4 PRE - PRODUCTION The process begins with sketching that involves defining a character s basic shape and definition. Storyboarding is the next step where its activities are detailed out frame by frame. Clay modelling then involves detailing a character s figure and posture. PRODUCTION This stage wraps open with modeling that involves sculpting backgrounds, building characters, their props and finally, the 2D concept art turning into high detail, topologically sound 3D models. Then the process progresses to texturing, that is sometimes done from scratch or by editing an existing image. Textures are created in the form of maps which are then assigned to the model. The piece of art, then goes through the process of lighting which includes placing lights, defining its properties, defining its interaction with different types of materials, positions and intensities. It is then the process of rigging that adds bones to a character which is central to the entire process of animation. POST PRODUCTION The final stage in animation comprises of the process of compositing, which means bringing together all the 3D elements produced by the previous departments in the pipeline to create a final rendered image that s ready for a film.

The pre-visualization will be used as a guide for the shots that are to be filmed. PRODUCTION There would be a live shoot where high-dynamic range photographs are taken as reference, to enable the team to use image-based lighting techniques while lighting up scenes. The photos taken are digitized at this stage. Then the process of rotoscoping takes the lead with the roto artist drawing around a character on every frame, so that everything appears to be layered in perfect order at the final stage. Later, with an accurate camera track the process of camera matching is done. Matte painting is then performed, where an artist replaces the background of a character by recreating a set, background or any place in the world! Compositing is the last process in the chain and it is where all elements, including the scanned plates are brought together to create a seamlessly finished image. Compositors must have an excellent grasp of lens properties and film, as well as an artistic eye to achieve this.
