Timetables What is a mobile phone? The history of mobile phones The evolution of mobile phones Advantages and disadvantages Conclusion Bibliography
Introduction This work has been proposed in the context of English discipline. We chose this theme because we think that its history and evolution are interesting and because people nowadays are very dependent on them.
What is a mobile phone? A mobile phone is a communication device that uses electromagnetic waves (microwaves) to enable bidirectional transmission of voice and data usable in a geographic area divided into cells, each served by a transmitter/ receiver. The invention of the mobile phone occurred in 1947 at Bell Labs in the US.
The history of mobile phones In 1947, at the Bell Laboratories in the United States, it was developed a telephone system of high capacity, interconnected by several antennas, each antenna was considered as a cell. Hence the name "cell". Bell Laboratories
In 1956, the Swedish company Ericsson developed its first mobile phone, called MTA Ericsson (Mobile Telephony A). The Ericsson MTA, weighed about 40 pounds and it was designed to be installed in trunks of cars.
Between 1957 and 1961, Leonid Kupriyanovich, an engineer from Moscow, developed and presented a number of experimental models of handheld cell phones. The model presented in 1961 weighted only 70 g and could fit in the palm of the hand. Leonid Kupriyanovich
In 1965, the international exhibition Inforga-65, in Moscow, the Bulgarian company "Radioelektronika" presented the automatic mobile phone combined with a base station. The solutions used for this phone were based on a system developed by Kupriyanovich. A base station connected to a telephone line, could serve 10 to 15 customers. Inforga-65
The US company Motorola also developed its first phone model and, on April , in New York, they presented the DynaTAC 8000X11 model. The device was very simple, and it was 25 cm long and 7 cm wide, weighting about 1 pound. DynaTAC 8000X11
In 1979, the mobile phone became operational in Japan and Sweden. In 1983, it became operational in the United States.
In 1998 the Nokia engineers found a way to work around the uncomfortable problem that was the antenna. They designed a flat, plate-like antenna that could hide within the body of the mobile phone. The result was the Nokia This was the first mobile without external antenna. Nokia 8810
The evolution of mobile phones SRA / Ericsson MTA (Mobile Telephone System A) Year: 1956 Motorola DynaTAC 8000X Year: 1983 Qualities: small size, light.
The evolution of mobile phones Nokia Mobira Talkman Year: 1984 Qualities: Make long calls. Motorola MicroTAC Year: 1989 Qualities: First flip phone and first pocket phone.
The evolution of mobile phones Nokia 9000i Communicator Year: 1997 Qualities: First Nokia smartphone; connected to the internet. Nokia 8810 Year: 1998 Qualities: First phone without external antenna.
The evolution of mobile phones Sanyo SCP-5300 Year: 2002 Qualities: First phone with a camera and colorful screen. Motorola Razr V3 Year: 2004 Qualities: Compact format; elegant design.
The evolution of mobile phones Apple iphone Years: Qualities: Excellent software, touchscreen and access to apps. Iphone 3 Iphone 3G Iphone 3GS Iphone 4 Iphone 4S Iphone 5 Iphone 5C Iphone 5S Iphone 6
Advantages Facilitates Communication because it allows you to be contactable at any time, therefore, it alows an immediate communication. It allows you to connect with the Internet so you can always know news around the world. It s easy to use.
Disavantages It requires spending a lot of money, because mobile phones are expensive. It can lead to health problems because of radiation levels It may create dependence, because people use mobile phones all the time to be connected to the internet, play games, etc.
Conclusion With this work we learned a lot about mobile phones and their evolution. We also understudied that technology evolved a lot through out the years.
