2 WordPress: UBC Blogs Student Guide Toggling Between the Dashboard and Website View Every time you log in, you will be directed to the Dashboard, the back- end where the website is built. To toggle between the Dashboard and Website View, click on the title of your website located at the top left on the WordPress menu bar. Selecting a Template Theme This is where you choose a look for your website. Templates may vary in the different functions that they offer. Select the best one suited for your purpose. 1. Appearance à Themes 2. Hover over a Theme, you may select Live Preview to view it before committing to it. 3. In preview mode, you may see some template customization options depending on the theme chosen. These can be edited after activating a template. 4. Click Save & Activate from the preview mode or Activate to select the theme. 5. You will now see the template applied in the website view.

Select one of the following options: I would like my site to be visible only to Registered network users. anyone with a UBC CWL who knows your Blog URL will be able to view your blog. Allow search engines to index this site anyone who has your Blog URL will be able to view your blog (including non- UBC users) **If there is a reason you prefer to have your Blog private, you will need to grant your Instructor/TA access in order for them to mark your assignment. Granting User Access 1. Click on Users à Invite User 2. Input the user s email address 3. Under role, choose Subscriber 4. Click Send invitation(s) Creating a Page A page is a static space that often features content like information about the site. 1. Hover over the name of your website on the top toolbar. 2. Click on Dashboard. 3. Pages à Add New

Creating a Post A post is an article that shows up in the chronology of your blog with the most recent at the top of the page. Posts can be tagged to identify relevant topics it pertains to. Viewers can subscribe to your blogroll. 1. Hover over the name of your website on the top toolbar. 2. Click on Dashboard. 3. Posts à Add New

Adding Hyperlinks 1. In the Visual Editor, highlight the text that you would like to add a link to 2. Click on the Insert/edit link icon 3. Input the link and click Add Link Note: If you used an online tool for your assignments that provides a URL, you can use this option.
7 WordPress: UBC Blogs Student Guide Adding Media 1. Add Media by clicking the Add Media button 1. Browse your computer for a file to upload or select a file from your Media Library. 2. Click Insert into Post when finished to add to your post. 3. To adjust the settings of an image in the post, select the image and a box will appear. You can toggle between options to align the image to the left, center, or right of the post. 4. Select the Pencil Icon to edit the Caption of the image. Embedding Videos 1. To embed videos from YouTube or Vimeo, click on the Share button of the video 2. Click on Embed and copy the embed code for the video
