3 A public-private foundation which aims to commercialize the best of Danish Healthcare & ehealth Sundhed.dk International Foundation is an open construction with participation of public and private organizations and companies Was founded summer 2017 and functions according to set of articles The overall aim is to commercialize Danish experiences and products within Healthcare and ehealth The idea originated from the international interest in sundhed.dk, the National Danish ehealth portal

4 What can the foundation bring to the table? The idea is to bring an ecosystem and experience from both sides of the table to solve the task With access to proven commercial products and the end users the foundation can set the right team to solve the challenge Focus on the service, user journey and/or challenge to bring the right components into the equation rather than selling just one product, research rapport or similar Solid experience with large scale implementations of ehealth solutions

10 Today its one of the gems of Danish ehealth

11 The beginning Established in December 2004 Accessable through sundhed.dk First personalized service for both citizens and doctors on the ehealth portal And was very advanced from the beginning but usage was low and alot of paper was still involved. In 2006 the Recept server came online and eprescription really took shape!

Population 5,8 million people Pageviews by citizens January views The app: views Health professionals traffic on Sundhedsjournalen which include the medicine card January 2018 GPs Hospitals sessions sessions Add to this the use of the medicine modules that integrates directly into the medicine card. This handles most of the daily use.

19 Whats the point of it all?

21 No structured data on medication and you re in the dark! Who are making mistakes in the medication? Whats the quality of the prescriptions? Are citizens actually picking up the medicine? Are double ordinations a common problem? Is the medication plan for the citizens coordinated across sectors? Or even within the sectors? Do we have geografical or cultural differences in medicin usage across the country? Can we do telemedicine and empowerment without tools for the citizens? And much, much more.

22 Examples of gains and benefits No need for the paper prescriptions Pharmacy handouts are automaticly updated on the medication history of the patient and so is medicine given on discharge A huge variaty of research possibilities on top of the medicine card Real time planning of medicine logistics Vast increase in transparency for patient, health professionals and relatives A powerful dialogue tool between patient and doctor Easier to avoid interactions and/or wrong medication And much, much more.

23 How to build the medicine card?

24 Incremental approch - and lots of patience yet again The Danish medicine card was not a simple top-down project It was made using lots of components already in place We had challenges in almost every aspect you can think of Political Financial Technical Organizational Cultural Communications

27 Lessons Build it with respect of the current components in place Dont try to build it all at once Be prepared to redo things along the way Remember implementation Remember the users And most important:

28 Dont build a system! Build an ecosystem!

29 It allow you to respect organizational structures and governance A too rigid architecture will lock you in place Development will be tedious Innovation will be hampered The smallest changes will take very, very long Everything will be subject to long debates Its very hard to improve, and migrate away from again Put clinical and user needs in above IT dreams A solid product for the end users is a must
