How to set up a Default Printer 1. Click on the Start Menu 2. Select the Devices and Printers icon Start menu window 3. The Devices and Printers window will show you all the installed printers you have on your PC For example: Devices and Printers Window
4. Identify your Printer by using the 3 letter code representing your site and the asset number of the printer - together they form the asset number for the device e.g. GWM046500 where GWM stands for Gosport War Memorial and 046500 is the asset number. Note: Printer Asset Number (Equipment ID) 5. Once you have located the correct printer for your base, click on the identified printer, right hand click via your mouse - another window will pop down, you will need to select the option Set as default printer Once your default printer has been set, this will remain as the default for all the printing you do from your current base. 6. You are now ready to use your printer. Select the File tab and click on Print, this will open up the Print Preview Window and Print options. Your default Printer will be shown in the box below, check that it has the green circle with the white tick in it, if it has you have the right Printer, if not you will have to repeat the steps above. 7. If working in a different/ temporary location, you will have to identify an appropriate printer before printing you can use step 6 by clicking the Printer list arrow, and then click the printer you want to use. For example: Print Preview Window Printer List Window Note: The default printer will show a green circle with a white tick in it you can change this at any time by following the above steps
8. If the printer you want is not showing in your printers list on your PC, you will have to search for the correct Printer and add it to your list. You can do this by: 9. Revisiting step 1 and 2 until you get to the Devices and Printers Window 10. Click on Add Printer Devices and Printers Window 11. Select Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer
12. Scroll down and search for your printer, ensuring you select the right printer for the right location (refer to step 4) 13. Once the printer has been identified, highlight the printer (as above) and then click Next 14. The following window will appear showing you that the printer is currently being installed. Note: You will get a prompt to ask you if you want to set this as your default printer, click No. Follow step 7 and your printer can now be selected from the Printer List Window
15. If the printer you are trying to search for is not on the list, you will need to select The printer that I want isn t listed, click on next 16. Ensure you select find a printer in the directory. Then click on next
17. The Find Printers window will appear, you will be able to search for the printer that you want to use by scrolling through the list, 18. Highlight the printer you want and then click OK 19. The following window will appear showing you that the printer is currently being installed
20. The windows shown below indicate that you have successfully located and installed your printer. 21. Click on Next, then Finish Note: You will get a prompt to ask you if you want to set this as your default printer, click No Follow step 7 and your printer can now be selected from the Printer List Window
