enicq 5 Test Mode Guide Introduction In order to allow for testing in a non-production environment, enicq 5 can be installed in Test Mode. This creates a test database, either on your center s SQL Server 2008 or greater, or on a copy of SQL Server Express. Your center may want to use Test Mode to experiment with enicq 5 prior to installing it in a production environment, or you may want to have Test Mode and production mode simultaneously available. Either option is supported by enicq 5. For more information about general installation procedures, please see the enicq 5 Installation Guide. This enicq 5 Test Mode Guide will address procedures specific to configuring enicq 5 for Test Mode. The enicq 5 Installation Guide and other documents referred to in this guide are available for download here: http://www.enicq.vtoxford.org Getting Started To register a Test Mode database, your center must first coordinate with the enicq Technical Support Team (support@vtoxford.org). If your center has not been set up to use Test Mode by the Technical Support Team, you will not be able to register your test database. Data entered in Test Mode cannot be converted to live data, so it is important that any users who are participating in testing understand that no live data should be entered in Test Mode. Installing the enicq 5 Database in Test Mode The current enicq 5 installer can be downloaded here: enicq.vtoxford.org/enicq5/enicq5download.aspx When the installer is executed, you will be asked to enter your Center Number and EDS Key. To run the installer in Test Mode, complete the Optional Installation Parameters item with Copyright 2016 Vermont Oxford Network Release 1.2. All Rights Reserved. 1
mode=2 (without the quotes, no spaces). When the installer opens, you will see TEST MODE in the title bar: Hosting a Test Mode Database using SQL Server Express If you are hosting a production database using SQL Server Express, you will need to install another instance of SQL Server Express to host the Test Mode database. machine should not simultaneously host the Test Mode database and the production database. It is recommended that the testing environment match the production environment as closely as possible (for example, if a different machine is hosting the testing system, the OS should match the production environment, if possible). Hosting a Test Mode Database using SQL Server 2008 or Greater The enicq 5 database is named enicqdb by default. To identify your test database, you may want to assign a custom database name, such as enicqdbtest. If your center is testing enicq 5 prior to installation, you may want to complete all testing and delete the test database before beginning the production installation. Alternatively, you may choose to host the test database and the production database simultaneously. Hosting a live database and test database simultaneously on the same server will require that you use a custom name for at least one of the databases. If you are using a test server to host your test database, it is recommended that the testing environment match the production environment as closely as possible (for example, the database authentication method should match the production environment, if possible). Completing the Database Installation Install the enicq 5 database as described in the enicq 5 Installation Guide. This will create a separate database for testing purposes. Installing the enicq 5 Client in Test Mode Once the database installation and registration is complete, continue to the client installation. If you have installed SQL Server Express and are using the same machine for the client installation, the installer will prompt you to install the client next. If you are running the installer from a machine other than the machine that is hosting the enicq 5 Test Mode database, you will need to exit the installer and open it again from the machine where the client will be installed. Be sure to specify the Optional Installation Parameter mode=2 when running the installer. See the enicq 5 Installation Guide for information on connecting to the database. The Test Mode client and the production client cannot be installed concurrently on the same machine. Running enicq 5 in Test Mode Once the enicq 5 client has been installed and connected to the test database, use the Copyright 2016 Vermont Oxford Network Release 1.2. All Rights Reserved. 3
desktop shortcut to run the client for the first time. The default login is admin with a password of enicq (without the quotes, all lowercase). For more information about running enicq 5 for the first time, see the enicq 5 Quick Start Guide. When running enicq 5 in Test Mode, you will see the word Testing in the lower right corner: All the features available in production mode are also available in Test Mode, including data entry, error checking, and data submission capabilities. While the submission feature is operable, data submitted to VON via test mode is automatically deleted on receipt. Using the enicq 5 Time Warp When using Test Mode, enicq 5 can be set to accept future dates to accommodate testing of annual changes. The Time Warp feature allows you to alter the enicq 5 application s internal date without changing your computer s system date. In order to use the Time Warp, you must have access to the database within SQL Server or SQL Server Express. It is important to note that Time Warp alters only the application s perceived date. If the copy of enicq 5 you are using has not been updated for a future year, you will not be able to test the data entry forms for that year. The annual update is traditionally released in October or November. Please contact the enicq Technical Support team if you are not sure whether the version you are testing includes changes for an upcoming year. To set the Time Warp, open the enicq 5 database (enicqdb by default, or your custom database name) within SQL Server or SQL Server Express using SQL Management Studio. Expand the Tables folder, then open dbo.tbltimewarp. The only field in the table is YearOffset, and the default value for this field is 0 (zero). To set the Time Warp forward by one year, change the YearOffset value from 0 (zero) to 1 (one). enicq 5 displays the year for which the application is set in the lower right corner. To turn off the Time Warp and reset the application to the current year, change the YearOffset value back to 0 (zero). Note: You should never alter the YearOffset for a live enicq 5 database.
