This manual contains reference information about Triad s hardlines and lumber line of software products. The software described in this manual, as well as the manual itself, are furnished under the terms and conditions of a license agreement. SBC Conversion Guide This guide describes how to convert to Solutions by Computer (SBC) UniPRO release 8.0.0. The following sections are included in this chapter: V before the conversion V converting the /u1/sbc database V converting the /u1/fun database V after the conversion Before the Conversion To successfully install SBC UniPRO release 8.0.0, you must complete a few steps before starting the conversion. Required Materials Your Eagle system must be running software level 18.2532 or higher before converting to SBC UniPRO release 8.0.0. If you are not running level 18.2532or higher, contact Triad at 1(800)678-7423. If you are not sure which level of software your system is currently on, see the next section, Checking Your Current Level of Software. You need the following materials before converting to SBC UniPRO release 8.0.0: V the most recent backup tape(s) for your Eagle system V the next backup tape(s) for your Eagle system V the software tape for the level of software currently on your Eagle system (level 18.2532 or higher) V the SBC UniPRO release 8.0.0 tape V this document, Solutions By Computer Conversion Guide Important You must have all the required materials before you continue. If you don t have all the items, or don t know if you have all of them, contact Triad Systems at 1(800)678-7423. Before the Conversion 1

Checking Your Current Software Level To check your current level of software, do the following: 1. At the Main Menu, type PCO and press <Enter>. The Show PCO Level Screen displays. 2. Check the software level in the Programs field near the top of the screen. If you are not running level 18.2532 or higher, contact Triad at 1(800)678-7423 to order the latest Eagle system software. 3. Press <End> to exit the screen. When to Run the Conversion You should run the conversion: V after the Eagle system runs the end-of-day reports V when the Eagle system is quiet (that is, not being used for any other processing) with only the console terminal active There are two good times to run the conversion: V before starting business for the day V after closing your business for the day Converting to SBC UniPRO release 8.0.0 takes about one hour. If You Make a Mistake... The entries you type during the coversion must be accurate. The entries may be upper-case letters, lower-case letters, or numbers. After typing an entry, check it carefully before going to the next step in the procedure. If you do make a mistake, use the <Backspace> key to correct your mistake. Do not use the <Left arrow> key. If you have key cap stickers on your keyboard, the <Backspace> key is the <Clear Field> key. Remember, if you make a mistake, press <Backspace/Clear Field>. If you need to clear excess characters at the end of a field, use the <Spacebar> to remove excess characters to the right of the cursor. Before the Conversion 2

Checking the Database Before running the conversion, it is necessary to refresh all the rental related database files. Complete the refresh procedure one to three days prior to running the conversion. During the refresh procedure, the Triad system programs will be available. However, the rental program will not be available. Use the following procedure to refresh the database. 1. At the Main Menu, type OSPREY and press <Enter>. 2. At Password, type AVATAR and press <Enter>. 3. At Selection, type SBC and press <Enter>. The Solutions By Computer Utility Menu displays. If any errors dispaly during the refresh procedure, contact the SBC support desk at 1(800)950-2221. 4. At Selection, type SHUTCPRO and press <Enter>. 5. When the program finishes processing, return to the Solutions By Computer Utility Menu. 6. At Selection, type RDB and press <Enter>. 7. Type Y in answer to the questions about backup and shutcpro procedures. 8. At directory pathname, type /u1/sbc and press <Enter>. Be sure to type the number 1 and not the letter l. A screen displays with a list of files to refresh. 9. For each file, type Y and press <Enter>. Messages display indicating which file is being refreshed. Larger files will take longer to refresh. When the program is complete, the Solutions by Computer Utility Menu displays. 10. At Selection, type SSM and press <Enter>. 11. Press <Down Arrow> and highlight CounterPro manager. Press <F3/Run>. 12. Press <End> to return to the menu. The rental program is now available. Before the Conversion 3

Converting the /u1/sbc Database Solutions software includes two databases, /u1/sbc and /u1/fun. This section describes how to convert the /u1/sbc database to SBC UniPRO release 8.0.0. Before converting, be sure that you have read and completed all the steps in the previous section, Before the Conversion. The conversion requires a quiet system (no terminals active or reports running). All users must be off the system and all terminals quit. Tip Converting to SBC UniPRO release 8.0.0 takes about one hour. This includes converting both databases. You run the conversion from the console terminal. The console is the terminal that plugs directly into the back of the Eagle system CPU. If you are running applications at the console, exit to the Main Menu. At the Main Menu, type QUIT and press <Enter>. You are now at the console login prompt. Most of the entries you type for the conversion procedures are lowercase letters. Before starting the conversion, check that the Caps Lock light is not lit on your keyboard. If the light is on, press the <Caps Lock> key to turn it off. To convert to SBC UniPRO release 8.0.0, do the following: 1. At the console login prompt, type newsoft and press <Enter>. The Welcome to Newsoft! Screen displays. Read the information on this screen. 2. At the prompt, Do you wish to install a software package (y/n)?, type y and press <Enter>. If you need help with the conversion procedure during steps 1 through 5, contact the Triad Advice Line at 1(800)678-7423. Messages display about the system going down. 3. At the prompt, Insert the program tape into the tape drive and press <Enter>, insert your program tape and press <Enter>. After a few minutes, a message like the following displays: SOFTWARE: CPRO2.1 Press <ENTER> to exit or Make a selection; Press <ENTER> 4. Type CPRO and the version number and press <Enter>. Type the word, CPRO, in all uppercase letters, with no spaces between the word CPRO and the version number. For example, type CPRO2.1. Type the letters and numbers as they display on the screen, all uppercase. Messages then display about copying programs. After approximately seven minutes, the following message displays: COMMANDS: Quit Setup Press <ENTER> to exit or Make a selection; Press <ENTER> Converting the /u1/sbc Database 4

5. Type Setup and press <Enter>. Type the word exactly as it appears here (upper- and lowercase letters). Setup Newsoft UniPRO8.0.0 Messages display about setting up and asking you to wait. A prompt then displays at the bottom of the screen, Press <Enter> to run rdb. 6. Press <Enter>. 7. At the prompt, Have you run SHUTCPRO?, press <Enter> to accept the default of Y. At the prompt, Have you backed up your database?, press <Enter> to accept the default of Y. At the prompt, Database directory?, press <Enter> to accept the default of /u1/reports. Tip step instructs you to type u1, type the letter u and then the number 1. step instructs you to type lst, type the letter l, the letter s and the letter t. Refresh which /u1/reports files? Your cursor is blinking at the contract? field. Keep pressing <Enter> until your cursor is at the reports? field (near the bottom of the list, between the sessions? and opt3? fields). 8. At reports?, type y and press <Enter> through the last field on the screen. Setup Database Conversion UniPRO8.0.0 Step 1 Do you want to run seed (y/n)? Press <Enter> to move the cursor to the Cluster field. Verify that the Cluster field is filled in with 01. If this field is not set to 01, type 01. Do not change any of the other fields on the screen. 11. Press <F2/Help>. Seed <F2> Cluster Pathnames Again verify that the Cluster field is filled in with 01. If this field is not set to 01, type 01. 12. If your cursor is not in the Directories window, press <Enter>. The system fills in some of the fields on the screen. Your cursor is now blinking in the Directories window, at the 1: field. In the next steps you will enter values in the Directories, Literals Files, and File/Directory Association windows. Type the entry exactly as it appears in the procedure step, all lowercase letters. For example, the first entry is /u1/lst. 13. At 1:, type /u1/lst and press <Enter>. At 2:, type /u1/sbc and press <Enter>. At 3:, type /u1/reports and press <Enter>. At 4:, type /u1 and press <Enter>. Your cursor is now blinking at 5:. Keep pressing <Enter> until your cursor is blinking in the Literals Files window, at the 1: field. 14. In the Literals Files window at 1:, type lit_us and press <Enter>. Remember to use lowercase letters and to type the underscore (_) after the t and before the u. Keep pressing <Enter> until your cursor is in the File/Directory Association window at the invcc field. 15. In the first three columns of the File/Directory Association window, type 2 in each field. In the last column, do the following: At opt3:, type 2. At CardAuth:, type 5. At R<nnnn>:, type 3. At L<nn.nn.nn>:, type 4. At Work files:, type 1. At the prompt, Database directory?, type /u1/sbc and press <Enter>. Refresh which /u1/sbc files? Your cursor is blinking at the contract? field. 19. Keep pressing <Enter> until your cursor is at the opt3? field. At opt3?, type y and press <Enter>. Messages about the opt3 file being created briefly display on the screen and then the screen changes and the following now displays at the top of the screen: Tip step instructs you to type u1, type the letter u and then the number 1. step instructs you to type lst, type the letter l, the letter s and the letter t. At the prompt, Database Directory:, type /u1/sbc and press <Enter>. At the prompt, Are you sure? (y/n), type y and press <Enter>. Messages briefly display on the screen and then the screen changes and the following now displays at the top of the screen: Setup Database Conversion UniPRO8.0.0 Step 4 Do you want to run misc (y/n)? 22. At the prompt, type y and press <Enter>. Your cursor is at the Selection field. File names and numbers briefly display as the conversion program processes the data. When the process is complete, the cursor returns to the Selection field. 24. Press <Shift><F10/Invoice> four times to exit the screen. Setup Database Conversion UniPRO8.0.0 Step 5 Do you want to run rdb (y/n)? 25. At the prompt, type y and press <Enter>. REFRESH DATABASE 26. At the prompt, Have you run SHUTCPRO?, press <Enter> to accept the default of Y. At the prompt, Have you backed up your database?, press <Enter> to accept the default of Y. At the prompt, Database directory?, type /u1/sbc and press <Enter>. Refresh which /u1/sbc files? Your cursor is blinking at the contract? field. 27. Press <Enter>. At customer, type y and press <Enter>. At invcc, type y and press <Enter> until your cursor is at personel. At personel, type y and press <Enter> until your cursor is at sessions. At sessions, type y and press <Enter>. Keep pressing <Enter> through the last field on the screen. Messages briefly display on the screen and then the screen changes and the following now displays at the top of the screen: Setup Newsoft UniPRO8.0.0 You have now competed the conversion of one of the two databases for the Solutions software, the live database. Next, you will convert the remaining database, the training database. If you need help with the conversion procedure during steps 6 through 27, contact the SBC support desk at 1(800)950-2221. Do you want to convert another database? Continue with the steps in the next section, Converting the /u1/fun Database. Converting the /u1/fun Database Complete the steps in this section to convert the training database (/u1/fun) to SBC UniPRO release 8.0.0. 1. 7. At 1:, type /u1/lst and press <Enter>. At 2:, type /u1/fun and press <Enter>. At 3:, type /u1/reports and press <Enter>. At 4:, type /u1 and press <Enter>. Your cursor is now blinking at 5:. Keep pressing <Enter> until your cursor is blinking in the Literals Files window, at the 1: field. 8. In the Literals Files window at 1:, type lit_us and press <Enter>. Remember to use lowercase letters and to type the underscore (_) after the t and before the u. Keep pressing <Enter> until your cursor is in the File/Directory Association window at the invcc field. 9. In the first three columns of the File/Directory Association window, type 2 in each field. After the Conversion After the conversion, you need to check that the installation was successful and that you can access the rental software. Complete the procedures in the following sections. Completing a Rental Transaction To check that the conversion was successful, you need to access the rental software and ring up a contract. You will be working in the training database. Complete the following procedure. 1. On the console terminal, at the Console Login prompt, type RENTAL and press <Enter>. In the next steps you will complete a rental transaction. 2. Enter a rental period, 1D (one day). Press <F1/Home> and select any available rental item. 3. Press <F2/Help> and select any rental customer. 4. Press <F3/Run> to access the contract screen. 5. Press <F11> to go to payment or copies. Complete the transaction and print a copy. 6. If you can successfully complete a rental contract, press <Shift><F10/ Invoice> four times to return to the Console Login prompt. Then complete the procedure in the next section, Changing To the Live Database. If you cannot complete a rental contract, stop here and call Solutions by Computer at 1(800)950-2221. Changing to the Live Database The second database you converted was /u1/fun, the training database. To change the software back to the live database, complete the following procedure. 1. On the console terminal, at the Console Login prompt, type OSPREY and press <Enter>. 2. At Password, type AVATAR and press <Enter>. The Osprey Main Menu Screen displays. 3. At Selection, type PKGS and press <Enter>. The Software Packages Screen displays. 4. Select UniPRO 8.0.0 (CPRO). The Solutions by Computer Utility Menu displays. 5. Select 6 SEED Utility (SEED). The Seed <F3> Station Options Screen displays and your cursor is at the OPT1 ID: field. 6. Press <Enter> and at Cluster, type 01. 7. Press <Shift><F10/Invoice> four times. The Solutions by Computer Utility Menu displays. 8. Select 1 UniPRO (CPRO) to enter the rental software program using the live database. Running a Backup The last step in the conversion process is to run a backup on your Eagle system. Use your next scheduled backup tape set. Create a backup without running Shutdown. To run a backup, do the following: 1. At the Main Menu, type BACKUP and press <Enter>. 2. Follow the prompts on the screen.
