This means that employers decide on who gets training and what type of training may be needed for new and existing employees. 15 APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING INFORMATION SESSION Alberta s Apprenticeship and Industry training system is driven by a partnership between industry and government. Apprentices, trainers, employers and government work together to create a training system that is industry-focused, resulting in a highly skilled, internationally-competitive workforce. BIM LUNCH & LEARN This Lunch & Lean is an introductory session for those new to BIM. Topics of discussion will include What is BIM, how is it used, and how with BIM impact my company. DOING BUSINESS WITH THE CITY OF RED DEER These 1 hour session provide information on how to do business with The City of Red Deer. Businesses of all types are encouraged to attend. EMPLOYEMENT STANDARDS This seminar is an interactive session for front-line managers, supervisors or those involved in HR and payroll administration. Topics of discussion include but are not limited to: wages, overtime, vacation pay, general holiday pay and termination pay. A package of reference material is provided. FINANCIAL ANALYSIS UNDERSTANDING RATIOS, ANALYSIS AND MARGINS This topic focuses on the basics of reading and understanding internal financial statements. The discussion will include the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows, job costing and other concepts, as well as, financial ratios and more in-depth analysis. INSURANCE AND BONDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY This session will provide a detailed overview of how surety bonds are used by purchasers of construction, as well as provide a detailed overview of the prequalification process contractors applying for surety credit will be exposed to, and will provide a detailed overview of the information surety companies require to maintain a surety facility throughout each year. Also covering going through why surety is important and what happens when surety pays out. 15

16 OVERTIME & BANKED HOUR CHANGES TO THE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS - MAXIMIZING YOUR BOTTOM LINE While the changes to the Code related to overtime may be negatively impacting the bottom line, these changes may also present an opportunity to rethink how we do business. Thi9s seminar will challenge owners and operators to consider the true evidence-based value over overtime. 18 APPLIED CONSTRUCTION RISK MANAGEMENT The objective of this course is to provide an understanding and appreciation of construction claims, how they arise and how to prevent them. This will help participants reduce claims and maximize opportunities of resolving them amicably without turning into a dispute. Upon completion, participants will be able to actively prevent claims and minimize disputes. The practical approach of this workshop makes the participant s goal to reduce disputes much easier and more manageable. Performance Excellence Institute BLUEBEAM REVU BASICS Bluebeam Revu 2016: Basics teaches the fundamentals of using Bluebeam's award-winning software, Revu. This full-day training course provides the knowledge and skills to create, edit, markup, and collaborate on AEC documents using Revu Participants can choose to write an exam to become a Bluebeam Certified User. Curtek BLUEPRINT READING Knowing how to navigate through construction blueprints is a vital skill. This course focuses on how to read blueprints and specifications, tolerances, dimensions and terminology. Canadian Construction Institute CCA GUIDE TO CONTRACTS FOR THE SUB CONTRACTOR The Canadian Construction Association publishes standard documents for the Construction Industry. This is a half-day workshop on the various CCA Sub- Contracts with an emphasis on the roles and responsibilities of the Contractor, the Sub-Contractor and the Sub-Sub Contractor. Perry Educational Institue CONSTRUCTION 101 This course is designed to help Generals, Trade contractors, Buyers of Construction Services, Architectural and Engineering firms, new and existing administrative staff, become more knowledgeable about the basics of the construction industry. Engaged and contributing employees are the key to success. DSH Consulting CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATING The Estimating course is designed to learn how to develop and submit a construction bid. This is accomplished through a series of real world, hands-on exercises to understand the key issues at each stage of the estimating and bid process. 19 CONSTRUCTION LAW The Contract Law course is designed to teach and familiarize owners, managers, supervisors and project managers with construction contracts and contract law, liabilities and responsibilities both in the office and the field, compiling and submitting proper extras and claims, and ways and means for leaders to avoid conflict with contracts, owners, trades and labour. Includes a detail manual summarizing the course and documents used in the industry. Over 4,000 have taken this course since 1992 and it is updated each year. Canadian Construction Institute EARNED VALUE MANAGEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS Earned Value Management (EVM) is a project planning and control approach which provides cost and schedule performance measurements. It compares actual accomplishment of scheduled work and associated cost against an integrated schedule and budget plan. Its benefits include visibility into the true progress of the project work against the budget, projections of anticipated project schedule, and cost trends, and the ability to take timely corrective actions for undesired variances. EVM is one of the most powerful and productive concepts used in managing today's complex projects in private, commercial, and government environments. 20 SITE SCHEDULING The aim of this course is to provide tools for scheduling at the Site and Crew Level. Site Management (Superintendents, General Foreman and Foreman) influence millions of dollars in construction a year. They must ensure all resources are being used efficiently with minimum waste. Yet often, they receive very little in the way of training on how to plan and schedule field activities. 22 LEAN FOUNDATIONS This half day workshop is intended to dig into the principles of lean and thoroughly explore the relevance of both the philosophy and methodology of lean in the construction world. This session will train participants in foundational level tools and techniques to leverage collaborative thinking through engaging exercises. Ternion Results Inc. BuildForce Canada CONFINED SPACE SAFETY AWARENESS Confined spaces can be hazardous if not approached with an understanding of how to prepare for entry, how to enter and work safely, and what to do if an incidence occurs. This course will introduce you to the types of confined spaces and the associated hazards. You will learn about the activities within a confined space, and codes of practice. Different types of hazard controls are presented including engineering, administrative, and protective equipment. CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY ETHICS The Construction Industry Ethics course has been designed to help you understand ethics as it relates to the construction industry through practical examples of ethical decision making. The course contains interactive elements, case studies, practical examples, videos, and a course glossary. There is an in classroom Ethics course worth 1 Gold Seal Credit for a combined 3 total credits that will become mandatory to take the Gold Seal Exam commencing January 1, Earn 2 Gold Seal Credits With the Online Portion of This Course. BuildForce Canada Alberta Construction Safety Association CONSTRUCTION SAFETY TRAINING SYSTEM CSTS This course is designed for the individual worker and is offered only through elearning. The training is divided into separate modules that can be completed at your own pace, and the full program takes on average five to six hours to complete. This course gives a basic overview of various health and safety topics, and students are tested for 100% mastery of content. This program has become a pre-entry requirement for many construction industry work sites. Eligible For 5 Gold Seal Credits. BuildForce Canada FIRST LEVEL SUPERVISOR TRAINING PROGRAM Strong supervision skills are key to any construction project. This comprehensive online training program offers the critical skills and concepts needed to supervise a work team in the residential and non-residential construction sectors. The course uses scenarios, videos, quizzes and tests to reinforce the learning. INTRODUCTION TO BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING As Building Information Modeling (BIM) is adopted by more and more companies in the construction industry, its usefulness has expanded beyond the original design phase activities. This course positions BIM in the context of all phases of construction illustrating how to maximize BIM as a tool for the entire construction team. You will see how BIM fits into the construction workflow. It introduces the BIM philosophy in design, bidding, construction, commissioning, delivery, and as-built stages of construction. This Construction Safety Awareness course was developed by the construction industry as a national course to give you an overview and encourage a general awareness of the health and safety issues you ll be faced with on any worksite in Canada. 28 ALBERTA OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY (OH&S) *REVISED CONTENT LEGISLATION AWARENESS This is a one-day course designed to give participants a solid understanding of the basic structure of Alberta s Occupational Health and Safety legislation. Participants will learn to successfully locate information in the OHS Handbook by completing individual exercises and participating in group work. Each participant will receive an OHS Handbook as part of the course materials. ALBERTA TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL COURSE FIELD APPLICATION COURSE (ATTC) This two-day course provides information and resources for individuals developing, implementing, and monitoring traffic control strategies for the construction industry in Alberta. ALBERTA TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL COURSE FIELD APPLICATION COURSE (ATTC-FA) This one-day course provides participants with information regarding how to safely plan, erect, and dismantle temporary traffic control devices in Alberta. Flagger Train the Trainer certification is recommended as flagging procedures are not covered in this course. ALCOHOL & DRUGS: WORK SITE GUIDELINES (ADWG) *NEW This one-day course is designed to assist safety leaders and managers in developing policies and procedures to deal effectively with alcohol and drug issues in the workplace. The course examines the Model Alcohol and Drug Policy from the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace (Version 6). The course also looks at current issues surrounding medicinal use of cannabis and changes to legislation related to recreational cannabis. AUDITOR TRAINING PROGRAM (ATP-R) RECERTIFICATION ACSA Peer Auditors are required to take this one-day course every three years to maintain their auditor certification. This course will cover updates relating to any recent changes to the audit document and/or process, and will clarify any issues that auditors have encountered while evaluating health and safety programs. BASIC INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES (BIT) This two-day course is designed to provide participants with information on various instructional techniques that will assist them in their roles as mentors, trainers and facilitators within their organizations. During this course, participants will also gain practical experience in public speaking, presenting and instructing. COMMUNICATION & ETHICS FOR SAFETY LEADERS This two-day course id designed to provide participants with a foundation for effective communication as well as skills to navigate various ethical situations they may encounter as Safety Leaders in the field. CONFINED SPACE ENTRY/MONITOR COURSE (CSEM) (OSSA APPROVED) This one-day course is designed for workers who are required to enter and/ or monitor entry into restricted/confined spaces/ OSSA (Oil Sands Safety Association) Confined Space Entry/Monitor certification will be issued on the successful completion of classroom training and testing. This is not a Confined Space Rescue course. AUDITOR TRAINING PROGRAM (ATP) The Auditor Training Program is a three-day course designed for individuals who will be evaluating the effectiveness of a company s Health & Safety Program. Participants will be shown how quality audits reduce risk and incidents through a systems approach. This two-level program consists of a three-day course (Certificate of Completion) and Qualification Audit submission (Certified Peer Auditor Certificate). 28

29 FALL PROTECTION PLANNIG (FPP) This one-day course is designed to provide participants with information related to the common fall protection systems used in construction and to outline the basic requirements in a fall protection plan. This course does not have a hands-on (end-user) component. CONSTRUCTION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION COURSE (CSA) This one-day course is designed to provide participants with information about effectively managing and monitoring a construction Health and Safety Management System. This course summarizes and pulls together material from several other mandatory courses in the NCSO and HSA Programs. CONTRACTOR MANAGEMENT COURSE (CM) This one-day course is designed for owners, managers, administration, and safety personnel who are directly involved in the contractor management process. This course includes a basic contractor management process for small to medium sized companies that manage contractors or who work as contractors. EFFECTIVE CLAIMS MANAGEMENT COURSE (ECM) This two-day course is designed to assist companies in development of their post-injury management systems so the injured workers can return to work in a safe, beneficial, and timely manner. FALL PROTECTION END-USER This one-day course is designed for workers in the construction industry (industrial, commercial or residential) who work at heights. Participants will be provided with information regarding their legislated responsibility to know and understand what equipment is available to them and to know how to use various types of fall protection systems to prevent serious injury. This course is OSSA-approved FLAGGER TRAIN-THE-TRAINER COURSE This one-day course provides information about standardized flagging procedures for the construction industry in Alberta. Individuals who are exposed to traffic hazards created by vehicles and/or equipment at the work site would benefit from the information provided in this course. HAZARD MANAGEMENT COURSE This one-day course has been designed to help participants understand the components and application of a Hazard Management System. This course will review methods for hazard and risk assessment in the context of the Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation requirements. LEADERSHIP FOR SAFETY EXCELLENCE COURSE (LSE) This two-day course is designed to provide participants with tools to integrate into their daily activities to create and promote a healthy and safe working environment. Course materials are geared toward supervisory positions, yet beneficial to all. PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENT COURSE (PHSM) This two-day course is designed to help small and large employers develop and implement a health and safety program in to the workplace. The course includes a comprehensive step-by-step guide, with more than 40 free resources and workable templates. 29

30 SCAFFOLDING AWARENESS COURSE This one-day course is designed to provide participants with information relating to scaffolding systems commonly used in the construction industry. This course has been developed for industry and an awareness-level course only and does not have a hands-on (end-user) component. SILICA AWARENESS COURSE This one-day course is designed to increase awareness of the hazards, risks, and controls related to respirable crystalline silica in the construction industry. This course will benefit workers, supervisors, and safety personnel as employers and worker responsibilities regarding respirable crystalline silica are addressed. STANDARD FIRST AID WITH CPR-C-AED This 2-day course teaches first aid and CPR skills for adults, children and infants that can be applied at home and in the workplace. On successful completion, participants receive a national St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid certificate valid for 3 years and a CPC-C-AED certificate. Standard First Aid with CPR-C-AED meets first aid requirements for Canada Labour Code Standard First Aid, 2005 ILCOR BLS guidelines for First Aid, CPR and AED. TRANSPORTATION OF DANGEROUS GOODS (TDG) TRAIN-THE-TRAINER COURSE This one-day course is designed for individuals responsible for training workers who may be involved in transporting, handling, shipping, receiving, or supplying dangerous goods in the construction industry. The course is specifically focused on transport by road and does not cover TDG related to transport by air, marine, or rail. WORKING AROUND POWERED MOBILE EQUIPMENT (PME) *NEW This one day course is designed to increase awareness of the hazards associated with working around PME and the ways those hazards can be controlled. Workers, safety personnel, supervisors, and employers will all benefit from the completing this course. Incident reviews and case studies of actual incidents will provide all participants with better strategies to keep everyone safe when working around PME. WORKPLACE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INFORMATION SYSTEM 2015 TRAIN-THE-TRAINER COURSE (WHIMIS) This one-day course is designed for company trainers who are responsible for providing WHMIS worker education and site-specific training. WORKSITE INVESTIGATION BASICS COURSE (WIB) This one-day course is designed to provide the participant with the knowledge and skills to be able to analyze a basic worksite incident, determine incident causes, and complete an investigation report. The theory component of the course is completed in the morning session. The practical component of the course is completed during an investigation workshop in the afternoon session.
