruction. Network drops to system standards are provided in locations determined by the school blueprints after receiving input from previously designed schools. 1 Classroom workstation per classroom 1 Printer per classroom 4 Network connections per classroom Electrical outlets for computers 1 Display technology per classroom television, projection panel or projection device as provided by the Department of Business Services; or S- video out from teacher s laptop workstation. Interdisciplinary and Primary Language Lab Technology New GCPS elementary schools should have two labs, one each for interdisciplinary instruction and primary language instruction. The following specifications are for the Interdisciplinary and Computer Science Exploratory Labs ONLY.
