MCS Workstation Requirements The following is the list of requirements for the MCS workstation PC: The MCS workstation PC requires one of the following operating systems: Windows 98 Note The Windows 98 operating system contains a problem in the way it handles dates around the year 2000. If you are using this operating system, you should download the free Windows 98 Year 2000 Update from the Windows Update Web site. 1. From a system running Windows 98, click Start Settings Windows Update. 2. Click on Product Updates. 3. Check Windows 98 Year 2000 Update and follow the instructions on the web page. Windows 95 with Internet Explorer 3.02 (or later) Windows 95 version 4.00.950B Windows NT version 4.00 with Service Pack 1, 3, or 4 (Service Pack 4 is required for Year 2000-compliant fixes). Page 2 750-10277-000 Rev. A

Minimum hardware requirements: Two serial ports; one for a mouse and one for a connection to the MCS Hard disk with 10-MB free space CD-ROM drive Disk drive for 3.5-inch diskettes SVGA monitor (17-inch is best) set to 1024 x 768 graphics resolution with small fonts Note Setting your monitor to display at less than the recommended resolution may require you to use the scroll bars for access to all areas of the workstation interface. Installing the Workstation Software Before you install the workstation software, review the following workstation display recommendations: The Windows Taskbar may interfere with the display of some MCS workstation dialog boxes. You can change the settings for the Taskbar from the Start button menu: 1. Choose Settings Taskbar. 750-10277-000 Rev. A Page 3

2. On the Taskbar Options tab, check the Auto Hide option or uncheck the Always on Top option. The font size on your Windows display should be set to small fonts to avoid unpredictable results during operation. To set the font size: 1. In Windows 95, select Start Settings Control Panel. 2. In Control Panel, double-click on Display to open the Display Properties dialog box. 3. Click the Settings tab. 4. Set the Font Size field to Small Fonts and click OK to close the dialog box and apply the new settings. You can now install the workstation software: 1. Insert the MCS Workstation CD-ROM in the drive. 2. Choose Start Run. The Run dialog box appears. 3. Type D:SETUP at the Open: prompt. (D: is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.) 4. Click OK. The message Copying initialization files is displayed. Page 4 750-10277-000 Rev. A

5. Follow the prompts. Note Ensure that the date and time of the MCS Workstation are accurate. For instructions, refer to your Windows documentation. Connecting the Workstation to the MCS The first time you run the workstation software, you are prompted to create the workstation s default configuration file, MCU_WS.CFG. This file stores workstation connection information that you will enter in the procedures below. Click OK to accept the default file. Note You can also define additional configuration files from which you can select when you start the workstation software. For information, see Maintaining Your MCS. This section describes how to establish a direct workstation connection to the MCS: Set up a direct connection Connect to the MCS 750-10277-000 Rev. A Page 5
