IBM United States Hardware Announcement 112-071, dated April 24, 2012 IBM AIX Solution Editions for the Power 710, 720, 730, and 740 servers Table of contents 1 Overview 8 Publications 2 Key prerequisites 9 Technical information 2 Planned availability date 10 Terms and conditions 2 10 Pricing 8 Product number At a glance The IBM AIX Solution Editions are a new offering designed to help you take advantage of the combined experience and expertise of IBM and independent software vendors (ISVs) in building business value with your IT investments. When you purchase a new Power 710, 720, 730, or 740 system and make a qualifying new purchase of an eligible solution from a participating ISV, you can order the AIX Solution Edition to receive special pricing. With a qualified order for an AIX Standard Edition, you are eligible to receive half of the processor activations at no charge and reduced prices on the AIX Standard Edition licenses purchased for that system at the initial time of purchase. The AIX Solution Editions provide a minimum base configuration. Additional features and products can be added as required. Overview In this new smarter computing era for business and IT, forward-thinking companies consider more than server performance, existing skills, and ease of management when choosing a platform for new application workloads. They also evaluate how well the platform will help them achieve three core business objectives: delivering services faster, with higher quality and superior economics. By implementing smarter computing projects on an IBM Power Systems TM platform, businesses can outpace their competitors by delivering services faster. They can differentiate their offerings from the competition by delivering higher quality services. And they can turn operational cost into investment opportunity by delivering services with superior economics. The new AIX Solution Editions of the Power 710, 720, 730, and 740 provide an even more effective way of implementing a business and/or analytics solution from one of IBM's partnering ISVs. Deliver services faster A key measure of performance for IT today is around agility and the ability of IT to help the business gain a competitive edge and capitalize on emerging opportunities. Businesses need to simplify and integrate their IT infrastructure to deliver services faster. The IBM Power 710, 720, 730, and 740 systems are teamed with selected ISV solutions or Cognos BI analytics software to feature deep integration and optimization across AIX, databases, analytics, and middleware for simpler and more flexible service delivery. Choosing the model and modules that fit the business needs, optimized with PowerVM TM virtualization for rapid provisioning, clients can IBM United States Hardware Announcement 112-071 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 1

speed the delivery and deployment of the new solutions and processes to support their strategic business initiatives. Deliver services with higher quality Today's IT departments are also measured on their ability to provide an infrastructure that can address demands for increased application service levels while at the same time balancing rapid change with managing business risk. Businesses need an integrated approach to managing security, resiliency, business risk, and new business opportunities to deliver higher-quality services. The IBM Power 710, 720, 730, and 740 models provide a highly secure and resilient infrastructure foundation for smarter computing. Teamed with ISV solutions that have been specially selected for their integration with Power Systems and IBM middleware products, and with Cognos BI to provide rapid operational business analytics with reporting, dashboarding, scorecarding, and cubing capabilities, the AIX Solution Editions provide a very solid foundation for meeting business requirements now and in the future. Deliver services with superior economics IT performance today is also measured on its ability to maintain existing services and deliver services within tight budget constraints. In order to do more with less, businesses need to deliver services with superior economics. The AIX Solution Editions package all the value that the Power Express models, AIX operating system, and PowerVM have been known for, and offer the additional savings of half of the processor activations available at no charge, and reduced prices on AIX Standard Edition core licenses. Coupled with one of the specially selected ISV offerings or the Cognos BI offering, they can economically provide an outstanding business solution. Key prerequisites Power 710, Power 720, Power 730, or Power 740 model (8231-E1C, 8202-E4C, 8231-E2C, 8205-E6C) Minimum memory requirement (varies by model and processor) Minimum storage requirement to two hard disk drives, or two solid state drives, or two Fibre Channel controllers to attach to IBM Storwize V7000 New AIX Standard Edition or AIX Enterprise Edition licenses PowerVM Standard Edition or PowerVM Enterprise Edition Purchase of a new license of an eligible ISV solution Additional information and the list of eligible ISV solutions can be found at http://www.ibm.com/systems/power/hardware/solutioneditions/aix/index.html Planned availability date May 4, 2012 IBM Power 710 AIX Solution Edition If you order an IBM Power 710 AIX Solution Edition server as defined below, you can qualify for half of the initial configuration's processor core activations at no additional charges, and reduced charges for AIX Standard Edition license activations. solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent. The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The Electronic Service Agent TM is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
