7 1 Introduction The information in this manual covers the installation and operation of the MP-955IR I-Onyx Megapixel IP Bullet Camera. This camera should only be installed by a qualified technician using approved materials and wiring practices in accordance with the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70, state, and local electrical codes. Read these instructions thoroughly before beginning an installation. The MP-955IR I-Onyx Megapixel IP Camera is a powerful IP camera compatible for operation within a ViconNet (version 5 software) digital video management system. Offering the ability to deliver 1.3 megapixel resolution video across the network, the camera can be remotely managed and controlled from ViconNet NVRs, DVRs and Workstations. The camera is housed in an IP66 weatherproof housing. The unit provides IR illumination (24 LEDs) for use in no-light environments that allows the camera to light objects up to 98 ft (30 m). Equipped with a 100 Mbps LAN interface board, the camera allows direct plug-in to a network switch. Images received from the IP camera can be displayed, recorded or archived using the ViconNet management software. Megapixel cameras provide a higher resolution, which results in images with more detail and clarity. They also offer the ability to cover a larger area while maintaining the detail in the image. This provides the capability to digitally zoom further into the live or the recorded video without losing focus and pixelating. The camera comes with an accessory kit containing: 1. Two terminal blocks, 3-pin for power and 8-pin for audio/alarm connections (audio/alarm not supported by ViconNet ) VDC power adaptor mm/f1.4 megapixel fixed lens 4. Product CD

15 9 Camera Configuration The I-ONYX MP-955IR megapixel cameras are configured in a different way than other ViconNet cameras. Initial setup and configuration are NOT done through VNSetup software but through a Web Browser interface. These cameras will not show up on the ViconNet Setup Site Selection list. Note: If your camera network is an active DHCP server, the camera will be assigned a DHCP address. For initial configuration, connect the camera directly to the PC using a crossover cable or locally to bypass the DHCP server. Refer to Appendix for instructions on locating cameras with unknown IP addresses. Network Settings The default IP address of the MP-955IR camera is Make sure the IP camera and your PC are on the same network subnet mask (segment) before attempting to access the camera. Note: All cameras are factory set to the same default IP address; to avoid IP conflicts, only one camera can be connected and setup at a time. After a camera has been defined, another camera can be connected. You can use these settings on your computer network settings if needed: Enter the IP settings as below: IP address: xxx Subnet mask: (NOTE: xxx can be any number from 1 to 254 with the exception of 100.) Open Internet Explorer with the camera s IP address. Note: If your Web browser is earlier than Internet Explorer 6 (IE6), it is recommended to upgrade to IE6. Vicon recommends using Internet Explorer as the browser and cannot guarantee full functionality with any other browser.

16 10 Login Login with administrator s account and password and then click button. Note: Default administrator account is set to Admin; password is set to After logging in, an ActiveX pop-up will display. ActiveX is not required to configure the camera or for it to work in ViconNet, but it is required to view video through the browser. If you want to view video through the browser, install ActiveX at this time. The video will display. Preview the video. Select Quit to return to Configuration screen. Select Quit to close this screen and return to the Configuration screen.

17 Configuring the Camera The Configuration screen provides access to all the menus necessary to set up the camera. 11 WAN Settings Start with the WAN Setting menu to set the desired IP address. Click setting. button when finished with each IP Address: The default IP address is Set the address the camera will have on your ViconNet system Subnet Mask: The default subnet mask is Set the Subnet mask the camera will have on your ViconNet system ISP Gateway: You must set a Gateway address in the same subnet as your IP. Vicon recommends using 254 as the last octet. Consult your IT administrator as required. Be sure to correctly check either Dynamic IP Address (DHCP) or Static IP Address. Vicon recommends a Static IP Address. If a Dynamic IP Address is desired, refer to Appendix on how to use the IP Utility. Important: After the IP address is changed, be sure to keep a record of it; you will need it later in order to configure the camera in the ViconNet software. After all IP addresses have been set, the PC can be changed back to original settings if necessary. After setting all the cameras IP addresses, you can continue with camera configuration or exit and define the camera(s) later in the ViconNet system.

18 Host Settings Use the Host Setting screen to configure camera network information. 12 Enter the Host Name (camera name) and desired menu Language from the drop down list. Vicon recommends that AutoDetect be selected for the WAN Port. Set the HTTP Port to the desired port; Vicon recommends keeping the default port 80. Be sure to click button with each change. Date Settings Set the time and date using the Date Setting screen. Unlike ViconNet cameras, I-ONYX megapixel cameras do not synchronize time with the Nucleus. These must be set manually or synchronized to an external network time server. This screen allows you to synchronize the time and date with a network time server (if this option is selected, verify that the ViconNet Nucleus is also in sync with the same server). Select SNTP/NTP Server to synchronize. If you do not want to synchronize with a network time server, select Set Manually and enter the date and time. Select the correct Time Zone. Turn Daylight Saving time on (check box) or off; if on, select a date style (type) and enter the start and end dates for daylight saving time. Click button after settings are complete.

19 13 Video Settings Using the Video Setting screen, review the default video settings. The choice of settings in this menu has a direct impact on the video quality. Streaming Method is used to select how video is delivered to its destination; choose TCP Only for Unicast or Multicast Only for Multicast. Audio In must be set to Disabled (ViconNet does not currently support audio from these models). Resolution field is used to set the resolution of the images sent by the cameras. Choose from 1280x1024, 1280x720, 640x480, 320x240 or 160x120 in the drop down list. (A resolution of 1280x1024 has a maximum frame rate of 8 fps.) Note that the resolution setting must be set in the camera setup screen; currently ViconNet cannot alter video resolution. Frame Rate Mode (fps), how many frames can be compressed and transmitted per second, is set to Constant or Variable. When Constant is selected, every user receives video at the same rate; use variable to allow a variety of rates (through macro settings). If you wish to receive different FPS on different PCs or allow ViconNet to control FPS, set this value to variable. Encoder Type selects the type of compression, MPEG-4 or M-JPEG. This choice changes the menu; for M-JPEG mode, a Video Quality field (1-100) displays instead of Video Bitrate/Video Maximum Bitrate/Bitrate for MPEG-4. M-JPEG compression gives excellent picture quality, since each frame is transmitted individually; MPEG-4 provides better moving pictures at lower bandwitdth consumption. It is recommended to use MPEG-4. (Note: For use with ViconNet Virtual Matrix Controller, this must be set to M-JPEG.) Table 3 provides storage information for M-JPEG mode. Video Bitrate Mode options (MPEG-4 only) are Constant Bit Rate or Variable Bit Rate. If the Video Bitrate is set to variable, the Video Quality can only be set to Low, Middle or High; if it is set to constant, the Video Maximum Bitrate is selectable from 28 K - Unlimited. It is suggested that the Constant Bit Rate be selected, since it provides more exact control over the network. Select the Bitrate (MPEG-4/Unlimited Video Maximum Bitrate only), 28K 3M. Refer to Tables 1 and 2 that follow for guidelines in setting bitrate mode. For Serial Port, Video Control Port and Video Streaming Port fields, leave the default settings. These items are not applicable at this time. Click button when settings are complete.

36 30 Network Cable Caution: Careful selection of proper cable is essential to obtain the best performance. Vicon assumes no responsibility for poor performance when cables other than the recommended types, or equivalent, are used. Materials Use pure copper stranded conductors to obtain a low DC resistance. The preferred insulation and cable jacket is Polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It has better electrical characteristics than Polyethylene and resists flames, sunlight and most solvents, but is more vulnerable to moisture. Cable Types The most commonly used cable types are CAT5, CAT5e and CAT6. These category cables are best suited for Ethernet network applications. Choose a Belden cable type by referring to the characteristics listed below. The Table below should be used as a guideline when cables other than Belden are used. Materials and construction must follow the guidelines above. CABLE TYPE WIRE SIZE (AWG) INSULATION MATERIAL JACKET MATERIAL CATEGORY BANDWIDTH (MHz) MAXIMUM DISTANCE (ft/m) NUMBER OF TWISTED PAIRS Flourinated Belden 1624P 24 Ethylene Propylene Low Smoke PVC /100* 4 Belden 1583A 24 Polyolefin PVC 5e /100 4 Belden 1585A 24 Flourinated Ethylene Propylene PVC 5e /100 4 Belden 7883A 24 Polyolefin PVC /100 4 *For any cable in the system exceeding 300 ft (75 m), it is recommended to use Cat5e or higher to maintain good signal integrity.
