Getting Started with Voicethread page 3 Getting Started With Voicethread 1. Opening the website Open your Internet browser and type in the web address http://voicethread.com 2. Creating an Account Before you can create a Voicethread you need to create an account. To do this you need to click on the Sign In icon in the top right corner of the screen. This brings up the log in screen. Underneath the password entry boxes is the option to register. Click on register to bring up the account creation screen.

Getting Started with Voicethread page 4 Enter the name that you wish to use with the account. Bear in mind when choosing your account name that this will be the name that other users see when they view the Voicethreads that you create. When entering your e-mail address use your school e-mail address as this will allow you to upgrade to a Pro account for free. When you have entered your details click register to complete your registration. 3. Logging In Once you have created your account you can use the e-mail address and password that you typed in at the sign-in screen to log in.

Getting Started with Voicethread page 5 Once you have logged in you will be taken to your homepage. On this screen you can see any Voicethreads that you have created as well the blue tutorial Voicethreads. 4. Browsing Other People s Voicethreads To browse Voicethreads that other people have created and made public click on the Browse tab in the top left corner of the screen. This opens up the galley as well as a search box. The gallery show the most popular Voicethreads and can be configured to show the

Getting Started with Voicethread page 6 most popular voice threads of all time or just for today, this week or this month, by clicking the text below the tab. To search for Voicethreads on a particular topic type keywords into the Browse box that has appeared in the Browse tab. All the existing Voicethreads that match your search criteria appear in the box below and you click on the Voicethreads to view them. 5. Viewing a Voicethread Once you have opened a Voicethread you can navigate through the thread using the tool bar at the bottom of the screen.

Creating a Voicethread Before creating a Voicethread you will need some resources to upload into Voicethread. The types of resource that can be uploaded into a voice thread are pictures, videos, Word files, PowerPoint files and PDF files. To create a new Voicethread click on the create tab at the top of the website. This opens the create tab. The first step is to upload the resources that you wish to include in your Voicethread. To do this click on the upload button.

Getting Started with Voicethread page 8 There is range of different ways you can select files to upload. The simplest though is have the file stored in your documents or a USB drive. Click on the From My Computer option to open the file the browser. Select and open the files that you wish to include in your Voicethread. You can upload as many documents as you wish.

Getting Started with Voicethread page 9 Click on comment allows you to add comments to the slides that you have added to your Voicethread. You can navigate between the slides on your Voicethread using the same navigation buttons used to browse an existing Voicethread. This allows you to record an audio comment This allows you to type a written comment. To record an audio comment you will need a microphone to record your voice. Clicking on the record button starts the recording. The toolbar changes and while you are recording you can use the colour wheel at the right side of the toolbar to change the colour of the pen. This pen can be used to highlight areas of the screen while you are talking.

Getting Started with Voicethread page 10 Clicking the type option brings up a dialogue box and you can type in a comment that will displayed alongside the picture. Once you have finished up loading comment clicking on the Share button allows you share the Voicethread with a wider audience. You can choose to whether to keep the Voicethread private, share it other named users or with everybody.
