Regina Ungerer eportuguêse coordinator eportuguese@who.int Collaborating Centres are institutions that have been helping WHO to deliver and implement its mandated work WHO Collaborating Centres Over 700 hundred research institutions, universities and academies there are WHOCC Over 80 countries They support the organization to achieve its goals in everything we do, WHO relies on the expertise of hundreds of WHO Collaborating Centres and thousand of the best brains in science, medicine, and public health Dr Margaret Chan, Director General of WHO What is South-South Cooperation? 1

2 Exchange of resources and knowledge among countries considered to be the "global south" North South Global South (social, political and economic divide) Global South It is a political, economic, environmental and technical collaboration among developing countries Objectives of South-South Cooperation Decrease social, economic and political dominance from countries of the North Bring local solutions to mainstream programmes Create a different world order South-South Cooperation It is a cooperation effort among countries of the global south born from the need to share experiences and initiatives based on a common objective. 6 Two Activity as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Global Health and South-South Collaboration Will support APPS though Support further development of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) in Portuguese speaking countries Assist the implementation of African Partnership for Patient Safety (APPS) in Portuguese-speaking countries Support APPS through PROQUALIS Created in 2009 as a collaborating centre for quality of care and patient safety Produces materials, translate selected papers Disseminate information and technologies in quality and patient safety through its portal It is an important asset as a wealth of resources Translate key APPS materials building on what has already been initiated by WHO eportuguese Programme Translate and maintain the Patient Safety (APPS) registration mechanism for hospital-to-hospital partnerships : 14 hospital-hospital partnerships Facilitate the identification of a Brazilian Hospital to be the arm for the African Partnerships for Patient Safety (APPS) Co-organize and host one patient safety partnership workshop involving the above south-south hospitals First wave,
