Upgrading an EP/2 to a Lingo SE Introduction This document provides instructions for upgrading a Novar Controls Executive Processor (EP/2) to a Lingo SE. The process involves: Removing the EP/2 electronics assembly Removing the Ethernet Adapter. The adapter is not necessary because the Ethernet functions are built into the Lingo SE. Installing and wiring a Lingo SE auxiliary transition board if Module Communications Port C or D or INCOM is to be used. If installation of a Lingo SE auxiliary transition board is required, the installer must order a Lingo SE Upgrade Kit. It contains the board, terminal blocks, mounting screws, and installation instructions. Refer to Table 1 for ordering information. Installing the Lingo SE electronics assembly and connecting the Ethernet cable. Configuring the system. Removing the EP/2 Electronics Assembly and Ethernet Adapter The EP/2 s Ethernet adapter is located to the left of the transition board on the baseplate (Figure 1). The following procedure should be used to remove the adapter. 1 Turn off power to the EP/2. 2 Loosen the screws at the bottom of the EP/2 electronics assembly and remove the cover over the lower section of the controller. 3 Push the electronics assembly up and gently remove from the base. 4 Remove the three screws holding the Ethernet adapter in place. 5 Remove the adapter. Installing and Wiring a Lingo SE Auxiliary Transition Board If Module Communications Port C or D or INCOM is to be used, a Lingo SE auxiliary transition board must be installed and wired. If Module Communications Port C or D or INCOM will not be used, this step can be skipped move to the instructions for installing the Lingo SE electronics assembly. The following procedures can be used to install and wire a Lingo SE auxiliary transition board. Installing the Auxiliary Transition Board 1 Make sure that power to the EP/2 has been turned off. 2 Attach the terminal blocks supplied with the kit to the auxiliary transition board. 3 Position the auxiliary board over the location formerly occupied by the Ethernet adapter (to the left of the EP/2 transition board), aligning the screw holes on the board with the threaded standoffs on the EP/2 baseplate. 4 Insert and tighten the mounting screws provided with the upgrade kit. 2 DOC. #569066300 B 1/11/05
Wiring the Auxiliary Transition Board Refer to Figure 2, as necessary, when wiring the transition board. Lingo SE Auxiliary Transition Board Module Communications Connections Lingo SE can accept connections from 128 modules on the Novar Controls module network without using a Network Expander Module. (The maximum number of modules is subject to software limitations.) A maximum of 32 modules can be connected to each of the Module Communications A, B, C, and D terminals. Since the EP/2 s transition board does not provide for Module Communications C and D connections, the Lingo SE auxiliary transition board provides for them at Terminals 29 34. Modules with addresses from 00 to 63 must be connected to Module Communications A and B terminals. Modules with addresses from 64 to 127 must be connected to the C and D terminals. Twoconductor, shielded cable (Novar Controls WIR1010, Belden 8761, or equivalent) should be used to make the connections. The following procedure should be used to make the module communications connections. 1 Connect the black wire from the cable to the negative ( ) terminal. 2 Connect the shield wire to the SHIELD terminal. 3 Connect the white wire to the positive () terminal. The Novar Controls Network Expander Module is not used with the Lingo SE. INCOM Lingo SE supports up to four demand meters and sixteen additional electrical submeters. Sixteen meter data collectors can be configured, each with 48 data points. Belden network cable is recommended. The following procedure should be used to make connections to the INCOM Terminals (38 40) on the Lingo SE auxiliary transition board. 1 Connect the shield wire from the INCOM cable to Terminal 38 (INCOM ). 2 Connect the black wire from the INCOM cable to Terminal 39 (INCOM 1). 3 Connect the white wire from the INCOM cable to Terminal 40 (INCOM 2). Auxiliary Network Connections The Lingo SE auxiliary transition board provides Auxiliary Network connections at Terminals 35 (negative), 36 (), and 37 (positive). These are provided for future use and are not currently active. Outdoor Humidity Sensor The Lingo SE auxiliary transition board provides terminal connections for an outdoor humidity sensor (Terminals 41 [negative] and 42 [positive]). These are provided for future use and are not currently active. 4 DOC. #569066300 B 1/11/05
Installing the Lingo SE Electronics Assembly and Connecting the Ethernet Cable The following procedure should be used to install the Lingo SE electronics assembly. 1 Slide the Lingo SE electronics assembly over the lip at the top of the baseplate and down over the mounting posts. 2 Guide the DB37 connector on the Lingo SE assembly over the corresponding connector on the transition board (terminal strip). 3 Tighten the two retaining screws at the bottom of the Lingo SE to secure the assembly to the baseplate. 4 Connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack on the bottom left side of the electronics. 5. Restore power to the unit Configuring the System The following procedure should be used to reconfigure the EP/2 system to a Lingo SE system. 1 Log into ESS32 to access its ESS Menu Modes of Operation screen. 2 Select 4 (ESS Utilities) and press enter to access the ESS System Utilities screen. 3 Select 4 (System Diagnostics) and press enter to access the system Diagnostics screen. 4 Select 15 (Convert Unit Type)) and press enter. 5 Select the appropriate system number and press enter. 6 Select the executive module that is to be upgraded and press enter. 7 Select (highlight) Lingo SE from the popup menu and press enter. 8 Press enter repeatedly to back out of the system. 9 Perform a Version Download via CompactFlash or ESS32.
