6 1 Overview This document describes how to compile snmpd and how to add new mib to snmp agent. This document will cover, How to make snmpd running on NBP1100 How to add new mib into snmp agent What to do next 2-2 -

7 2 How to make snmpd working on NBP1100 Invoke make menuconfig and customize kernel settings as follows, Networking Applications Include ucd snmpd. [*] ucd snmpd ucd snmpd are already ported to uclinux so that compilation and basic working has no problem. The one thing you need to check is using uclibc. ucd-snmpd need something defined in math library. Because old uclibc (uc-libc) does not have complete math function, it cause compilation error. After compile, copy snmpd binary into /romfs/bin, or other place which target can access and just run it. You can test SNMP features with MIB browser or snmp utilities which comes with ucd-snmp distribution. Basically working with ucd-snmp in NBP1100 is not differ from working with it in Linux platform. I recommend that you install the same version of ucd-snmp on PC and test with it

8 3 How to add new mib into snmp agent In this document, we will not describe how to working with ucd-snmp, just describe the steps what to do. After that you can get skeleton code for new mib and it can be compiled into snmp agent. But write code to interacting with real world data and mib is your job. There are handful of documents about this work with ucdsnmp (now net-snmp). Please refer other document for detail. At first, we describe how to working in PC, ad then how to make it working on NBP Preparing ucd-snmp on PC The version of ucd-snmp ported to uclinux is You can get the original source from Install it on PC is quite simple. After decompress, just do You can test it You can test the agent running on target also by changing localhost to the ip address of target. 3.2 Install perl externsion The next step, install perl extension, it need to generate skeleton code from new mib. 3.3 Get bug-fixed mib2c mib2c utility included in ucd-snmp has bug which do not generate complete source code. So you need to get it higher version of ucd-snmp where mib2c bug has been fixed. You can get ucd-snmp from After uncompress ucd-snmp copy local/mib2c* into ucd-snmp-4.1.2/local/. 3.4 Generate new extension code Now we describe how to add ieee802dot11 MIB by example Prepare new MIB file You can get IEEE802dot11 MIB file from Uncompress the file and copy IEEE802dot11-MIB.my into your MIB file directory which ucd-snmp uses. By default the directory is /usr/local/share/snmp/mibs

9 3.4.2 Generate skeleton code Go to you agent directory and make new directory for new code. In this example we create dot11 directory. Then for simple way, copy mib2c* files. Now, you can generate skeleton code, ieee802dot11 which typed after mib2c is MIB module name. It is described in MIB file. You can see following from IEEE802dot11.my file. mib2c searches directory with mib (by default, /usr/local/share/snmp/mibs) and find the module ieee802dot11 and generates skeleton code. Now you get ieee802dot11.c and ieee802dot11.h Edit skeleton code By now, it s time you add interface code between SNMP and real world. But in this document, just edit a little lines so that the code can be compiled into snmp agent for test. Edit ieee802dot11.h and add following line Edit ieee802dot11.c and change the code as follows Logically it s the same one but C language does not support string assignment Compile the extension into the agent Run configure again to include newly added module to be included. Test it again and see ieee802dot11 mibs are includes. 3.5 Integrate with uclinux on NBP1100 Integration is very simple. Just copy the source files tested on Linux PC and adjust makefile. You cannot use configure script for ucd-snmp on uclinux and you should edit several files manually Copy the source codes Copy the source codes, 5-5 -
