5 . Introduction Purpose The purpose of this document is to define how Worldode functionality shall be implemented in a CDA handset. For CDA operators, a Worldode handset is defined as a handset that supports both CDA and GS air interfaces. A Worldode handset may be active on either a CDA system, a GS system, or both systems at one time (defined as simultaneous mode). For the purpose of this document, the Worldode handset defined herein may only be active on one system (CDA or GS), at any time (defined as non-simultaneous mode). This document defines how the air interfaces are managed on a Worldode handset to determine which system is active, and the user impacts of the underlying air interface. Included in this document is the recommended system selection requirements for Worldode as well as the GPP specifications which have been used to develop the various features of the GERAN protocol stack.. Scope This document is intended to be used by CDA operators as their Worldode requirements document. The target audiences for this document are CDA operators and handset vendors that are developing handsets that support CDA, as well as GS, air interfaces. This document details the requirements specific to Worldode functionality. This includes implementation of system selection, manual and automatic, between CDA and GS as well as the minimum requirements for GS/GPRS support. Functional requirements for CDA and various service enablers (such as WAP or S) are detailed in other GHRC requirements documents.. Conventions Shading indicates content that has been added or changed in this revision of the document.. Reference Documents Reference documents are referred to throughout this specification. 9 Global Handset Requirements for CDA - Worldmode Introduction 8. Terms and Definitions Four categories of requirements are established: () andatory (HD) Highly Desirable (O) Optional (D) Discard. Carrier Acceptance The handset must support that characteristic in order to achieve approval. It is highly desirable and recommended that the handset supports this characteristic. This feature may become andatory in subsequent versions of the document. Supporting this characteristic will be valued in the commercial promotion of the terminal. It is left up to the manufacturer whether or not the terminal supports this characteristic. The handset may support this characteristic. The manufacturer should not support this feature or function. The documentation and equipment that shall be delivered to the CDA000 x Operator for technical evaluation is detailed below... The Worldode handset must meet the carrier acceptance requirements specified in CDG Ref #90 CDG Ref #90 Additional requirements specific to carrier acceptance for Worldode are given as needed in the following sections. 9.. 10 Purpose. System Selection Requirements for Worldode Note: In this document CDA stands for X and xev-do air interfaces. Similarly GS stands for GS, GPRS and WCDA air interfaces. This chapter is intended to capture the Worldode system selection requirements of all operators. Having all operators using the same Worldode system selection requirements would help in providing a consistent user experience when roaming into GS networks. Using this document as-is will also provide operators and handset vendors with the maximum benefit that can be derived from the Worldode system selection testing.. Frequency Band/odes The frequency band support shall be as described below for both CDA and GS systems. Also refer to GPP doc C.S00-B. Table - CDA/GS Frequency Bands Technology Frequency (Hz) Category CDA IS-000/IS-9A, Band 800Hz (A and B bands) Class 0 CDA IS-000/IS-9A, Band Class 0 800Hz Korean Cellular (channel support 0-9) CDA IS-000/IS-9A, Band 900Hz Class CDA IS-000/IS-9A Band 0Hz Class / CDA IS-000/IS-9A Band 00Hz Class APS 800Hz (A and B bands) GS 00 0Hz GS 80 80Hz GS 900 (P-GS) 900Hz GS 900 (E-GS) 900Hz GS-R (R-GS) 900Hz GS DCS HZ GS PCS Hz Ref Doc. 09, v.0 June 00

Emergency calls shall be allowed on bands disabled in the For example, North American CDA operators may want to disable GS 80 and 900 bands.. Definitions Note: the term network is interchangeable with the term system throughout this document. The following section provides a description of the networks types, network modes, and system selection modes that are provided on a Worldode handset. The definitions of these network types, network modes, and system selection modes will be referred to throughout the remainder of the document. Requirements for each of these definitions are defined in 0. There are two network types a Worldode handset may use. Table - Definitions of network types Network Types CDA GS Description CDA stands for x and xevdo air interfaces GS stands for GS, GPRS, and WCDA air interfaces Additionally, there are two network modes a Worldode handset may use, that can utilize either network type. Table - Definitions of network modes Global Network odes Description The handset is not constrained to one network type, and can use either GS or CDA. If the network type the W S is operating on is CDA, the following selection modes are defined. Ref Doc. 09, v.0 June 00

12 Global Handset Requirements for CDA - Worldmode System Selection Requirements for Worldode Table - Definitions of CDA selection modes CDA Selection ode Automatic Home Only Description The handset selects the CDA system based on the PRL, and always selects the most preferred system. The handset only selects home CDA systems. Roaming systems are ignored. If the selected network type the W S is operating on is GS, the following selection modes are defined. Table - Definitions of GS selection modes GS Selection ode Automatic anual Description The handset selects a GS system based on the PLN list The user selects the GS system from a list of the available GS systems 8 When a device is in Global network mode, the device can be active on either the CDA or GS network. There are two selection modes available to the on Worldode S: Global anual and Global Automatic. These modes are defined as: 9 Table - Definitions of Global selection modes Global Selection ode Global Automatic Global anual Description The device selects the network type independent of user input. Requirements are defined in... The user selects the network type through either a software shortcut or a dedicated hard key. User Experience A primary objective of a Worldode handset is to make the user experience of roaming into GS networks as transparent as possible. In other words, a Worldode handset would provide a similar user experience (for services that are provided on both CDA as well as GS) regardless of whether the handset is roaming into a CDA or GS network. For system selection, this premise implies that the user should not be burdened with the need to perform additional operations, such as manually selecting the handset operating mode, upon switching from a CDA to a GS network, or vise versa. However, a Global Automatic system selection algorithm has not been developed and approved by members of GHRC; as a result, this document provides requirements for Global manual selection of CDA/GS system selection, as well as high level functionality of how a Global Automatic system selection algorithm should perform.
