3UHSDULQJ7R,QVWDOO7LYROL'HFLVLRQ6XSSRUW,QWURGXFWLRQ 2YHUYLHZ This chapter explains the requirements for installing the Tivoli Decision Support 2.1 components required for the following configurations: Stand-Alone Mode Network-Mode 7KH7LYROL'HFLVLRQ6XSSRUW &RPSRQHQWV 2YHUYLHZ Tivoli Decision Support includes several components. You must decide which components to install, based on how you plan to run the application. This section briefly describes these components, and tells you which components must be installed to run Tivoli Decision Support in stand-alone or network mode. 8QGHUVWDQGLQJ7LYROL'HFLVLRQ6XSSRUW VFRPSRQHQWV Depending on your configuration requirements, the Tivoli Decision Support 2.1 installation can be customized by including or excluding the following components using the Tivoli Decision Support set up program (setup.exe in the root folder of the Tivoli Decision Support 2.1 CD-ROM). Discovery Client The Discovery Client component includes the Discovery Interface, and provides all the functionality needed to open and work with views of data from your organization s enterprise databases. The Discovery Interface is installed and operated separately from the Discovery 2 7LYROL'HFLVLRQ6XSSRUW

7KH7LYROL'HFLVLRQ6XSSRUW&RPSRQHQWV Administrator. Cognos PowerPlay must be installed to view the reports that access multidimensional cubes. The Crystal Reports runtime is installed with the Discovery Interface and allows you to use the Crystal Reports reports that are included in the Tivoli discovery guides. Discovery Administrator The Discovery Administrator component lets you configure and perform administration functions for Tivoli Decision Support. For example, you can use the Discovery Administrator to import Discovery Guides, to set up and test data connections, to build cubes, and to set cube building schedules. The Discovery Administrator is installed and operated separately from the Discovery Interface. You must install the Cognos Transformer to build the multidimensional cubes used by the Tivoli discovery guides. Shared Data The Shared Data components, also called server components, include the models, queries, templates, and other data required to generate views for the Discovery Interface. 7LS Users must have full access to the shared data source. The first time you run the Tivoli Administrator, you may be prompted for the path to the shared data source folder. In stand-alone mode, this folder is the installation folder for the Shared Data component (by default, \Program Files\TDS 2.1). In network mode, this folder is the network drive you created to access the Shared Data components. Cognos PowerPlay PowerPlay is a third-party application that generates multidimensional cubes, and allows the Discovery Interface to view reports that use the multidimensional cube. Seagate Crystal Reports A Crystal Reports runtime is installed during the Tivoli Decision Support installation.,qvwdoodwlrq*xlgh 3

Tivoli Decision Support components are not shared with any other machines. The user of the stand-alone machine has access to the Discovery Interface and to the Discovery Administrator. See Installing Tivoli Decision Support in Stand-Alone Mode on page 15. When installing Tivoli Decision Support in stand-along mode, use the machine specifications provided in Discovery Administrator client requirements on page 11. If an end user runs Tivoli Decision Support in stand-alone mode, then the Discovery Administrator, the Discovery Interface, and the Shared Data must be installed on that machine, and serve only that machine, as shown in the following figure. 4 7LYROL'HFLVLRQ6XSSRUW

8QGHUVWDQGLQJ7LYROL'HFLVLRQ6XSSRUW V&RQILJXUDWLRQV 1HWZRUNPRGH In network mode, only the Discovery Client component, which includes PowerPlay, is installed on the client machine. It is recommended that you install the Shared Data components and the Discovery Administrator on separate machines. The user of a client machine can only use the Discovery Interface. See Installing Tivoli Decision Support in Network Mode on page 33. If the environment requires that Tivoli Decision Support (Discovery Interface client) be installed in network mode, then the Discovery Administrator should be installed on a separate machine (usually the system administrator s machine), and the Shared Data component should be installed on a file server as shown in the following figure:,qvwdoodwlrq*xlgh 5

3UHSDULQJ7R,QVWDOO7LYROL'HFLVLRQ6XSSRUW The Discovery Administrator must be installed on at least one machine when installing in network mode. 'HFLGLQJZKHWKHUWRLQVWDOO&U\VWDO5HSRUWV A Crystal Reports 6.0 runtime is installed during the Tivoli Decision Support 2.1installation. This is all that is required to view the reports provided in the Tivoli Decision Support discovery guides. If you want to modify the existing Crystal Reports reports, or create new reports in a Tivoli Decision Support discovery guide, you must use install Crystal Reports 6. This product is not included with the Tivoli Decision Support product. You can order this product from Tivoli Systems. 6 7LYROL'HFLVLRQ6XSSRUW
