Setting up the server and preparing the client to use Parts in SolidEdge This section explains how to install and configure a Microsoft SQL Server and install the EdgePLM Parts License Server. It then sets out how you will have to prepare the client. A 64-bit Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express with Tools is used for illustration purposes, but any SQL Server from 2008 R2 can be used. The most recent version of the corresponding runtime has been used for the EdgePLM Parts License Server. 1.1 Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express We recommend to use SQL Server to run EdgePLM Parts but you can also use Access. If so please see Chapter 1.3.4 How to change the Settings of the Part Manager from SQL to Access and skip the Chapters till 1.2 Installing the EdgePLM parts license service. 1.1.1 System requirements for SQL Express Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express is a version of the Microsoft SQL Server that can be obtained and used for free. The following system requirements must be met: Windows 7, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R 32-bit systems - computer with Intel or compatible 1-GHz processor or faster (at least 2 GHz is recommended). EdgePLM Parts no longer supports 32-bit systems as client installations. Solid Edge stopped supporting 32-bit systems with version ST7. 64-bit systems - 1.4-GHz processor or faster At least 512 MB RAM is necessary (at least 2 GB recommended). 4.2 GB free disk space A detailed list of system requirements is available at https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.120).aspx. 02.01.2017 2 J.O.

1.1.2 Deactivating User Account Control (UAC) Open the Start menu and click Control Panel. Select User Accounts and Parental Controls. Next, select User Accounts. 02.01.2017 3 J.O.

Now click Change User Account Control settings. Move the slider to the very bottom and click OK to confirm. Confirm the User Account Control setting by clicking Yes and restart your computer, if necessary. You can reactivate User Account Control once you have completed the installation. 02.01.2017 4 J.O.

1.1.3 Installing the SQL server If you have not yet downloaded the SQL server, you can access it via the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42299 Select ExpressAndTools 64BIT\SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe to download. Run the file SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe that you downloaded. You can click OK to confirm the extraction dialogue box that appears. If you wish, you can also select an alternative directory. The archive will then be extracted to the chosen location and the installation process will be launched. 02.01.2017 5 J.O.

Select Install new independent SQL Server or add functions to an existing installation in the window that appears. Please read the licensing terms and accept them. 02.01.2017 6 J.O.

A number of global rules are then checked. If an error is returned at this point, please follow the instructions to rectify it. If there are no errors or notifications, you can skip this window. Please check the box to allow important automatic updates. In this example, there were no updates to be applied. 02.01.2017 7 J.O.

The most important files for the installation will now be installed. There are just a few more checks to be carried out. If an error is detected, please resolve it as described in the dialogue. If nothing serious is detected, this dialogue box will not be displayed. 02.01.2017 8 J.O.

The next page is where features are selected. Only the marked features need to be installed in order to run EdgePLM Parts and EdgePLM Components. You can use the following dialogue box to specify the name of the SQL instance. Click Next to confirm the settings. 02.01.2017 9 J.O.

The next step is to set up the services. It is important to note that both services should be set to Automatic if access is to be granted from the network. If it is a standalone installation, the SQL Server browser can be left as deactivated. You now need to switch the SQL Server to Mixed mode, choose a strong password (e.g. P@ssw0rd or P@$$w0rd ) and enter all the necessary SQL administrators. Due to the new security concept introduced with SQL 2008, the installation dialogue does not automatically enter all administrators as SQL administrators. They need to be added manually. However, the administrator who is currently signed in is automatically added. 02.01.2017 10 J.O.

The SQL Server will now be installed. Depending on the performance of the computer, this can take several minutes. If necessary, restart the computer when the installation process has been completed. 02.01.2017 11 J.O.

1.1.4 Setting up the SQL server for network access If you only intend to use EdgePLM Parts locally, you can skip this section. Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager via Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2014 > Configuration Tools. Now go to SQL Server network configuration > Protocols for SQLEXPRESS. Activate Named Pipes and TCP/IP. Click OK to acknowledge the warning that appears then restart the services via the SQL Server service. 02.01.2017 12 J.O.

1.1.5 Creating an EdgePLM Parts database Open the SQL Server Management Studio via Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2014. It can take a couple of minutes to open when used for the first time. Click Connect to confirm the registration. Right-click Databases in the Management Studio program window and select Restore Database. Select Medium in the following window. 02.01.2017 13 J.O.

If you now select the button at the end of the line you can select Add in the next dialogue box and go to the storage location of the supplied EdgePLM Parts database. It has the file extension.bak. Select the file and click OK to confirm and thus add the file to the backup media. Click OK again to add the backup to the Restore window. You can now name the database as you choose in the database line. In this example, it has been given the name EdgePLM_Parts. The window should now appear more or less as shown here. Click the OK button to restore the database. Once the restore action has been completed, a window opens that you can acknowledge by clicking OK. 02.01.2017 14 J.O.

1.1.6 Creating the Part User Expand the folder called Security in the Object Explorer, right-click Registrations and select New Registration from the context menu. Specify the sign-in name in the window that opens, e.g. parts. Now select SQL Server Authentication and choose a password. In this example, the sign-in name has been used as the password. Uncheck the box next to Force password policy. The window should now look like this: In the next step, select the menu item User Name Mapping under Select Page. 02.01.2017 15 J.O.

Check the box next to the EdgePLM Parts database, enter dbo as the standard schema and check the boxes next to db_owner and public under Membership in database role, if they are not already checked. The window should now look like this: Click the OK button to confirm and the user will be created and entered in the database. You can check this by expanding Database > Security > User. The EdgePLM Parts databank is now ready to be used. 02.01.2017 16 J.O.

1.2 Installing the EdgePLM parts license service Since version 2013.5, it has only been possible to run EdgePLM Parts with an active license. Licensing is controlled via the CodeMeter of WIBU System AG. This section describes how to install the CodeMeter server and then explains how you can expand you existing licenses. Please discuss separate installations, node-locked licenses and test licenses with your sales personnel. If there is already an active installation of the CodeMeter service on the affected server, please check whether it is possible to integrate the EdgePLM Parts licenses into this service. Note: If you are only using EdgePLM Parts locally, you can skip this section. Further information is available from the EdgePLM Parts hotline. 1.2.1 System requirements for the CodeMeter license service Required interface: USB (1.1/2.0/3.0) Operating system: Windows 8, Windows 2012 Server, Windows 7 Windows 2008 Server [R2] Windows Vista Windows XP Windows 2003 Server. Further information is available at http://support.codemeter.de/en/setup/requirements.html. 1.2.2 Installation You can download the most recent runtime of CodeMeter licensing via the following link http://codemeter.de/us/service/downloads.html. This example uses Version 6.1, but please note that any additional software being used must also support the most recent installation. Launch the installation you have downloaded and click Next to confirm the first dialogue. 02.01.2017 17 J.O.

Please read the software license agreement in the subsequent dialogue box, accept it and click Next. In the next dialogue box, enter your name and your company but do not change any other settings, then click Next. 02.01.2017 18 J.O.

Click Next again. It is not currently possible to change the installation destination. Click Install in the following dialogue box to install the license service. 02.01.2017 19 J.O.

Once the installation is complete, click Finish. 1.2.3 Setting up for network access A greyed-out logo for the CodeMeter license service appears in the system tray. If you insert the dongle into the server, it will be recognised as a removable drive and the colour of the icon in the system tray will change. Now, open the WebAdmin of the license service. You can do this either by right-clicking the system tray icon and selecting WebAdmin. 02.01.2017 20 J.O.

Or by left-clicking the system tray icon and selecting WebAdmin in the control centre. The web interface of the license service will now open in your chosen standard Internet browser. Select Settings > Server > Server Access in the interface. 02.01.2017 21 J.O.

Now select Activate under Network Server and click Adopt. After a short wait, network access will be activated. Note: 1. At this point, if you have activated a domain firewall on the server, you will need to release port 22350 on the server and the client. Otherwise, the service will be unable to communicate with the client. 2. If you have installed F-Secure on the server and/or client, it is essential that CodeMeter.exe is transferred from the installation directory to the F-Secure white list. If it is not, you could encounter major problems when running the license. 02.01.2017 22 J.O.

1.2.4 Expanding the EdgePLM parts licenses To expand your EdgePLM Parts licenses, open the CodeMeter control centre either by leftclicking the system tray icon or right-clicking the system tray icon and selecting View in the context menu. Now select Update license. Click Next in the following dialogue box. 02.01.2017 23 J.O.

Now select Create license request and click Next. Select Expand existing license and click Next. 02.01.2017 24 J.O.

Now select ISAP AG as the manufacturer and click Next. You can use this dialogue firstly to specify the storage location and the name of the **.WibuCMRaC file to be created and then to create the file by clicking Apply. You can quit the assistant by clicking Finish in the following window. 02.01.2017 25 J.O.

Send the **.WibuCMRaC file you have just created to EdgePLM Parts support so that they can activate it. Following activation, EdgePLM Parts support will send you back a **.WibuCMRaU file that you will need to import into the license server. To do that, restart the CodeMeter control centre and click Update license. Click Next in the assistant. 02.01.2017 26 J.O.

This time, select Import license update and click Next. In the following dialogue, select the **.WibuCMRaU file that you have been sent and click Apply. You can close the following dialogue and then check the number of licenses in Web Admin. Note: 1. A new **.WibuCMRaC file must be created for each activation. 2. **.WibuCMRaU files can only be imported once. 02.01.2017 27 J.O.

1.3 Setting up the client This section explains how to set up the client in order to use Parts. 1.3.1 Setting up the client for SQL access If you are using EdgePLM Parts locally, you can skip this section, because the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client you need has already been installed. Note: Microsoft SQL Server 2014 does not use a 2014 Native Client, but rather the 2012 version of the Native Client! You need the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client for the following step. You can download this native client via the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29065. Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client must be installed on every client. Once you have downloaded the native client, start the installation process by double-clicking the file. Click Next in the window that then opens. Agree to the licensing terms and click Next. 02.01.2017 28 J.O.

You don t have to change anything in the next dialogue box and can click Next. Click Install in the next window and then Finish. 1.3.2 Installing clients for EdgePLM Parts and / or EdgePLM Components When installing EdgePLM Parts, please ensure that the necessary version of Microsoft.NET Framework is installed on the machine (you can check this by looking in the readme file). You can get it directly from Microsoft. It is advisable to deactivate UAC prior to installation. You can find out how to do that in the section of this document about deactivating UAC. Deactivating User Account Control (UAC) Please note that there has been no need to install EdgePLM Components separately since version 16.0 of EdgePLM Parts was launched. EdgePLM Components is automatically installed in parallel with the corresponding version of EdgePLM Parts. Launch the installation of EdgePLM Parts and click Next to confirm. In the next dialogue, accept the license agreement and click Next to confirm. 02.01.2017 29 J.O.

Now enter the IP address or server name for your license server. If you are only running EdgePLM Parts locally, you don t need to enter anything here. Click Next to move to the next dialogue box. During the next step, you can change the installation destination, which is set by default to C:\Program Files\ISAP AG\EdgePLM parts\ then click Next to confirm. Click Install in the following dialogue box to install EdgePLM Parts. Once Parts has been installed, click Finish to close the installation dialogue. If using Parts locally, insert your dongle into the computer now. 02.01.2017 30 J.O.

1.3.3 Client set up, first time using EdgePLM Parts If you have already set up EdgePLM Parts with the Configuration Center via this computer, you can skip this step. You can also skip this step if you are using COMPACT, as both programs use the same configuration path. Launch Solid Edge and open an empty module. If you click on the EdgePLM Parts tab in the Edge Bar, you should see the message The configuration could not be loaded. Please reset the configuration range. You can open the configuration dialogue either by selecting Tools > Settings or by clicking the settings icon (in the toolbar above the question mark). The configuration settings dialogue will open. You can either enter the configuration path manually or use the browse button to find it. Please ensure that you select the configuration folder and not the Parts subfolder in this folder. 02.01.2017 31 J.O.

Click OK to confirm and the Parts settings dialogue will open, giving you the opportunity to enter single location settings, if you wish. Once you have made all the necessary user settings, click OK to close the dialogue. Restart Solid Edge and open an empty module again. You should now be able to see the structure of the database and EdgePLM Parts is now ready to use. If you need to set up various workstations, you can share the Settings.conf that you have just created with all the other clients. You will find the file here: C:\ProgramData\ISAP AG and it must be copied to the same location on the clients. If the folder does not exist, it will have to be created. 02.01.2017 32 J.O.

1.3.4 How to change the Settings of the EdgePLM Parts from SQL to Access You will have the possibility to switch to Access. This is useful if there are problems with the SQL server. This enables the users to continue to work. The PM use XML files to save the settings. These settings for each single client computer system are stored in a special directory. This Konfigurationsbereich directory is generally underneath the database (Datenbank) directory. To switch from SQL to Access you have to delete the settings.conf in the C:\ProgramData\ISAP AG. 02.01.2017 33 J.O.

This enables you to choose a different Konfigurationsbereich in SolidEdge/PartManager. Start an assembly environment in SolidEdge to switch. In the Edgebar on tabulator Parts you will find the settings for the PartManager. Click the Einstellungen anzeigen and navigate to Konfigurationsbereich to choose Access. Click ok->ok and restart SolidEdge to save the settings. 02.01.2017 34 J.O.

You will now see the settings for Access. You may have to change the language. For that amend the settings on the tabulator Sprache to your language. Bear in mind that only German, English and Italian are valid settings. 02.01.2017 35 J.O.
