Section 1: OS Requirements to run Meditech on Mac Products Safari is the suggested web browser for accessing Meditech on a Mac device. MOZILLA FIREFOX users may encounter issues where Meditech is prevented from opening. One of the following operating systems should be installed on your MAC in order to use Meditech functionality: OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) OSX 10.7 (Lion) OSX 10.8 (Moutain Lion). NOTE: OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) Newest release of OSX. Has not been tested for functionality with the information in this document. Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 2

Section 2: Tools needed to run Meditech on Mac Before users can access Meditech from their Mac device, they will have to first download a small file that installs the Citrix Metaframe client application. Once the Metaframe client is installed, the user will not have to download it again. The installer is available from the Caregroup home page by following these steps: Step 1 In the Safari browser navigate to http://portal.mah.harvard.edu/ In the upper left hand corner of the page, click on Web email text link. See Screen Shot below: Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 3

Step 6 Select DOWNLOAD NOW from the screen. Please choose RUN from the sections on the screen below: Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 8

You will then be prompted with the following screen asking where you would like to save the application. Change the WHERE drop down from documents to DESKTOP and click SAVE. Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 9

Once the file is 100% downloaded you will be able to access it on your desktop. To close the above screen click QUIT. You should now see one or both of the following icons on your desktop: Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 10

If you only see the the icon that looks like a sheet of paper, Double click on it and the second Black Icon should become available. Double click on the icon indicated with the arrow to begin the instal of the citrix client to your Mac. Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 11

Now enter your Mac specific password. This will be your personal password you would have set up when you first purchased this product. This is the password you use anytime you are installing applications on this Mac: Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 15

Once the Citrix Reciever is installed, any remaining Citrix installer software can be closed and discarded. The default installer location is inside a folder called Citrix ICA Client in your Applications folder. The Mac device will now be able to access Meditech once you run one of the available Meditech emulators. Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 16

Section 3: Opening a Meditech Session on your Mac When accessing Meditech from a Mac device, the user will have a choice of two emulators: Meditech 3.x (colors) and 4.x (gray). Functionality is the same in both. The installed Citrix ICA client runs an emulator which will open Meditech the same way on Mac devices as on a PC. We recommend that advanced clinical users employ the 4.x version. The quickest way to obtain an emulator is to navigate to http://portal.mah.harvard.edu/ and selection the Community Meditech link on the left hand side of the page, as seen below: Select from the first two choices on the page: MAH/BIDN Meditech 4.x (Gray) MAH/BIDN Meditech 3.x (Colors) Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 17

Clicking the link will download the selected emulator to your default download folder and the Citrix ICA client will open and run it automatically. The 3. Version is called MAH_Meditech3x_External.ica and the 4.x MAH_Meditech4x_External.ica Login is a two-step process. Once you have downloaded the version of Meditech you prefer to use. When the emulator runs, enter your ITS (OUTLOOK) username and password in the Windows Server 2003 screen as shown below. Make sure the LOG ON TO drop down menu says ITS. If it does not, use the drop down menu to select ITS from the list. Once the user has logged in with their ITS credentials, you will be brought to the Meditech main page for the second step. Sign onto Meditech as you would normally with your Meditech username and password. Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 18

Section 4: Options for adjusting function keys for MT In order to use Meditech on your Mac you will need to make some adjustments to the function key settings. Without making these changes, you will not be able to use important Meditech functions normally accessed from F1-F12. The default setup for these keys on a Mac control a number of Mac-specific functions such as multimedia sections, screen brightness, and volume adjustment, among others. In order to have these keys perform as regular function keys in Meditech, some changes will have to be made in your system preferences. First, select the System Preferences item from the Apple menu. Once the system preferences application has opened, the user will be brought to the screen you see below. Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 19

Select the Keyboard from the System Preferences screen. You should then see the screen below. Make sure that the Keyboard selection is highlighted. Place a Check in the box for the Use all F1, F2, etc. keys Once this is completed, click on the Keyboard Shortcuts tab as seen in the next screen shot. Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 20

Remove the checkmarks from the boxes on the left hand side of the screen for function buttons F6, F8 F12 to allow them to operate correctly in Meditech. You may have to click on a couple of the selections in the left hand side of the screen in order to find all fo the function buttons that need to be changed. In the example below click on the Mission Control selection and uncheck F10 and the F12 buttons. The following is an example of what your screen might then look like: Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 21

Now move to the Keyboard & Text selection on the left hand side of the screen. Remove the checkmarks from the boxes on the left hand side of the screen for function buttons F6, F8 F12 to allow them to operate correctly in Meditech. The following is an example of what your screen might then look like: Please reference example below: Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 22

Once all of the checkmarks have been removed from the boxes for Keys F6,F8 F12, the system preferences screen can be closed. The function keys will now function as they do in Meditech. F6 Move backward to previous field F8 Move to bottom of list F9 Look Up F10 Clear Field F11 Esc or screen Esc F12 File To return the function keys back to the default Mac preferences, simply uncheck the selection on the Keyboard page and select Restore Defaults on the Keyboard Shortcut page. This will add the checkmarks that were previously removed back to the function keys and restore default functions. ***Note*** The function keys can remain set to MEDITECH preferences but it must be noted that you will lose the standard Mac functionality while the keys are in the setting above. If it is desired to have the Mac functionality returned after the Meditech use is completed, the steps above must be repeated. Last updated: 11/19/13 Page 23
