How to create a rule File that needs to communicate: Ad-Aware.exe Remote communication port: 80 Local communication port: * (random) There are three options for how to configure the Firewall so that it enables the Ad- Aware application to communicate. Options 1 and 2 generally have the same effect; this approach is recommended for most users. Option 3 is intended for expert users that want to have full control over the Firewall settings Firewall Ask Dialog Run the Ad-Adware application. Wait until it attempts to connect to the internet. You will be invited to decide whether this communication should be allowed confirm (allow) this communication. When the Ad-Aware application attempts to communicate over the internet, the attempt is detected by the Firewall and you are invited to decide whether the communication should be allowed Creating Firewall Rule Alternatively you can create a specific Firewall rule for the Ad-Adware application. This rule defines that all actions are allowed for the Ad-Adware application. Open Control Center Click on the Firewall component panel Press the Configure button in the bottom part of the dialog window

4 4 Select the Applications tab in the newly opened dialog window Press the Add Application button

5 5 Enter the full path to the Ad-Aware SE Core application click the... button to locate the folder (e.g., the path will be in the form of C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal\Ad-Aware.exe) In the Action field select the Allow option Confirm the settings by pressing the OK button 1.3. Creating an Advanced Firewall Rule Within the Firewall create an advanced rule for the Ad-Adware application. This rule defines that the application can communicate on the remote port 80 and on any local port. Open the Control Center Click the Firewall component panel Press the Configure button in the bottom part of the dialog window Select the Applications tab in the newly opened dialog window Press the Add Application button Enter the full path to the Ad-Aware SE Core application click the... button to locate the folder (e.g., the path will be in the form of C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal\Ad-Aware.exe) Press the Advanced configuration button to switch to the extended configuration dialog Select the Create rule option Select the New service option and enter the name of the new service, e.g. Ad-Aware Select the New item option and enter the value 80 into the remote ports field Press the OK button to confirm the settings Select the newly created service in the dialog window with the defined services list and click the -> button to move the new service to the list of Applied services Press the OK button to confirm the settings Note All of the described procedures can be used generally for creating an Firewall rule for any application.

6 6 2. AVG and Ad-Aware testing During test, we have verified that there are no malfunctions, conflicts or any other undesirable effects when AVG and Ad-Aware are running simultaneously.
