2 Learner s Outcomes Participants will learn how to: clean the panel use the panel s control panel. open the panel s built-in floating tools (Generation 3 panels ONLY). adjust the SM (Sound Mode) and PM (Presentation Mode) settings. connect a document camera and use from Applications and from within XPress. open documents from an USB drive as part of your lesson plan or as a student station. use the pre-installed applications on the panel. The focus will be on XPress where you can create a workbook to be utilized to present your lesson within your classroom. use IPTV within your classroom 2

6 Sound Mode vs. Presentation Mode The panel is equipped with a Mic Sound Mode that is designed to help prevent users from experiencing sound feedback when using a microphone with the panel. Sound Mode limits the volume to 50%. Point the remote at the LED indicator light in the lower left-hand side of the panel. To disable, using the Remote press the SM Button to Standard Sound Mode. 50% 100% 6

8 On-Screen Quick Annotation This allows you to draw over any screen image displayed on the screen. To activate the on-screen annotation, at the Home or Applications screen, swipe up using 2 fingers (or knuckles) from the bottom middle edge of the screen. A floating menu will open. Tap on the icon to open the floating window, then swipe up from the bottom middle edge of screen to reactive the menu. 8

11 Android Apps In Stand-Alone Mode Adobe Reader allows opening of PDF files. APK Installer Install Android apps, not used at this time. Globe Browser used to browse the Internet. Does not support FLASH. Calculator used to calculate numbers. Camera used in combination with the Document Camera. Can take video or photo. No built-in camera on the panel. Clock - used to set timer, alarm, or browser different time zones through-out the world. ES File Explorer where files are stored. Gallery storage location of screen captures on the panel. 11

12 Android Apps In Stand-Alone Mode Music used to play music. OfficeSuite used to open Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF document(s). Search search for a website. Prompts you to use the Globe or Squirrel Settings allows you to configure settings on the Recordex board/panel. Password required. Simplicity App Store run updates on apps currently installed and/or install Adobe reader Squirrel UC Browser HD used to browser the Internet. Does not support FLASH. USB Drive used to open/play audio, music, or videos. Cannot open other file types. XPress used to create a workbook and as a whiteboard (similar to ActivInspire flipchart, Smart notebook, etc.) Does not recognize inserting PDF files as an image or websites that support flash. 12

14 Simplicity App Store Simplicity App Store Used for updating and installing Recordex Approved Apps From the Home screen, click on the Applications shortcut. Click on the Simplicity App Store shortcut. If Adobe Reader is not installed, click the Install button on the right-hand side of the screen. It will run the install and a shortcut will be placed on the Applications screen. Also, note that if updates are available you have the ability to run the updates. 14

17 BCPS IPTV StreamVu Ed is a video distribution platform allowing the following: Schedule and record live broadcasts Create on-demand lessons using prerecorded/uploaded video Attach documents and external links to lessons Embed content in 3 rd party Learning Management Systems Manage/Record live channels Content can be available for both oncampus and off-campus distribution Hierarchy breakdown of IPTV structure: Subjects Broad subject such as Math, Literature, Science, etc. Courses Next level down such as Algebra 101, English Literature 101, Biology 101, etc. ONLYAdministrators can create Subjects/Courses Lessons Daily class activities within the Course. Access levels Everyone no login required Student/Teacher/Admin login required. 17

18 Create an IPTV Shortcut on the Application s Home Page Launch the Globe browser from the Applications page Insert the StreamVu URL in the Browser Bar, 2. Enter the school name you wish to access, Click Search. 3. Click on your School s name. 4. You can now navigate your school s StreamVu Ed page and access content. To Bookmark the Page for Ease of Use: 1. Open the page that you want to bookmark 2. Click the in the upper-right corner. 3. Edit the bookmark's details. a. You can change the title of the bookmark and choose where to save it to the Home screen. b. Click Addwhen you are satisfied with the bookmark

19 Recordex Software Install Codes & Distribution XPress -Network License ID = Install Method - LanDesk Portal 1. In the Search bar type Portal. 2. You should see the Recordex packages. 3. If you don t see the packages, click on the Refresh icon. 4. Click Launch. Versions will be installed. 5. After installation you should see the shortcuts on the desktop. 6. If you don t see the packages after refreshing, create a Remedy ticket with the I & T Service Desk including computer name. 19

20 Exercise 1 Open files in Stand-Alone Mode In this exercise, you re going to open up files from an USB drive connected to the panel. 1. Turn on the board by pressing the Power button on the panel s control panel. 2. Insert the USB drive into the USB port on the front of the panel. 3. Click on the Home button on the panel s control panel. 4. Click on the USB Drive shortcut on the panel s Home Screen. a. Open up a Picture, Song, or Video file from your USB drive. Notice that these are the only file types that can be opened from the USB drive shortcut. 5. Click on the Exit button (back-arrow) on the panel s control panel. 6. Click on the Applications shortcut on the Home Screen. 7. Use the two finger/knuckle swipe at the center of the board to open the built-in (floating) annotation tools. 8. Click on the OfficeSuite app shortcut. a. Open up a PowerPoint file and navigate through the document by swiping. b. Note that you can annotate from within the PowerPoint or by using the floating tools. c. Exit from the file by using the Exit button (back-arrow) from the panel s control panel. 9. Open one of the browser apps and enter an URL. 20

21 Exercise 2 Set a timer from the Application Suite In this exercise, you re going to set a timer to time a student annotating on a document presented on the Recordex panel. 1. Set the timer a. Click on the Clock app on the Applications screen. b. Click on the Timer shortcut on the clock s home screen. c. Click on the Add timer shortcut. d. Select the desired time. And, click the Start button. 2. Open up a.pdf file from the OfficeSuite app. Annotate by using the tool in Comments tool. a. Note: USB drive mustbe inserted into the USB port on the front of the panel. b. Click on the Three buttons shortcut in the upper right corner. c. From the pop-up menu, select Comment. d. From the pop-up menu, select Draw Free Form. e. Have the student annotate on the pdf presented on the panel. 3. Click on the Exit button (back-arrow) on the panel s control panel. 2c 2d 21

22 Exercise 3 Attach the Document Camera to the Panel In this exercise, you re going attach the Simplicity Document Camera to the Panel. 1. Turn on the board by pressing the Power button on the panel s control panel. 2. Insert the Document Camera into the panel s USB port. Face the document camera to the audience. 3. Click on the Home button on the panel s control panel. 4. Click on the Applications shortcut. a. Click on the Camera app shortcut. b. If the photo is upside down; on the document camera, click the Flip button. c. From the left side of the panel, slide open the Photo/Video option. Select Video and start recording. 5. Click the Exit button and return to the Application shortcuts. a. Click on the XPress app shortcut. b. Place a document under the document to show on the board. c. Click on the Camera tool. i. Draw a square. ii. iii. iv. Click on the Gear ( in the sub-set of Camera tools) if you need to flip/rotate. Annotate on the object with the Pen tool. Take a screenshot using the XPress camera tool on the Navigation Tool bar. 22

23 Exercise 4 Open XPress in Stand-Alone Mode In this exercise, you are going to work in XPress in Stand-Alone Mode. Note: please make sure a USB drive is in the panel s USB port. 1. Click on the Home button on the panel s control panel. 2. Click on the XPress shortcut on the panel s Home Screen. a. Click on the Symbols tool in the Annotation tool bar. b. With the Shapes option selected draw a triangle. i. Click on the Gears tool and change the color. ii. Draw a second shape. iii. Repeat steps i. and ii. And then insert a third shape and color. iv. Use the Pointer/Lasso tool to select the three shapes. v. Group the object together using the Pointer tool. vi. Click the Copy tool in the Pointer tools subsetof tools to copy the group. vii. Deselect all the tools and slide the screen to the right. viii. Paste the copied shapes using the Paste tool in the Annotation toolbar. 3. From the Navigation Tool Bar, add a second page to the workbook. a. Click on the Scene Color tool from the Presentation tool bar. Group/Un-Group Copy/Paste 23

24 i. Change the background color of the page. ii. Add lines or a graph with subdivisions. iii. Exit from the file by using the Exit tool from the panel s control panel. 4. Add a third page. a. Insert a video onto the page. b. Note: USB drive must be inserted into the board s port. 5. Using the Remote, check the SM/PM settings. a. Make sure that it is set to Standard mode. 6. Add a fourth page. a. Add a text box using the Text tool. b. Change the background color. c. Add a border with a contrasting color. 7. Add a fifth page and insert a web page. Exercise 4 Continued a. Note that you must show it full page and then insert the website URL. b. Click the Full Screen tool and enter the website URL. c. Click and hold until on a page 5 until it has a border and relocate it to page Save the workbook with the class date and training location (i.e., M-D-YY_Location). 24
