3 THE ALCATEL 1671 SC MULTISERVICE CROSS-CONNECT The Alcatel 1671 Service Connect (SC) is a next generation, multiservice cross-connect designed to support the growing demand for multiple services, including Ethernet and data aggregation. Engineered for speeds from DS1 to OC-192, the Alcatel 1671 SC goes beyond the traditional cross-connect functionality to provide extensive grooming capabilities to maximize the efficiency of the transport network. The innovative Alcatel 1671 SC provides unrivaled density (1,536 DS3 equivalents per system now, and will grow to 4,000) and a robust feature set, including wideband, broadband, and planned narrowband and data aggregation functionalities. aggregation point, efficiently bringing data and voice traffic flows onto the SONET optical network (see Figure 1).
