FPS BYOD Wireless Network This document will help users connect their personally owned wireless devices to Framingham Public Schools BYOD wireless network. Visitors: If you have a visitor with a personal device that needs temporary access to our network please contact the Helpdesk ahead of time to have temporary access granted. Accessing BYOD - online directions Framingham Public School provides a secure wireless network for staff and students to connect their personal electronic devices to the internet while in school buildings. The BYOD (bring your own device) wireless network is for staff and students only. Staff and students will use their district provided credentials to log onto the network providing accountability. These credentials should not be shared with others. Any guests from outside the district can request access by contacting the Office of Technology help desk:508-782-6901. When connecting with their school provided username and password users agree to adhere to the district s Acceptable Use Policy. The district also asks, in order to help protect the network, that all connecting devices be up to date with security patches and have appropriate anti-virus protection. We have provided directions in order to facilitate connecting devices to the BYOD Network. However, the Office of Technology staff can not offer direct support for personal devices. If you have difficulty connecting to the network you may need to contact your device's support supplier for assistance.
Cell Phone/Tablets: Go into your device s Settings App. Find the Wifi settings Click on the BYOD network If not listed - Add a network (usually bottom of list) Complete the form with the following information SSID(Network name) = BYOD Security = 802.1 EAP or WPA-enterprise depending on device Method = PEAP No Authentication No Certificate Identity: your school username ex: Student\username or fpsnet\staff username leave anonymous identity empty password= school email password Click on Connect On an iphone or ipad you may receive a message that the certificate is not trusted. You may complete the process by clicking on the Trust link.
WIN 7/8/10 Computers Find wireless bar icon in the lower right corner of your desktop - Right click on icon Click on Network Settings Open the Network and Sharing Center Click on Set up a new connection or network, Choose to manually connect to a wireless network Type in: BYOD as network name Use drop down in security type: WPA2-enterprise
You have added the BYOD network connection but you need to change a network setting.- click on link. Click on the setting button Uncheck the validate server identity box then click OK. Click on Advanced Settings Use drop down menu to change the authentication mode to user authentication. Fill in your school login credentials. If you are a student you need to add: student\ before your school username. Staff uses their first initial, last name student\tbrady1234 gwashington Close all pop out windows by clicking on OK Setting up the BYOD wireless connection in this way should automatically connect.when your computer detects the network.
Apple MacBook: Open wireless network list by clicking on the wireless icon in the taskbar. Click on the BYOD network. Complete the requested fields with your school provided username/password. Staff username : first initial, last name Student username : student\username Password is email password You will need to change the certificate setting. Click on show certificate. Re-enter login credential and hot on update settings
Chromebook: Click on wifi icon lower right corner of desktop Click on wifi connection Join (bottom of list) Complete form: SSID = BYOD EAP Method = PEAP Authentication= Automatic Server CA Cert: use drop down menu and change to DO NOT CHECK Enter in identity= school username Examples: student\username OR fpsnet\staff username Password = email password Hit Connect
