Lecture (05) PHP 01 By: Dr. Ahmed ElShafee ١ Dr. Ahmed ElShafee, ACU : Spring 2016, Web Programming intro PHP is server side scripting system PHP stands for "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor" Syntax based on Perl, Java, and C Very good for creating dynamic content Powerful, but somewhat risky! If you want to focus on one system for dynamic content, this is a good one to choose ٢

Php script Typically file ends in.php this is set by the web server configuration Separated in files with the <?php tag php commands can make up an entire file, or can be contained in html this is a choice. Program lines end in ";" or you get an error Server recognizes embedded script and executes Result is passed to browser, source isn't visible ٣ Variables Typed by context (but one can force type), so it's loose Begin with "$" Assigned by value $var1= "Bob"; $var2= $var1; ٤

$mr_coats = 10; $mrs_shoes = 25; We can then add up the coats and the shoes. You add up in PHP like this: $total_clothes = $mr_coats + $mrs_shoes; ٥ Putting Text into variables $coats1 = "Winter Coats"; notice the double quotation marks around our text. use single quotes instead of double Quotes $coats1 = 'Winter Coats'; ٦

Testing variables with PHP <html> <head> <title>outputting text</title> </head> <body> <?php print("it Worked!"); </body> </html> ٧ comments // TESTING VARIABLES /* TESTING VARIABLES Use this type of comment if you want to spill over to more than one line. Notice how the comment begin and end. /* ٨

Joining direct text and variable data The full stop (period or dot, to some) is used for this. <?php $first_number = 10; $direct_text = 'My variable contains the value of '; print ($direct_text. $first_number); > ٩ ١٠

Adding up in PHP To add up in PHP, the plus symbol (+) is used. <?php $first_number = 10; $second_number = 20; $sum_total = $first_number + $second_number; $direct_text = 'The two variables added together = '; print ($direct_text. $sum_total); > ١١ ١٢

Subtract, and Multiply <H2> subtraction</h2> <?php $first_number = 10; $second_number = 20; $third_number = 100; $sum_total = $third_number $second_number + $first_number; print ($sum_total); <H2> Multiplication</H2> <?php $first_number = 10; $second_number = 20; $third_number = 100; $sum_total = $third_number * $second_number * $first_number; print ($sum_total); ١٣ ١٤

PHP and division <?php $first_number = 10; $second_number = 20; $sum_total = $second_number / $first_number; print ($sum_total); > <?php $first_number = 10; $second_number = 20; $third_number = 100; $sum_total = $third_number $second_number / $first_number; print ($sum_total); > ١٥ ١٦

Floating point numbers <?php $first_number = 1.2; $second_number = 2.5; $sum_total = $second_number + $first_number; print ($sum_total); > ١٧ ١٨

Displaying images <?PHP print ("<IMG SRC =images/monkey.jpg height=50% width=50%>"); ١٩ ٢٠

If Statements <?PHP $cat_image = 1; $monkey_image = 0; if ($cat_image == 1) { print ("<IMG SRC =images/cat.jpg>"); { if ($monkey== 1) { print ("<IMG SRC =images/monkey.jpg>"); { > ٢١ ٢٢

if else Statements <?PHP $cat_image = 1; $monkey_image = 0; if ($cat_image == 1) { print ("<IMG SRC =images/cat.jpg>"); else { print ("<IMG SRC =images/monkey.jpg>"); ٢٣ ٢٤

If elseif else <?PHP $cat_image = 1; $monkey_image = 0; if ($cat_image == 1) { print ("<IMG SRC =images/cat.jpg>"); else if ($monkey_image == 1){ print ("<IMG SRC =images/monkey.jpg>"); else { print ("No value of 1 detected"); ٢٥ ٢٦

Comparison Operators ٢٧ <?PHP $correct_username = 'admin'; $what_visitor_typed = 'user'; if ($what_visitor_typed!= $correct_username) { print("you're not a valid user of this site!"); ٢٨

٢٩ <?PHP $correct_username = admin ; $what_visitor_typed = user ; if ($what_visitor_typed!= $correct_username) { print("you're not a valid user of this site!"); else { print("welcome back, friend!"); ٣٠

٣١ The Switch Statement <?php $picture = cat ; switch ($picture) { case cat : print( cat Picture'); print ("<IMG SRC =images/cat.jpg>"); break; case monkey': print( monkey Picture'); print ("<IMG SRC =images/monkey.jpg>"); break; { > ٣٢

٣٣ Logical Operators ٣٤

<?php $username ='user'; $password ='password'; if ($username =='user' && $password =='password') { print("welcome back!"); else { print("invalid Login Detected"); ٣٥ ٣٦

Boolean Values <?php $true_value = true; $false_value = false; print ("true_value = ". $true_value); print("<br>"); print (" false_value = ". $false_value); ٣٧ ٣٨

<?php $true_value = 1; $false_value = 0; print ("true_value = ". $true_value); print("<br>"); print (" false_value = ". $false_value); ٣٩ ٤٠

Operator Precedence a List ٤١ For Loops <?PHP $counter = 0; $start = 1; for($start=1; $start < 11; $start++) { $counter = $counter + 1; print $counter. "<BR>"; { > ٤٢

٤٣ <?PHP $times = 5; $start = 1; $end = 10; for($start; $start <= $end; $start++) { $answer = $start * $times; print $start. " multiplied by ". $times. " = ". $answer. "<BR>"; ٤٤

٤٥ While Loops <?PHP $counter = 1; while ($counter < 11) { print (" counter = ". $counter. "<BR>"); $counter++; ٤٦

٤٧ <?PHP $start = 1; $times = 2; $answer = 0; while ($start < 11) { $answer = $start * $times; print ($start. " times ". $times. " = ". $answer. "<BR>"); $start++; ٤٨

٤٩ Do While loops <?PHP $start = 1; $times = 2; $answer = 0; do { $answer = $start * $times; print ($start. " times ". $times. " = ". $answer. "<BR>"); $start++; while ($start < 11); ٥٠

٥١ The break statement <?PHP $Interrupts = true; $counter = 1; while ($counter < 11) { print(" counter = " + $counter + "<BR>"); if ($Interrupts == true) break; $counter++; ٥٢

٥٣ Thanks,.. See you next week (ISA), ٥٤
