REFER TO AMM JIC CHAPTER 00. CAUTION: OBEY THE APPLICABLE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN YOU WORK ON THE ADJUSTABLE PLATFORM. WARNING: PUT A WARNING NOTICE IN THE FLIGHT COMPARTMENT TO TELL PERSONS NOT TO OPERATE THE FLIGHT CONTROLS: A Preparation (1) Make the aircraft safe for maintenance. Refer to AMM JIC 00-30-01. (2) Put a correct platform around the work area. (3) Remove the following access panels 324-HL and 324-CL. Refer to AMM JIC 06-40- 02. B Inspection (1) Do a detailed inspection of the rudder spring tab lever assembly P/N 001D272A4020000 (item 1) refer to detail B figure 2. Do an inspection for signs of cracks around the edges of the two lugs which retain the swaged bearings. (2) NDI Instrument Calibration. (a) Operate the test equipment as given in the manufacturer s instructions. (b) Set the necessary frequency to 3.1 khz. Refer to fig. 3. NOTE: Alternative instruments can have different settings. The frequency must stay the same but the other parameters must be adjusted in regard to the responses of the calibration standard. Model: Dornier 328-300 Rev. No.: 1 No.: ASB-328J-27-013 Rev. NOTE: (c) Put the probe on the outside of calibration standard SE.4.64 in a slot-free area, refer to fig. 4. (d) Calibrate the instrument as given in the manufacturer s instructions for the lift-off at 270 on the display as shown in figure 3. (e) Put the probe on the outside of the calibration standard. Move the probe over the 1.0 and 1.7mm slots and adjust the sensitivity so, that the signal at the 1.7 mm slot is at 40 % of the full scale, refer to figure 3. (3) Do an Eddy current NDI on both bearing lug peripherals, refer to figure 2. (a) Put the probe on the compensation point near to the inspection area and set the lift-off as necessary, refer to figure 2 and 3. (b) Do the inspection as given in figure 2. Use the probe position and scan along path movements as illustrated, refer to detail C figure 2. If possible use a suitable tool to guide the probe centered around the lug. Make sure no crack indications are given as a result of positioning the probe too near to the edge of lug. NOTE: (c) Look at the display for signals that are different from those of the compensation point and the undamaged bearing lug area at Pos. 2, refer to fig. 2 & 3. For any signal that exceeds the dashed line (signal level of the compensation point, refer to fig. 3), it is necessary to remove the bearing and do a special detailed inspection (eddy current) of the bearing seat from inside. Refer to NTM 51-25-60. In case of findings continue with paragraph C. CAUTION: NO CRACKS ARE PERMITTED. IF CRACKS ARE FOUND CONTACT 328 SUPPORT SERVICES GMBH. PLEASE SUPPLY IMPORTANT DETAILS AND PHOTOS ETC. INCLUDING NDI TEST EQUIPMENT USED AND ITS SETTINGS. (4) If a crack is found then a replacement lever assembly (item 1) must be installed, continue with paragraph C. If no crack is found continue with paragraph D. Page 4 of 10 ASB-328J-27-013 Rev. 1
