2 Rugged Machine Vision Advanced Digital Machine Vision Cameras INTRODUCTION This document details the setup and operation of the illunis GigE and USB3 cameras. 3 Hardware Overview The illunis GigE/USB3 camera hardware is a combination of the Camera Link subsystem and the Pleora NTx family embedded video interface. Please note the following important items: The control of the camera is the same as the Camera Link version. A Serial software bridge is created to provide control of the camera from the illunis GUI control program, through the Pleora Camera Link DLL (clserpte.dll), to the GigE/ USB3 camera. Camera trigger signals are applied to the NTx-GigE or NTx-U3, and passed to the camera. 4 Software Overview The illunis GigE/USB3 camera is based on the Pleora NTx family embedded video interface. The cameras are Vision compliant and operate by using the Pleora ebus SDK interface. This document is provided to help accelerate the installation and setup of the camera. 5 Software Overview Continued... First step is to install the EBUS SDK Please visit: Downloads: The installation tool will install the drivers for USB and GigE. The user can check by using the ebus driver Installation tool (under start menu -> programs -> Pleora). Please download and review : ebus_player_user_guide.pdf The next step is to install the illunis control application from: The following pages will illustrate setting up the camera and ebus player. The user will need to: 1. Power and connect the camera to computer. 2. Start the ebus player and connect to the camera. 3. Set the device control parameters = bit depth, raster size, pixel packing. 4. Set the Serial communication bridge to use the GUI application. 5. Run the GUI application and set the camera output parameters to match ebus. 6. Run the ebus player to view an image. illunis GigE/USB3 Page 5

9 Set the Device Control Parameters Set the raster to Width = 6576, Height = 4384 (29MP) Set the raster to Width = 10,000, Height = 7094 (71MP) Turn the TestPattern = off Set the SensorDigitationTaps = Two or Four Set the PixelFormat = Mono8 or Mono12Packed illunis GigE/USB3 Page 9

10 From the Tools menu select Serial Communication Bridge This will setup the camera communication path Select Camera Link DLL The GUI application communicates through the Camera Link DLL illunis GigE/USB3 Page 10

11 Run the illunis Camera Control Program This was installed earlier. A selection dialog will appear. Select the Pleora Bulk0 Interface This connects to the camera serial control interface. If the user has multiple capture devices, they will be enumerated in this dialog. illunis GigE/USB3 Page 11

13 Select the Exposure/Readout from the Modes menu The dialog will launch Select the Camera Output to the mode that was selected earlier. Set the other parameters such as Exposure and Modes illunis GigE/USB3 Page 13

14 From the ebus Player select Play This will start the imaging process If there is an image, the installation has been Successful! illunis GigE/USB3 Page 14

15 Notes: The illunis USB 3 camera must be connected to a USB 3 port. Check the device manager to make sure the USB 3 port is functioning correctly. Download the application UsbTreeView to debug the USB status. Make sure the Device Control and Camera Setup are correct, taps and bit depth are the same, and Read Mode is correct. Use the Digital Test Patterns to determine if data paths are functional. For the RMV Series, the frame rates vary by sensor size. Note that 4 tap 12 bit may exceed the GigE/USB3 bandwidth. Use dual tap, single tap, or lower the bit depth as necessary. illunis GigE/USB3 Page 15
