2 Welcome to AT&T Getting Started Thank you for purchasing the AT&T USBConnect 900. Please use this Quickstart for a brief overview of new device setup and your DataConnect Pass activation OR take advantage of our interactive web tutorials at att.com/tutorials for the most complete and up-to-date device setup information. The online tutorial includes step-by-step instructions and an easy search function to find what you need quickly. Note: Your AT&T USBConnect 900 device comes with a pre-loaded SIM. 111Open the rotatable USB connector of the device. 222Insert the device into an available USB port. 333After inserting the device into your laptop for the first time, an installer will automatically begin to install AT&T Communication Manager (ACM). Follow the on screen prompts to complete the installation. 2 3

3 Activate Your DataConnect Pass Service Step 1: The AT&T Communication Manager will automatically open after installation and display the following window: Step 2. To activate your DataConnect Pass plan, click the OK button in the Mobile section. This will connect you to a secured web site where you can choose your preferred data package and activate your service. You will need a credit, debit or DataConnect Prepaid Mobile Broadband refill card to establish service. Step 3. Once your service is activated, you will receive confirmation that your service has started by /sms. The time/data you purchased starts counting down immediately after activation. Step 4. After receiving the confirmation, click the Connect button in the Mobile section in ACM to connect via the mobile network. Note: If you closed ACM for any reason during the activation process, please reopen it by clicking on the ACM icon on your desktop to use your service. You will receive and SMS reminders that your usage is expiring 30 minutes before your plan s expiration time and at selected points as your usage allowance is reduced. You can choose to purchase more time, add a refill or allow your package to expire. Once expired, you must return to att.com/buyasession to add a refill. If your account doesn t need to be refilled, you will see the standard connection screen after clicking on Internet Connection. Note: If for any reason you close the ACM, you can also always open it by clicking on the ACM icon on your desktop that is automatically placed there during the activation process. 4 5

4 AT&T Communication Manager AT&T Communication Manager is an application that lets you control connections to the AT&T mobile network, other mobile networks worldwide and to available Wi-Fi networks, including thousands of AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots. ACM will auto-install when you first plug the device into your laptop and works on both Microsoft Windows (Windows 7, Vista and XP) and Apple Macintosh (MacOS 10.4 and above). ACM offers a range of tools to manage connections, find the best connection available and connect quickly. Connection: Use this screen to choose between connecting to the Mobile AT&T Network or to a local Wi-Fi network in range Settings: Use this screen to display all the settings or to customize ACM to better meet your needs. Updates: Use this screen to control update alerts and the status of any installed updates. Connect Options ACM offers two easy ways to access the Internet. Choose a mobile connection to get on the AT&T mobile network or a Wi-Fi connection. Both are available from the main Connect screen. Your data usage through the Mobile network is tracked and part of your data plan. Data usage through Wi-Fi does not count against your AT&T data usage. Connect via Mobile network To get started, click the blue Connect button in the Mobile section. Once connected, launch your browser, or other Internet application. To disconnect, click the orange Disconnect button. Text Messages: Use this screen to send text messages or see sent or received messages. Contacts: Use this screen to view, add or shows a list of the numbers/names of those who you have sent or received text messages from, or allows you to add new numbers/names. 6 7

5 Manage data usage Connect via Wi-Fi To get started, select a Wi-Fi network in the Wi-Fi network list by clicking on it and then click the blue Connect button. Once connected, launch your browser, or other Internet application. To view available Wi-Fi networks click Refresh. To disconnect, click the orange Disconnect button. For all DataConnect plans, you can manage your wireless data usage by: Using your Internet service (DSL, Cable, etc.) and home Wi-Fi networks to connect while at home and in the office. Unlimited usage on AT&T s entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional charge. AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot will appear in the Wi-Fi network list when available. Wi-Fi enabled device required. Other restrictions apply. For more details and locations see attwifi.com. Note: Upon initial connection to the Internet, some of the software on your device may check for updates. Operating systems, virus protection software, and other software applications (i.e. tax software, itunes, etc.) may request permission to get updates or connect directly to ensure that you have the most current version on your device. Although such update checks are intended to be helpful, the updates can involve transferring a significant amount of data over your network connection. AT&T recommends that you control and monitor your usage to stay within your data plan limits. For large updates, AT&T recommends that you consider using Wi-Fi. 8 9

6 AT&T DataConnect Pass Terms of Service AT&T DataConnect Pass Plans ( Plan or Plans ) can only be used on AT&T s wireless network and cannot be used on another carrier s network, either domestic or international. Requires laptop or netbook with aircard/connect card capable of working on AT&T s wireless network; Internet access to sign-up; and a new SIM card. AT&T DataConnect Pass supports data usage only, and does not support SMS, MMS, or voice calls. Actual speed and coverage may vary. Time begins expiring immediately upon purchase, whether or not you are using the service. Once your time expires or the allotted megabytes are used, whichever occurs first, your data access will cease. AT&T may send alerts via SMS or to notify you of usage andor time remaining. Please note at the time you receive the alert, your actual usage or time may exceed the amount contained in the alert. These are courtesy alerts. There is no guarantee you will receive such alerts.
