The Interface Separate tracks for video, audio, zooms, callouts, quizzes, markers, PIPs, etc. Time Track with Current Time Indicator Triangle just under button bar Simple buttons come in sets of two Scissors are for cutting The Interface Show Storyboard switches to other view Storyboard really only works for more than one clip Used for adding Transitions (see Adding Effects handout) The Interface: Timeline Close-up Green triangle is the Current Time Indicator or CTI AKA the Cursor, the Playhead, the Time Marker 3
The Interface: Timeline Close-up Two CTIs appear with click and drag or Shift click to select a section to cut Selecting a Timeline Segment Click Timeline Time Track where you want to set the re-record or cut-out In point Click (a second time) on the CTI and in one motion drag it to the desired Out point (it will turn red during the drag) Or hold down Shift and click the second point Selecting a Timeline Segment Where are the numbers? In the Timecode Window Right of the Play/Pause/Stop controls below the Preview Screen Left timecode set is CTI Right timecode set is length of whole movie 4
Edit Recording: Cuts To Cut unwanted sections Select area of the timeline Click one end, hold down Shift key, click other end Use timecode for accuracy Click scissors tool Save Project Be sure to use a meaningful name, and NO SPACES! Try it! Open sample movie from previous session Cut unwanted sections using Zoom In / Zoom Out / Scissors / Splitter Audio Enhancements even out volume levels remove background noise 5
Making a Voice Narration Add after original recording Select Voice Narration from Task List Voice Narration Settings Check Mute speakers Choose Audio 1 Choose Until end of selection Check Autoextend last video frame Voice Narration Technique Carefully select area to be recorded or rerecorded Use Magnifier and Timecode window Open Voice Narration Settings Click Record 6
Edit Recording: Volume & Noise Audio Enhancements even out volume levels remove noise Edit Recording Audio Enhancements Interface Experiment to see what works Audio is impacted by room shape, background machinery, sudden extraneous noises, etc. Each case different Try it! Record over a pre-recorded section or an area of silence Select area and choose track and length of record-over in the Voice Narration Wizard Notice no pops or clicks at insertion points when adding new audio You do need to keep the volume and room dimensions similar to match the sound color exactly 7
