2 W H E N T O H O L D T H E E V E N T: Now, prepare to open the door to this classic story as you enter an amazing kingdom that struggles between good and evil We suggest that your event be held anytime between October 1 and November 20, This program will provide you with an ideal fall event (perhaps as an alternative to Halloween). The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe opens in theatres December 9, SUGGESTED ADVERTISING LANGUAGE TO PROMOTE YOUR PROGRAM: Open a door and enter a world unlike any you have experienced before. Join us for a very special event as we celebrate the release of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Bring your very favorite traveling companions and join us for an evening of wonder, filled with games, food and a very special behind-the-scenes look at the film. Is that a lamppost ahead? S E T U P F O R T H E E V E N T: Create an entrance into your own kingdom of Narnia. Use a hallway, sanctuary or gym door to simulate the experience of stepping through the wardrobe. As this happens, your guests will step into a land held in the grip of the White Witch where the season of winter never ends. Make paper snowflakes to hang from the ceiling and cover the walls with white snowy sheets. Surround the room with Christmas or artificial trees. Or create them by anchoring large branches into big pots or making cardboard cutouts with bits of cotton on them to create a snowy forest. Put together a Hollywood premiere complete with a red carpet, bright lights and movie cameras. Ask leaders to dress up as different characters in the movie (the White Witch, Mr. Tumnus, Lucy, Edmund, the Beavers) and mingle with the guests. You may find images of these characters from the film at The views expressed herein do not represent those of the Walt Disney Company, Walden Media, The C.S. Lewis Estate, or the filmmakers, but are rather the views of various organizations who have created these resources specifically for leaders in the faith and family community.

3 W ELCOME: (approximate time: 15 minutes) Make nametags available at a welcome table. Create tags that are marked Son of Adam and Daughter of Eve that guests may write their names on. Offer a plate of Turkish Delight for your guests to sample. Use the recipe below or purchase different flavors of salt water taffy. Distribute the Narnia Map activity page and provide pencils, pens and crayons. Introduce the story of Narnia by reading the first chapter of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe aloud, or tell the story of how C.S. Lewis wrote this story for his goddaughter, Lucy. You may find this interesting account at chronicles/books/chapter_lion.html. O PENING A CTIVITY: JOURNEY INTO NARNIA Materials needed: Narnia Map activity pages, crayons or markers Provide one Map activity sheet for each participant. Invite participants to color their maps and share their work with the group. MEET THE CHILDREN Materials needed: Narnia children paper doll pages, thin cardboard or poster board, glue sticks, crayons or markers, and scissors Distribute the paper doll sheets and invite participants to color each one and then glue them to the poster board. While they dry, describe the characters of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy to the group. The focus should be on what each of the children became magnificent, gentle, just and valiant. Talk about how these traits are significant and important to our lives today. Complete the activity by cutting out and assembling the paper dolls. VIDEO INTRODUCTION & ACTIVITY: (approximate time: 20 minutes) Begin your journey into Narnia by watching the movie trailer and amazing behind-the-scenes footage on the Narnia Resources DVD, which shows how the movie was made! Afterward, talk about the themes that are present in the film. FAITH The Beavers and many other Narnians cling to their faith that Aslan will return, even though they have lived for 100 years under the evil spell of endless winter. They never give up hope and are willing to fight the Witch even after they think Aslan has been taken from them. DEVOTION Lucy and Susan follow Aslan to his execution at the Stone Table and stay with him even though they are putting themselves in danger by doing so. Later they attempt to clean his body and are the first to see him alive. RESURRECTION Aslan seems to be unsure whether he will be there for the battle against the White Witch, but there is a deeper magic that brings him back to life. TRANSFORMATION The first sign that Aslan is returning is the visit of Father Christmas. Christmas evokes the image of new birth, and we start to see a magical transformation as the entire land experiences an awakening. Birds sing, trees and bushes sprout, and streams flow as the Beavers and the children make their journey to meet Aslan. Create your own buzz about what the Beaver heard that Aslan is on the move! Tell the audience that when leaders put a finger to their lips, that s their clue to say, Aslan is on the move! Practice by whispering it at first, and then get louder each time. CRAFT: SON OF ADAM/DAUGHTER OF EVE SCROLL Materials needed: Copies of the Scroll activity sheet, string or ribbon, markers or crayons, gold stickers or seals, craft sticks and glue sticks. Distribute the materials and show participants how to glue a craft stick to the top and bottom of their scrolls. Families should work together to help each other complete the blanks on their scrolls and then color them. Afterward, families should roll up their scrolls, seal them and tie them with string or ribbon.

4 BEFORE EACH GAME, GIVE THE SECRET SIGNAL ASLAN IS ON THE MOVE! ASLAN FREEZE TAG Materials needed: Sheets of sticker dots (available at office supply stores) Help bring the stone statues back to life! Depending upon how many participants you have, divide into groups of approximately 20. Provide each team with a playing area. Then each team must designate one player to be the White Witch, two players to be the Beavers and one player to be Aslan. The player who is Aslan should lie on the ground, pretending to be dead. Start by asking the White Witch to place each team member wherever desired within his or her kingdom, and then apply a sticker dot to their backs, turning them into statues. At the Go! command, the Beavers start to chant, Aslan is on the move! louder and louder until Aslan wakes up. Aslan may then bring statues back to life by tagging them and removing their dots. Once a player has been tagged by Aslan, he or she must try to move off the playing field before being tagged once again by the White Witch. The game is over when all players but one has been effectively rescued by Aslan. That player is the next White Witch. HEAD FOR THE WARDROBE! Materials needed: Lamppost cutouts (you will need one for each team you have), wardrobe shapes, lamp (unplugged), and a white table cloth or sheet. Cut out enough wardrobe shapes and distribute one to each person. Ask participants to write their names on one wardrobe door. (Parents may help younger children accomplish tasks like this). Separate the group into four or more teams (depending on the number of people you have). Each team should go to an opposite corner (or area) of the room. The doors and the lamppost cutouts should be scattered onto the snowy sheet in the center of the room beside the lamp. At the signal, Head for the wardrobe! the first person from each team races to the snowy land to find a lamppost. Once found, they return it to their teams. The next person then runs out and tries to find a wardrobe door that belongs to someone in his or her group (but not his or her own); races back to his or her team; and the next person takes a turn. Continue until all the wardrobes for the teams have been found. (Parents may help younger ones with reading names).

5 R EFRESHMENTS: Serve a Feast with the Beavers Potato Bar. Offer baked potatoes with a variety of toppings (cheese, chili, broccoli, sour cream, butter). Provide a Tea with Mr. Tumnus dessert by offering frosted cupcakes. Offer a variety of yummy sprinkles so everyone may decorate them. Offer Sardine Sandwiches by putting peanut butter and Goldfish crackers on top of Cheez-It squares. Supply some Wardrobe Doors for everyone to enjoy by baking rectangular sugar cookies (or brownies) before everyone arrives. Set out a variety of frostings, sprinkles and plastic knives to allow participants to make each Wardrobe Door uniquely their own.
