(Data xfer has been optimized.) #3 Model Update This is a function of Revit on the local machine. Revit Server project will not affect this.

7 Revit Server IT identifies the Central Server to which the Local (office) Server will connect. (A Local Server connects to ONLY one Central Server.) IT connects users via an OS System Variable, or User connects to Local Revit Server via Connect to Revit Server dropdown on Collaborate tab. User must enter server name or IP address.

8 Revit Server The user identifies files to open from the Central Server list The Local Server maintains a cached copy for Reload Latest Users can not create projects or directories via this dialogue. Any number of folders and sub-folders can be created via the Revit Server Administrator.

9 Revit Server No other UI changes except Manage Links. There is a new Path Type called Revit Server. Only Revit workshared files can be managed on the server. Non-workshared RVT files, DWGs, Images, etc. can live on the server machine, but Revit Server doesn t manage them.

10 Revit Server Administrator Any user can type the server name in browser window. (Access would be controlled by firm IT dept.) Based on Microsoft Silverlight technology. It will ask you to download Silverlight plug-in if you don t have it installed. Create, delete, rename and move folders and central models on a central server Lock/unlock central models for backup and restoration View submission history for any model Command-line tool for RVT file creation

12 Revit Server Environment One server per location: Windows Server 2008 / R2 T1+ between locations with < 100ms latency Internet Information Server 7.0 or later Web Services Silverlight plug-in for Revit Server Administrator Minor configuration changes ( ~ 5 IIS settings) Prefer a server that doesn t have office server or other heavy traffic applications. VMWare or Hyper-V virtualization support WAN acceleration compatibility

13 Revit Server Limitations Users cannot create, delete, rename or move central models and folders on Revit central servers using Revit client, but they can do that using Revit Server Administrator. Rollback feature has been disabled. No longer possible to work at risk. "Worksharing Monitor" has been replaced by a Bluestreak add-in monitoring worksharing activity.
