2 Dear Sirs, We have the pleasure to announce MATRIX 410, the new 2D imager upgrading and replacing MATRIX 400. MATRIX 410 makes a crucial jump ahead for performance and extended capabilities in respect to MATRIX 400, a product of enormous success and a consolidated benchmark in the marketplace. MATRIX 410 purely delivers valuable benefits, with no compromise. The full mechanical, electrical and functional compatibility is guaranteed, thus offering continuity to any existing application, for upgrade, replacements as well as for any efficient customer stock management. MATRIX 410 is powered by a new engine, a high speed industrial micro processor, optimized for image processing and Ethernet connectivity. The result is a superior barcode reading speed and robustness, especially for 2D codes; Ethernet on-chip changes the classic rules of images transferring, with a solid throughput improvement according to a 2 digits factor. MATRIX 410 will contribute to maintain and reinforce the success of this important product line in the marketplace. Furthermore, for the valuable advantages supported, MATRIX 410 will have a primary rule in catching new business opportunities, especially where demanding performance are the key to succeed. 3 Features and Benefits MATRIX 410, beyond the crucial speed increase, introduces new applicative functionalities; at the same time, a range of recently developed functions on the Matrix Line are definitively consolidated on the new platform. Extended Performance MATRIX 410 demonstrates aggressive performance, especially for 2D codes; in addition, the sensible improvement obtained on morphological filters enables effective results while facing with DPM applications. Here below a compare of the decoding times between the old and new platform on some real applicative samples: Shorter decoding time means higher tolerance to objects speed, stronger redundancy for multiple captures, freeing resources for image management and transfer. 4 The following technical extract reports the speed factor increases of MATRIX 410 referred to MATRIX 400, measured on a representative group of applicative cases: Typical Speed factor Increase Maximum Experienced Speed factor Increase 2D CODES D CODES 2 7 Morphological Filters 8 11 With such extreme performance, the decoding phase generally anticipates the next image acquisition, that translated is Real Time Decoding; more and more resources are so available to manage ancillary tasks, like image transfer or monitor, with no impact on the primary reading function. Integrated Ethernet on-chip MATRIX 410, thanks to the Ethernet hardware directly on-chip, strongly excels for throughput in data transfer; if compared to its predecessor, MATRIX 410 makes data running 20 times faster over the Ethernet. The high capacitance channel enables real time massive image transfer, even with a full working resolution. As reference, MATRIX 410 is capable to transmit over 4 SXGA (1.3 MP) images per second, while capturing and decoding at the normal rate. Working images efficiently helps in detecting possible reasons of low reading performance: the automatic saving, triggered on selectable events, is the best solution to catch rare and unexpected occurrences during huge production flow. 5 Remote Slave configuration The reader clustering is an effective function, strongly differentiating the Matrix Family in the competitive arena, for creating a single reading system through multiple devices. It offers the best modularity of the building block approach and always the optimal balance between price and performance. MATRIX 410 makes better the remote slave reader configuration, a new function enabling the reader parameter setup over an ID-NET link, where the network master acts as a gateway. This new function makes the system configuration and maintenance easier and efficient than before, the setup effort sensibly reduced. Decoding Libraries Upgrade Decoding Libraries has been upgraded with some new code symbologies; improvements have also been introduced to make decoding more strong and aggressive. MATRIX 410 has been equipped with the new decoding library for GS1 DataMatrix, in order to meet the new requirements in the pharmaceutical sector, that is progressively adopting this new 2D code type for traceability and anti-counterfeiting purposes. Moreover, decoding capabilities have been extended to Code32, MSI, Matrix2/5, new Standard 2/5, with the target to enlarge the range of applications in the pharmaceutical logistic, from traceability to automatic order fulfillment and verification. 6 Decoding Performance Improvements MATRIX 410 supports new optimizations for the decoding of high resolution 2D codes with standard parameter configuration. The new function allows to get the best performance in reading without any special setup and so it guarantees the optimal configuration is always applied to operate with the minimum PPE (pixel per element) supported. High resolution 2D codes are more than ever important in the manufacturing area. A relevant case is the Electronic Industry, where space constraints represent a major issue while marking components and circuit boards. The Quick and Robust option of the decoding module offers the maximum flexibility in meeting a wide variety of application requirements, allowing to always achieve the optimal balance between speed and accuracy. New Advantages in Tires Sorting MATRIX 410 is expected to deliver unmatched advantages in tire sorting applications. Tire applications present high throughput needs and tough barcode conditions: in tires labeling, driven by the constrained layout and available spaces, smaller codes in height even more adopted; and manufacturing treatments damage the quality of codes to very minimum levels. The over doubled computational rate of the new core and the new blue illumination combined with the new algorithms of code research inside the working image, makes MATRIX 410 the first-in-class solution in solving tire sorting needs. Programmable Transmission Line The Programmable Transmission Line is a new function mainly designed for typical T&L applications, where data synchronization is a key feature while scanning objects for barcodes on multiple side. MATRIX 410 offers wide flexibility of synchronization, based on digital inputs, timecontrol or space-basis, even managing the signal from a digital encoder. MATRIX 410 Product Announcement 6/13

7 OCR is cooming soon OCR function will be available on MATRIX 410 starting from February Driven often by new regulation or recommended practice aimed to extend the quality control and error proofing, the OCR function is growing for importance in many industries. OCR function will surely create new opportunities, primarily in Pharmaceutical industry, Food& Beverage and Document Handling. MATRIX 410 with OCR will represent an extremely simple and cost-effective solution, especially when compared to computer-based systems, for long the only available choice addressing these applicative requests. The service level is according to the price list; please note that during the early 3 months of introduction, the delivery time could be affected by slight delays.
