VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK (VPN) IN CCRH Secured Private Network Wireless Network Remote Access to the Center User-Level Authentication Easier to Implement and Manage Reliable Networking Infrastructure 10
SPECIAL FEATURES OF VPN Smoother Deployment of IP Applications Eliminate Redundant Connections High Performance - Always Available Security /Managed Wide Area Network (WAN) Cost Effective Solution Efficient customer support 11
SERVICES OFFERED Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) It is a standards-approved technology for speeding up network traffic flow and making it easier to manage. MPLS involves setting up a specific path for a given sequence of packets, identified by a label put in each packet, thus saving the time needed for a router to look up the address to the next node to forward the packet. Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) It provides connectivity between multiple sites over an existing MPLS backbone as if those sites were attached to the same Ethernet LAN switch. Network Operational Center (NOC) The NOC will be responsible not only for monitoring the network countrywide but also will be doing initial troubleshooting and fault localization to ensure minimal downtimes on failures. 12
MPLS SERVICES IN CCRH Six Research Centres : Central Council for Research In Homoeopathy( Hqs), New Delhi Central Research Institute ( Homoeopathy), Noida Central Research Institute ( Homoeopathy), Kottayam Regional Research Institute (Homoeopathy), Puri Regional Research Institute (Homoeopathy), Gudivada Homoeopathic Drug Research Institute, Lucknow 13
MPLS: ADVANTAGES MPLS core structure is hided. Each port/interface is associated with a Routing table, which only contains routes relevant for that VPN. Separate VRF s (Virtual Routing & Forwarding tables) for each VPN connectivity Security comparable to Frame Relay or any other Layer 2 VPN 14

UTILITIES OF KM Video Conferencing Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) Library OPAC Hospital Management System Homoeopathic Software 17
VIDEO CONFERENCE It is a powerful tool and provides a virtual meeting environment that gives the benefit of real meeting. It can be annual meeting of the organization or a product launch or it could be a virtual training session. The duration can vary from few minutes to hours. The long meetings on video conferencing has to be smooth and error free, no one likes distorted audio and video nor do they like any interruptions in between something crucial. 18
VOICE OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL (VOIP) It is a technology that allows to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. Some VOIP services may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. VOIP services only work over your computer or a special VOIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone connected to a VOIP adapter 19
LIBRARY OPAC The conventional card catalogue of a library is now available at your desktop for 24 hours. One can search his documents through OPAC absolutely traffic free. Other then search one can see the status of the document like whether it has been issued out or in shelf, or this document has been reserved by somebody. User can see his own status regarding library documents. To access CCRH Library OPAC by the research scientists from the remote locations, they may visit at: http://webserver/libopac. 20
HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM It is powerful, flexible, easy to use and is designed and developed to deliver real conceivable benefits to hospitals and clinics. And more importantly it is backed by reliable and dependable. This System is designed for multi-speciality research centers as well as multi-centeric research projects, to cover a wide range of hospital administration and management processes. It is an integrated end to-end Hospital Management System that provides relevant information across the research centers to support effective decision making for patient care, hospital administration and critical financial accounting, in a seamless flow. The research protocol configured system will help the research 21
HOMOEOPATHIC SOFTWARE During the research study, the selection of medicine is based on the totality of symptoms. The medicine can be selected by repertorization of the cases with the help of various homoeopathic software viz. HomPath; CARA ; and RADAR. These software are installed in the server located in central location, New Delhi, which can be accessible from the remote locations through VPN directly 22
CONCLUSION Knowledge Management to create value is the data that defines past results, the data and information associated with the organization, its Activities, and its role, and the patterns which relate all these items to enable a reliable level of predictability of the future. What I would refer to as knowledge management would be the capture, retention, and reuse of the foundation for imparting an understanding of how all these pieces fit together and how to convey them meaningfully to some other person. 23
CONCLUSION Contd.. Managed knowledge enables the members of the organization to deal with today's situations and effectively envision and create their future. Without on-demand access to managed knowledge, every situation is addressed based on what the individual or group brings to the situation with them. With ondemand access to managed knowledge, every situation is addressed with the sum total of everything anyone in the organization has ever learned about a situation of a similar nature. At the end, it is hereby concluded that the VPN is essentially required for integrating the multicentered research projects in the current information age. 24
