Accessing a student 1098-T is easy - simply go to tra.vangent.com, click on First Time Student and follow the instructions. 1. Open a web browser (such as Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc. note Internet Explorer Users must use Compatibility View ) and enter tra.vangent.com in the address box. You should see the following: 2. For Returning Users - If you have previously registered on this site, enter your User ID and Password or use the Forgot your Password or Forgot your User ID links to retrieve and reset your login credentials. For New Users Click the First Time Students button. Page 1 of 7
3. Enter the last 5 digits of your social security number (SSN) or your full Grizzly ID AND your First and Last name (as it appears in your student records) and Click Next. If there are no results: Verify that your name is the same as it is on your school records If you entered your social security number (SSN) try using your full Grizzly ID and vice versa. Schools may not report both of these to Vangent and you cannot use the number to find your record if the school did not provide it to Vangent. If records were found, you will get a registration page. Fill in the boxes and click Complete Registration to create your user account. (Note: Only one account per email address is allowed.) Page 2 of 7
4. You will receive the following success message. If you do not receive a success message, follow the error messages to correct your entries. 5. An e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address entered on the registration page. Go to your e-mail and retrieve the e-mail which contains your temporary password. The e-mail comes from TRA Customer Service. If you do not see the e-mail in your inbox, look in your SPAM and Junk Mail folders. Page 3 of 7
6. Click on the link provided in the e-mail. If clicking the link does not work, copy and paste it into your browser. Fill in the username you created and copy and paste or type the temporary password in the password box and click Next. 7. You will need to set up a challenge question by selecting one of the security questions to answer. Choose an answer only you will know and that you will remember. The answer is Case sensitive so take note of any capital letters you use. Remember the answer does not have to be the right answer, just one that you know. Click Submit. Page 4 of 7
8. Enter a new Password for yourself. You can use as Strong or Weak a password as you want, but remember, this is protecting access to your data. Passwords are case sensitive as well. Confirm your new password and then click Next. Hint: You can change your password by using the Forgot my Password link on the main login page. 9. When you click Next you should be automatically logged in. You will see all of the 1098-T records Vangent has on file for you. Page 5 of 7
10. If you access the record before your institution has instructed Vangent to print it, you will receive the following message to acknowledge that are retrieving your 1098-T electronically and you understand that you will not receive a paper copy in the mail. 11. Check the Acknowledge box and then click Save if you want to opt out of a paper copy of your 1098- T. If you do not want to opt out of a paper copy of your 1098-T click Cancel. You will have to wait until Oakland University 1098-T forms are printed to have access electronically without consenting to waiving printing. If you check the Acknowledge box and then click Save, your 1098-T should display as a PDF. If it does not, click on the view/print 1098- T PDF link again. 12. You can print or save the document from the PDF window. Remember, you can always return to this site for additional copies of your 1098-T. Page 6 of 7
