1 New Offering MainView Console Management for zenterprise The BMC MainView Console Management for zenterprise enables customers to efficiently manage complex and geographically dispersed operations from a consolidated and secured point of control. The solution provides secure console access via standard console connectivity hardware, including all OSA-ICC and ESCON controllers, allowing access to System z consoles from a Linux Server (or Linux Image on a VM Server). By using standard protocols, no modifications to existing hardware or System z console definitions are needed. Console connections across the Internet are secured using SSL encryption, allowing access to host systems at any time and from anywhere. All console messages, including NIP and IPL messages, can be consolidated. With scroll-back and drill-down capabilities, it provides logs and problem solving capabilities during IPLs and System z downtime, when no other message logging is available. Because you launch console viewers from a web browser, no special software needs to be installed on workstations. Users are authenticated before being granted access to console sessions. Authentication can take place in an onboard authentication server or through standard repositories, such as LDAP, Active Directory, and RACF. Once connected to a console, console images are delivered based on security policies. This approach allows proactive measures to be used to mitigate the danger of malicious or accidental access to production systems. The BMC MainView Console automation for zenterprise license add-on provides an enhanced consolidated console viewer workbench and a rule-based event management engine for you to normalize, filter, prioritize, and collate/suppress events from the stream of messages produced by all the monitored systems. You can integrate the BMC MainView Secure HMC license add-on with your Hardware Management Console (HMC). Use it to provide one-click HMC command interface to initiate HMC functions without having to remember complex commands. Eliminate operator interaction with the HMC web page. Audit tracks all commands from a secure environment where only authorized users can execute functions. How BMC Software uses MainView Console Management for zenterprise in our datacenters One of our goals was to provide secure remote console access to support lights out back-up data center operations for BMC. To achieve this, we have two servers, MVCM-SERVER-1 and MVCM-SERVER-2, connected to our Z10BC and Z196 mainframe processors. These servers are able to connect via IP to two OSA servers that define console addresses in the 3700/3800 range for MainView Console Management (MVCM) Consolidated Console Viewers. We have MVCM-SERVER-1 defined as the primary server accessing OSA addresses in the 3700 range. It is running our Production defined views of the z/os and z/vm farm. MVCM-SERVER-2 is our test/failover server accessing OSA addresses in the 3800 range. It is where we test new code fixes, and new rules and viewer definitions. Both MVCM-SERVER-1 and MVCM-SERVER-2 have console definitions for all of our LPARS (VM or MVS) and MVS guests running under VM.
