6 Simple functionality for users and administrators Card authentication Users can authenticate on the device with a combination of ID and password, and proximity cards, or through the network using any preinstalled authentication method, such as Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) or SyncThru Admin 5. Users can self-register their proximity card directly on their device, easing the administrative burden on IT support. Because the user is at the printer at the time of printing, the risk of an unauthorized individual mistakenly or purposely removing the document is greatly reduced. Each print job is logged for later administrator review. Using the Admin Remote User Interface (RUI), administrators can control how documents are printed and specify how long jobs can be retained before being deleted. One option for straightforward printing is to program the device to automatically release stored print jobs upon user authentication. Job accounting Using SyncThru Admin 5 capabilities, administrators can investigate users job log history and create individual usage reports. From these reports, administrators can control usage permissions for each job processed by the device, and allocate print costs appropriately across the business. Figure 4. Each incoming print job is stored on the device s hard disk drive until its owner is logged in to the device using the ID and password or proximity card. When logged in, a user can release a job for print, store it or delete it. 6
