1 HPE Recovery Manager Central User Guide Abstract This guide is intended for administrators who are responsible for primary storage data protection activities using HPE Recovery Manager Central The guide provides information on how to install, configure, and use HPE Recovery Manager Central with HPE 3PAR StoreServ, HPE StoreVirtual, and HPE StoreOnce. 8 Overview HPE Recovery Manager Central (RMC) software integrates HPE 3PAR StoreServ or HPE StoreVirtual primary storage with HPE StoreOnce backup systems to provide converged data protection that delivers assured recovery from application-consistent recovery points. NOTE: RMC supports the following two flavors of HPE StoreVirtual: HPE Hyper Converged 250 System and HPE StoreVirtual VSA. Backups to HPE StoreOnce are block-level copies of volumes, de-duplicated to save space. The backups can be used to restore back to the original or a different HPE 3PAR StoreServ array, even if the original base volume is lost. RMC enables you to replicate data from the source storage system to destination storage system, between HPE 3PAR StoreServ and HPE StoreVirtual platforms. The replication is based on point-in-time Snapshots. Features Easy and intuitive installation and deployment Preconfigured, ready to use appliance with simple installation wizard. Snapshots management You can create instant and rapid snapshots. Data protection with snapshots is faster when compared to other backup solutions. Remote snapshots A consistent copy of the data is readily available at the remote site. Efficient and fast backups The Express Protect feature enables a direct backup from HPE 3PAR StoreServ to HPE StoreOnce. Fast and efficient backups are created as RMC reads only the changed data during the backup. Data replication between Storage Systems RMC supports bidirectional replication between the Storage Systems, HPE 3PAR StoreServ, and HPE StoreVirtual. Element Recovery Technology The Element Recovery Technology provides instant access to the backups and granular restores. Extra tier of data protection Catalyst Copies allow you to efficiently replicate backups to multiple HPE StoreOnce Catalyst stores (local or remote). Application plug-ins RMC offers application integration through plug-ins and supports application-consistent data protection for Oracle database, Microsoft SQL server, and VMware vsphere. Simple management Intuitive, web-based GUI to configure and manage RMC. REST APIs for easy integration 8 Overview

9 REST APIs are available for all the features of RMC. Use the APIs to create custom automation of RMC features and for integration with other data protection solutions. Application plug-ins HPE Recovery Manager Central for VMware (RMC-V) allows VMware administrators to create application consistent snapshots and initiate rapid online recovery of VMs from the VMware vcenter Server virtualization management console. With the RMC Express Protect feature, you can back up and restore VM snapshots using HPE StoreOnce. Element Recovery Technology (ERT) enables recovery of an individual VM or files within a VM from an Express Protect backup on StoreOnce. For more information, see HPE Recovery Manager Central for VMware User Guide. HPE Recovery Manager Central for Microsoft SQL (RMC-S) allows SQL database administrators to protect Microsoft SQL instances and databases with application-consistent recovery points. HPE Recovery Manager Central for Oracle (RMC-O) allows Oracle database administrators to create, schedule, and manage snapshots on HPE 3PAR StoreServ. HPE Recovery Manager Central for SAP HANA (RMC-SH) is a data protection solution that provides rapid recovery from point-in-time snapshots of an SAP HANA database. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you read the chapter Understanding the security features and best practices of the RMC appliance. Application plug-ins 9

10 Licensing HPE 3PAR StoreServ licensing HPE 3PAR StoreServ arrays are delivered with an All Inclusive license. You need to purchase the RMC Application Suite License if you are using HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 Storage and HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage arrays. RMC license must be installed on the HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage Systems. The RMC instance checks the licenses on the storage array that is in use. For older HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 storage and HPE 3PAR StoreServ storage arrays, you have to purchase the RMC Application Suite license. The RMC Application Suite license covers licensing of RMC and all the RMC application plug-ins. This license has to be installed on HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage Systems. If you do no have the RMC Application Suite license, you can purchase individual application plug-in licenses. HPE StoreVirtual licensing All HPE StoreVirtual Storage Systems are shipped with preinstalled RMC license. NOTE: RMC does not allow users to install or delete RMC licenses. These licenses are directly installed on the HPE 3PAR StoreServ and HPE StoreVirtual Systems. For information on installing these licenses, see the HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage and HPE StoreVirtual Storage documentation. HPE StoreOnce licensing StoreOnce Catalyst license must be installed on HPE StoreOnce Backup systems. HPE RMC does not allow users to install or delete StoreOnce Catalyst license. This license is directly installed on the HPE StoreOnce Backup system. For information on installing this license, see the HPE StoreOnce documentation. License models supported by RMC The following types of licenses are available for RMC: RMC Application Suite license HPE StoreOnce Catalyst license Other licenses (applicable only to HPE 3PAR StoreServ): Virtual Copy Virtual Lock Remote Copy Thin provisioning Licenses required for RMC appliance to communicate with HPE 3PAR StoreServ and HPE StoreVirtual. Licenses required for RMC appliance to communicate with HPE StoreOnce. Virtual Copy license is required to create a snapshot of a volume. Virtual Lock license is required to enforce the retention period for a snapshot. Locking a volume, prevents the volume from being deleted intentionally or unintentionally before the retention period elapses. Remote Copy license is required for Remote Copy operations. Thin provisioning license is required for creating thin-provisioned volumes. NOTE: For more information on optional and mandatory licenses, see SPOCK. 10 Licensing

12 Installing HPE Recovery Manager Central The RMC installation wizard guides you through a set of screens with custom fields for installing RMC. Installation workflow Figure Installation workflow represents the RMC installation workflow and options. You can install RMC on either of the following: ESXi VMware vcenter NOTE: It is no longer a requirement for you to have vcenter to install RMC. The highlighted section (in green color) of Figure Installation workflow explains the RMC standalone installation. 12 Installing HPE Recovery Manager Central

14 Figure 2: Connectivity diagram for deploying RMC on VMware host The connectivity between HPE 3PAR StoreServ and RMC appliance for data traffic is either over: FC iscsi NOTE: For iscsi, the current release of RMC does not support HPE 3PAR StoreServ ports that are configured with a VLAN tag. The connectivity between HPE StoreVirtual and RMC appliance for data traffic is over iscsi. The connectivity between HPE StoreOnce and RMC appliance is over: CoFC (Catalyst Over Fibre Channel) NOTE: The first CoFC back up performed on an RMC instance sets the value of Number of Devices per Initiator Port to 64. In case you are modifying the value, you must manually reboot RMC for the modifications to take effect. If the required number of paths are not available and if you are manually changing this value, the changes may impact backup operations. If you are configuring additional FC ports for HPE StoreOnce, you have to configure Number of Devices per Initiator Port in the HPE StoreOnce Management Console. CoEthernet (Catalyst Over Ethernet) The connectivity between RMC, HPE 3PAR StoreServ, and HPE StoreOnce for management traffic is over IP. 15 Figure 3: Connectivity diagram for data replication The connectivity between HPE StoreVirtual and RMC appliance is over iscsi. RMC installation options Install: Installs a new instance of RMC VM. Upgrade: Performs RPM upgrade process. Prerequisites for installing RMC Ensure that your system meets the system requirements for installing RMC. Download RMC software from Software Depot. Extract the HPE RMC Installer ZIP file. Following are the contents of the ZIP file: Table 2: Installer files Installer files Number of files Description Application 1 Execution file RPM file 1 Required for upgrading VMDK file 3 Required for deploying RMC VM and StoreOnce VSA. MF file 3 OVF file 4 Required for deploying RMC through vcenter or ESXi. JSON file 1 Configuration file of the installer Ensure that all the files are extracted to the same folder. For a thick provisioned disk, ensure that a free space of 120 GB space is available. RMC installation options 15

16 NOTE: If a backup system is not configured with RMC, the system prompts to install an optional HPE StoreOnce VSA during RMC deployment. If you select VSA installation, ensure that: Additional 120GB is available for VSA deployment. The total storage requirement for VSA deployment is 240 GB. Ensure the availability of additional storage space if you utilize 1 TB storage space on VSA with RMC Express Protect feature. For FC deployments, your environment must meet the following requirements: All the FC HBAs required for FC-based backups or replication must be from the same vendor. Configure multipathing and follow the recommended zoning best practices to access Storage Systems and Backup Systems. For more information, see Fibre Channel connectivity. For iscsi deployments, your environment must meet the following requirements: HPE 3PAR StoreServ must be configured for iscsi. Assigned IP address for iscsi port must be reachable from the RMC appliance. Using the installation wizard to install RMC 1. In the extracted HPE RMC Installer folder, double click the HPE RMC Installer exe file. The introduction screen appears. 2. On the Introduction screen, click Next. 3. On the License Agreement screen, review the license agreement and if you agree, select I accept the terms of the License Agreement, and then click Next. 4. On the Deploy HPE Recovery Manager Central screen: a. Select HPE RMC Only (Install/Upgrade). NOTE: You can install RMC on either ESXi or on vcenter. It is no longer a requirement for you to have vcenter to install RMC only. b. Specify the following details of ESXi or vcenter: Hostname/IP address Username Password c. Click Next. 5. On the Install/Upgrade screen, select Install and then click Next. 6. On the ESXi Server and Datastore Selection screen, select an ESXi host and a datastore and then click Next. 7. On the RMC Configuration screen: a. Select a CPU and Memory Configuration. 16 Using the installation wizard to install RMC

17 NOTE: To increase the number of concurrent backups to HPE StoreOnce, select a higher CPU and memory configuration. To achieve maximum performance, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to use physical vcpus for deploying RMC VM. It is because if logical cores (hyperthreading) are enabled in the ESXi host, RMC installer considers only the physical cores while validating the selection. The RMC installer permits the selection only if physical cores of the total available vcpus are equal or more than the selection made. The CPU and Memory Configuration option of 2vCPU, 8GB vram can be used only to perform Snapshots. This configuration does not support Express Protects or replications. b. Specify RMC Hostname/VM name and Timezone. c. Specify login credentials for the RMC Admin user account. d. Click Next. 8. On the Network Configuration screen, select one of the following configurations and then click Next: Configuration Connections Management and Data Ports Single virtual NIC A Single virtual network interface is connected to Storage System and storage device. Virtual network interface for management operations, and FC interface for datapath. If using FC for data traffic, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends 8G or 16G physical HBA. Two virtual NIC Two virtual network interfaces are connected to two different subnets. Shared management and datapath. Assign two different port groups. Three virtual NIC Three virtual network interfaces are connected to three different subnets. Dedicated management interface and two datapath interfaces. Assign three different port groups. NOTE: If you select the Single virtual NIC option, the Network Interface Settings screen displays 3 NICs. Though additional NICs appear on-screen, these NICs are not configured. Ensure that you have configured NIC0 interface for your RMC appliance. 9. On the Network Interface Settings screen, specify the following details and then click Next: Field FQDN Network Port Description If enabled, RMC uses the specified FQDN for all operations. 18 Field Description Boot protocol DHCP: If selected, automatically provides IP address. Static: If selected, specify IP address and Subnet Mask. NOTE: Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to use Static. Default Gateway Preferred DNS Alternate DNS Search Domains The IPv4 gateway IP address. The IPv4 address of the DNS server If the preferred DNS times out, the alternate DNS is used. Specify the search domain. For example, lab.hpe.com 10. (Optional) On the Array Configuration screen, a. Specify the following Storage System details: Storage Type: Select HPE 3PAR StoreServ or HPE StoreVirtual. FQDN/IP address Username Password b. Click Add. c. Click Next. 11. (Optional) On the Backup System Configuration screen, a. Specify the following details of the Backup System (HPE StoreOnce): FQDN/IP address Username Password b. Click Add. c. Click Next. 12. On the Configure Remote Data Collection screen, specify the following details and then click Next: Table 3: Remote Data Collection Title Name Description General Settings General Settings If you select Yes, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and partners may contact you to discuss optimization options for your RMC appliance. Proxy Do you need a proxy server for Remote Data Collection? Protocol Select this option if network proxy is required to access the internet. Select the protocol used by the proxy server. 19 Address Port Proxy server authentication Specify IP address/host name of the proxy server. Specify the port used by the proxy server. Select this option if proxy server authentication is required. If selected, specify the proxy server log in credentials. Customer Information Address Phone Number Company Name First Name Last Name Country Username Password Specify your contact details. Advanced Remote Data Collection Level Select one of the following options: Passive (Recommended): The appliance automatically sends information to Hewlett Packard Enterprise. No Support (Not recommended): The appliance does not automatically send information to Hewlett Packard Enterprise. NOTE: All information collected from the RMC appliance is sent to the Enterprise server ( 13. On the Summary screen, review the details. a. Review the details and then click Next. Installation starts and the wizard shows the progress. b. Click Done. 14. (Optional) On the Diagnostics screen: a. Click Start Diagnostics. The wizard performs validation checks specific to services, hardware, Storage Systems, Backup Systems, Catalyst Copy, Element Recovery Technology, and remote appliances. The screen displays the health of deployed RMC. You can diagnose issues related to RMC components, and resolve the issues. b. Click Next. After RMC has successfully installed, you are prompted to install a trial version of HPE StoreOnce VSA. c. (Optional) If you want to install a 60-day trial version of HPE StoreOnce VSA, click Yes. 20 NOTE: You are prompted to install HPE StoreOnce VSA only if a Backup System is not already configured in step 11. You must not change the RMC user credentials before the completion of Storeonce VSA deployment. After the installation, the HPE StoreOnce VSA is registered with RMC and by default, a backup policy is created. 15. (Required for installing HPE StoreOnce VSA) On the StoreOnce VSA Deployment screen, select one of the following options: Basic: Provides an option for Quick and Easy deployment of StoreOnce VSA. HPE StoreOnce VSA is configured with DHCP IP address. If the DHCP IP address is unavailable, the installation fails. In this case, you can manually configure the network using the command net set wizard. Also, the HPE StoreOnce VSA is installed on the same ESXi server as that of RMC and with same network configuration. Specify HPE StoreOnce VM name and then click Next. Custom: Provide an option to customize VSA deployment by providing information such as, CPU and Memory configuration, ESXi and datastore selection. HPE StoreOnce VSA can be installed on the same ESXi server as that of RMC or on a different server. Specify the following details: Select a CPU and Memory Configuration. Specify HPE StoreOnce VM name. Select the timezone. Set the password for HPE StoreOnce VM. Click Next. Exit Installation: Exits HPE StoreOnce VSA installation. NOTE: If you have chosen the basic RMC configuration 2vCPU, 8GB vram, HPE StoreOnce VSA deployment continues, however the registration with RMC fails. This is because Express Protects are not supported with the basic configuration. You can manually increase resources in RMC and register HPE StoreOnce VSA to RMC. 16. (Required for custom installation of HPE StoreOnce VSA) On the ESXi Server and Datastore Selection screen, select an ESXi host and datastore and then click Next. 17. (Required for custom installation of HPE StoreOnce VSA) On the Network Interface Settings screen, specify the details in Network Interface Settings and then click Next. NOTE: The default Data and Management interface for VSA is network interface1 eth0. To use the interface eth1, use the HPE StoreOnce VSA command net set wizard. Ensure that the installer Host and vcenter server have access to the default Network Interface1 eth0 for deploying and configuring StoreOnce VSA. For more information, see the HPE StoreOnce VSA deployment and configuration guide. 18. On the Summary screen, review the details and then click Start. 21 Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to select the Thick Provision Lazy Zeroed disk format. In the case that you are using a thin-provisioned virtual disk, ensure that a space of 120GB is available on the datastore for RMC to use. If the datastore runs out of space, RMC may become unresponsive. If the number of available networks on your ESX server is less than three, the Network Mapping page displays the warning Multiple source networks are mapped to the host network: Network_name. You can ignore this warning and proceed with deploying the RMC OVF template. Installing RMC on Microsoft Hyper-V using the PowerShell Installer script Prerequisites Prerequisites Ensure that you have administrator privileges to install RMC on Hyper-V server. Ensure that the following components are configured on Hyper-V server: Network switch and a suitable adapter Virtual FC SAN and FC HBA To map multiple virtual N_Port IDs to a single physical FC N_port, vfc for RMC on Hyper-V host uses the existing N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) T11 standard. Ensure that you have NPIV enabled FC HBAs and FC switches for HPE 3PAR StoreServ FC communication and HPE StoreOnce CoFC connections to RMC. Install the latest version of HPE Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) with FC HBA driver and firmware. For more information, see SPOCK. On the Hyper-V host, install the following April 2017 Microsoft hotfixes or other latest rollups: For Windows Server KB For Windows Server 2012 R2 - KB Ensure that the Execution Policy is set to Unrestricted or Bypass. To check the current Execution Policy, use Get-ExecutionPolicy. You can set the policy using Set-ExecutionPolicy PowerShell Cmdlet. Download RMC-Hyper-V-Installer.zip file from Extract the ZIP file and copy the following contents to your Hyper-V server: About this task RMC-Hyper-V-Installer.zip rmc-4.0.0_vhd-<build number>_disk0.vhd.zip NOTE: RMC supports iscsi and vfc. RMC does not support Hyper-V Discrete Device Assignment (DDA) and Cluster features. Using the PowerShell Installer script, you cannot configure network, time zone and host name on Microsoft Hyper-V Server Core environments. 1. Extract the contents of the RMC-Hyper-V-Installer.zip file to Hyper-V server. 2. Run the PowerShell script using the command.\ RMC Hyper-V Installer.ps1. 3. Specify the directory path to RMC VHD ZIP file location. 4. Select the RMC VHD ZIP file from the list of available ZIP files in the specified directory. 5. 22 NOTE: Ensure that the specified directory does not exist on the server. The deployment script creates a directory with the name that you specified and copies the RMC system disk VHD file to create an RMC VM. 6. Specify a name for the RMC VM. 7. Configure RMC VM resources by choosing from a list of supported resource configurations. NOTE: The CPU and Memory Configuration option of 2vCPU, 8GB can be used only to perform Snapshots. This configuration does not support Express Protects or array to array peer copy replications. 8. Configure network interface eth0, specify Y. If you choose to configure the network after the installation, specify S. a. Choose the IP Configuration mode: DHCP or Static. b. Select the required VM switch from the list of available virtual switches on the Hyper-V host. 9. (Optional) Repeat step 8 for the network interfaces eth1 and eth Configure the default Gateway for RMC, specify Y. If you choose to configure the network after the installation, specify S. a. Specify Gateway in the format x.x. b. Specify Y. 11. Configure DNS server, specify Y. a. Specify IP address of the DNS server. b. (Optional) If you want to configure more than one DNS server, specify Y. 12. Specify a Hostname for RMC. If you choose to skip this step (specify S), the default hostname is assigned. 13. NOTE: For certain PowerShell versions on Windows Server 2012 R2, the Hyper-V RMC PowerShell script installer logs may not contain complete installation information due to a known issue with PowerShell Transcript cmdlets. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to capture the PowerShell screen output of any installation errors. In the case of an installation failure, contact your Hewlett Packard Enterprise representative and share the PowerShell screen output and logs for debugging and analysis. After installing RMC on Hyper-V, for FC connection, configure unique WWN and also follow the recommended zoning best practices. For more information on the best practices, see the SAN Design Reference Guide. 23 Configuring network using the console About this task To change the network configuration (if necessary), after the installation, log in to the RMC appliance console using the default user name (netconf) and password (netconf). From the RMC appliance console, configure the following using the CLI netconf option: IP configuration Network service restart Static routes NTP configuration Netconf password configuration Time zone configuration Manage Services To configure the settings: 1. Log in to the RMC appliance console using the default credentials netconf/netconf. The following screen appears: Figure 4: Netconf for configuration 2. Use Option <1> to configure the following: Modify netconf password NTP server Time zone Default gateway DNS configuration Static routes 3. Use Option <2> to configure or reset the network interfaces. 4. After configuring the NTP server, use option <s> to save the configuration and restart the network services. Enabling jumbo frames using the console About this task Enabling jumbo frames for larger Ethernet frames payload improves the network performance. All the devices on the network such as, Storage Systems, switches, hosts must be configured to enable jumbo frames. It helps in transferring frames that are larger than 1,500 bytes and hence avoids packet fragmentation or packet dropping. Configuring network using the console 23

24 When installing RMC on VMware, enable jumbo frames either on a vsphere distributed switch or vsphere standard switch and VMKernel adapter. When installing RMC on Microsoft Hyper-V, enable jumbo frames on physical and virtual network adapters using the Advanced tab in the network adapter properties. Set the required values, for example, Log in to the RMC appliance console using the default credentials netconf/netconf. 2. Use Option <2>. 3. Select the interface on which you want to enable jumbo frame. 4. Use Option <4> to enable the jumbo frame. 5. Specify a value in the range 1500 to Figure 5: Jumbo frames 6. Use Option <s> to save the configuration. Verifying network reachability using the console 1. Log in to the RMC appliance console using the default credentials netconf/netconf. 2. Use Option <3>. 3. Log in to the RMC appliance console using the default credentials netconf netconf. 2. In the Main menu, use Option <1>. 3. In the System wide configuration menu, use Option <8>. 4. To enable TLS v1.0, use Option <1>. 5. Use Option <s> to save the configuration. Upgrading RMC using the installation wizard Prerequisites Extract the HPE RMC Installer ZIP folder. Following are the contents of the ZIP file: Application RPM file VMDK file MF file OVF file JSON file Ensure that all the files are extracted to the same folder. Ensure that the RAM has a minimum free space of 1.2GB available for the installer. Enabling TLS v1.0 using the console 25

26 NOTE: If you are upgrading from RMC to RMC and using the CPU and Memory Configuration of 2vCPU, 8GB, then Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you configure the system to a higher value to perform Express Protects and replications. About this task Upgrade procedures 1. In the extracted HPE RMC Installer folder, double click the HPE RMC Installer exe file. The introduction screen appears. 2. On the Introduction screen, click Next. 3. On the License Agreement screen, review the license agreement and if you agree, select I accept the terms of the License Agreement, and then click Next. 4. On the Deploy HPE Recovery Manager Central screen: a. Select HPE RMC Only (Install/Upgrade). b. Specify the following details of vcenter: Hostname/IP address Username Password c. Click Next. 5. On the Install/Upgrade screen: a. Select Upgrade. b. Specify the following details of RMC: RMC Host/IP UserName Password c. Click Next. 6. On the Summary screen, review the details and then click Next. Upgrade starts and the wizard shows the progress. 7. On the Install/Upgrade Complete Summary screen, click Done. NOTE: After the upgrade, RMC does not automatically remove the extracted files. Fibre Channel connectivity RMC appliance supports Fibre Channel multipathing. Configuring multiple (redundant) Fibre Channel paths to the Storage Systems ensure effective path failover. For VMware, Fibre Channel connection to RMC is possible only through VMware VMDirectPath. To configure VMware VMDirectPath, see KB IMPORTANT: There may be issues while using the VMware VMDirectPath feature. For more information, click the customer advisory link. Fault tolerance during backup or restore operations, due to any path failure. Create Snapshots, Express Protect backups, and Catalyst Copies. Add users and assign roles. Schedule Snapshots and Express Protect backups. Schedule and configure Catalog Protection of the RMC appliance to network share or Catalyst store. Access all the features of RMC-S, RMC-O, and RMC-SH. Upgrade to the latest version of RMC. Restart or shut down the appliance. Replicate data between source Storage System and target Storage System. You can also schedule data replication. Generate a support ticket. Diagnose RMC issues by checking the status of subsystems. Logging in to the RMC GUI To access the RMC GUI: 1. Launch a web browser. For information about the supported web browsers, see SPOCK. 2. Protection policy is used to specify the properties common to all snapshots (expiration and retention times) and to associate it with more than one database. SAP HANA Hosts A host is the operating system that provides all the resources and services. Host in SAP HANA contains a name server, index server, and compile server. Databases Protection Policies SAP HANA database is also known as a system. A system is one or more instances with the same number. 40 Configuring Storage Devices Storage Devices in RMC represent primary storage (HPE 3PAR StoreServ or HPE StoreVirtual) and backup storage (HPE StoreOnce). Data can be replicated between the primary Storage Systems. Data replication is useful in following scenarios: Workload balancing between HPE 3PAR StoreServ or HPE StoreVirtual. Storage tiering solutions in DevOps and Cloud service provider environment. Remote office solution that spans primary Storage Systems with consolidation on HPE 3PAR StoreServ. The following topics explain the Storage Device configuration tasks. HPE Storage Systems You can add, edit, and delete a Storage System. You can also create Storage System Transport Protocol that connects a snapshot to RMC appliance when using an Express Protect or in data replication. Adding a Storage System About this task To add a Storage System: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Storage Systems. 2. Click +Add Storage System button or Add from the Actions menu. 3. Deleting a Storage System About this task Before deleting a Storage System, ensure that the dependent Snapshots, Recovery Sets, and Storage System Transport Protocols are removed. To delete a Storage System: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Storage Systems. 2. Select a Storage System from the master pane. 3. Click Delete from the Actions menu. 4. Click Yes, Delete. 42 Refreshing a Storage System About this task Refresh is used to update health status and license information of the Storage Systems. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to refresh Storage Systems after a firmware upgrade. To refresh a Storage System: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Storage Systems. 2. Select a Storage System from the master pane. 3. Click Refresh from the Actions menu. 4. Click Yes, Refresh. Storage System Transport Protocol (Storage Pool) About this task Storage System Transport Protocol enables RMC to use FC or iscsi to access the Storage Pools managed by the primary Storage System. In HPE 3PAR StoreServ, by default, both FC and iscsi protocols are created. HPE StoreVirtual supports only iscsi protocol. NOTE: Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you not to perform any actions on Storage System Transport Protocol. Delete the Storage System Transport Protocol only if you are deleting the Storage Systems. Ensure that there is no backup or restore in progress when adding or deleting Storage System Transport Protocol. If snapshots or backups that are created using Storage System Transport Protocol exist, then RMC does not allow you to delete the Storage System Transport Protocol unless the dependent snapshots or backups are removed. If you delete the Storage System Transport Protocol, your Express Protect backups might fail. To add a Storage System Transport protocol: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Storage Systems. 2. Select the Storage System for which you want to create a Storage System Transport Protocol. 3. Click Create Storage Protocol from the Actions pane. Set the physical quota when you are looking to partition the physical capacity of the appliance between the various users. As a result, the users who get a better de-duplication ratio are able to store more data. Allows you to set the logical quota when you are providing a service to back up a particular amount of user data. For example, you can set the quota when you internally charge customers per TB of user data protected. 5. Click Add. NOTE: If you use Physical Data Size Quota or Logical Data Size Quota feature in conjunction with Client-Permissions to control client access to the store, you can effectively define how much space a particular user is allowed to store or use on the HPE StoreOnce Backup System. The features are useful when a number of users are using the same system and you want to control how much disk space is available to individual users. If quota limits are enabled and the quota limit is reached, backups fail to prevent the quota from exceeding. If capacity management is required, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends configuring backup applications with quotas where applicable to reroute to another device or postponed backups to prevent backups from failing unexpectedly. 49 Configuring RMC resources After you have configured the Storage Devices, use the RMC GUI and configure the resources. Recovery Sets Recovery Set is a group of base volumes on which your application is hosted. Use the Recovery Sets page to manage the Recovery Sets. Creating a Recovery Set About this task To create a Recovery Set: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Recovery Sets. 2. Click +Recovery Sets or Add in the Actions menu. 3. Specify the following details in the Create Recovery Set(s) page: Title Name Description Type Create Recovery Set Select the type of Recovery Set that you want to create: Local creates Recovery Sets in the local Storage System. This option is selected by default. Remote creates Recovery Sets in a remote copy configuration. Remote Recovery Sets allow you to create Snapshot Sets on a remote array. Recovery Set Details Name Description Remove Oldest Snapshots Maximum Number of Snapshots (Required only for local Recovery Set) Remove Old Express Protects Specify a name for the Recovery Set. Specify a meaningful description. If the number of Snapshots created for the Recovery Set exceeds the maximum value, then the oldest snapshot is deleted. Indicates the maximum number of Snapshots that can be created for the Recovery Set. The field is enabled only if the Remove Oldest Snapshot check box is selected. Remote Appliances Remote Copy Groups (Required only for remote Recovery Set) Appliance IP/ Hostname (Required only for remote Recovery Set) Name IP address or host name of the remote appliance. Remote Copy is a collection of replication groups that contain Virtual Volumes. These replication groups are called Remote Copy groups. NOTE: Ensure that you do not prefix the remote volume name with the term Target. 4. Click Add. Detaching a Recovery Set About this task Detaching a Recovery Set unmaps the volumes (in Recovery Set) from the host. Detach is required to perform a restore operation. The option to detach a Recovery Set is available only when the Recovery Set is attached to at least one host. NOTE: Do not detach a Recovery Set unless you are performing a restore operation. To detach a Recovery Set: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Recovery Sets. 2. Select a Recovery Set from the master pane. The following details are displayed: Name Description Type Create At The name of the Snapshot or Express Protect. The description of the Snapshot or Express Protect. The type of Recovery Point - Snapshot or Express Protect. The date and time of creation. Restore The restore operation overwrites data in the volumes that are part of Snapshot Set. Before you restore, ensure that you stop all work loads on the volumes and detach the volumes from all hosts. After successful restore, application level recovery is required. To launch restore, click Restore link from the Restore Points table. Snapshots Sets Snapshot is a point-in-time copy of the base volume. Snapshot Sets are group-consistent (created simultaneously) copies of the volumes in the Recovery Sets. RMC allows you to create Snapshot sets for local Recovery Sets and remote Recovery Sets. Refresh is also used to update the health status and details of the attached Snapshot Sets. To refresh a Snapshot Set: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Snapshot Sets. 2. Select a Snapshot Set from the master pane and click Refresh from the Actions menu. 3. Click Yes, Refresh. Backup Policies Backup Policies specify the target Backup Stores and backup related attributes such as transport type, expiration time, number of streams. You can use a Backup Policy to create multiple Express Protects. Creating a Backup Policy About this task To create a Backup Policy: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Backup Policies. 2. Click +Backup Policy or select Add from the Actions menu and then specify the following details: Title Name Description General Policy Name Specify a name for the Backup Policy. Description Coeth IP Backup System Service Set Store Specify a meaningful description. Specify IP Address of the Node that hosts the Backup Store. For a single node, it is optional to fill this field, however it is mandatory for a multinode environment. Select a Backup System. Required for a multinode environment. Select a Service Set. The total concurrent streams backed-up for the Snapshot Set is 24. Use Catalyst over Fibre Channel (CoFC) Enable and then specify a Fibre channel identifier. NOTE: Required only if the datapath connectivity between RMC and HPE StoreOnce is FC. The fibre channel identifier is located in the Fibre Channel Settings tab in the HPE StoreOnce Management Console. Verify Storage System Transport Protocol Expiration Time (Hours) Retention Time (Hours) When enabled after a backup, RMC compares data in Snapshot Sets with the data in backups. Storage System Transport Protocol enables RMC to use FC or iscsi for data transfers with the primary Storage System. The backup expires after the expiration time. You can edit this field later, if necessary. You can delete a backup only after the retention time completes. You can only increase the retention time later, if necessary. 3. Click Add. 65 NOTE: You cannot create a Replication Set for volumes that reside on different domain CPGs. By default, data replication creates RAID0 volumes on the target Storage System. If required, you can change the RAID type using the Storage System GUI. Viewing Replication Set details The Replication Sets page (HPE Recovery Manager Central > Replication Sets) displays the details of the Replication Sets. The following views of the Replication Set details are available: Overview Storage System Volume Mapping Status History Lists the ID, description, replication time, and notification policy of the Replication Set. This view lists details of the source and target Storage Systems. This view lists all the volumes associated with the Replication Set. Lists the status of the previous five replications. Replicating data About this task You can initiate data replication using the Replicate Now option from the Replication Sets Actions tab or schedule replication by choosing a frequency. When you replicate data, RMC creates a set corresponding to the source with similar configurations on the target Storage System. To manually replicate data: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Replication Sets. 2. Select a Replication Set from the master pane and then click Replicate Now from the Actions menu. 3. At the prompt, click Yes, Replicate. NOTE: If restoring a Snapshot fails during replication, you have to manually restore from Snapshot Sets. Reconfiguring data About this task You can use the reconfigure option in the following cases: The number of volumes on the source and target Storage Systems are not the same. You have extended the volume size on source Storage System. 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Replication Sets. 2. Select a Replication Set from the master pane and then click Reconfigure from the Actions menu. 3. At the prompt, click Yes, reconfigure. Viewing Replication Set details 65

66 If new volumes are added to the source Recovery Set or if size of the existing volume is extended, RMC automatically performs reconfiguration in the successive replication. NOTE: If you have extended the volume size on the source Storage System: The first copy of that volume is always a full copy irrespective of the firmware on HPE 3PAR StoreServ. To view the extended volume size, click the Refresh icon. Deleting a Replication Set About this task You can delete a Replication Set only if it has no active replications in progress. A Replication Set cannot be deleted when a new Replication Set is being created. Deleting a Replication Set does not delete the volumes on the target Storage System, you have to manually delete the Recovery Set or volumes. 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Replication Sets. 2. Select a Replication Set from the master pane and then click Delete from the Actions menu. 3. At the prompt, click Yes, Delete. Express Protect Express Protect provides a second-tier of data protection with backup from HPE 3PAR StoreServ to HPE StoreOnce. Backups to HPE StoreOnce are block-level copies of volumes, de-duplicated to save space, and can be used to recover back to the original or a different HPE 3PAR StoreServ or HPE StoreVirtual, even if the original base volume is lost. Creating an Express Protect About this task To create an Express Protect backup: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Express Protect. 2. For example, In this case, incremental backup is performed for Snapshot 2, only if Snapshot1 and Backup1 are in the available state. Incremental backup performance depends on the data change between the current Snapshot and the ancestor Snapshot. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends the following points for incremental backups: Frequently perform backups. 68 Configuring RMC resources

69 Retain the most recent Snapshot and its backup. For example, In this case, if Snapshot 2 or Backup 2 is not available, the data change will be calculated between Snapshot 3 and Snapshot 1. Hence the backup performance may be slower than the performance when the most recent snapshot and backup were available for comparison. Managing concurrent backups RMC appliance allows you to submit only as many jobs as the VM supports. You can reconfigure the vcpu and vram of the RMC appliance so that the concurrent backup jobs complete faster. The incremental backup requires 2x data sessions when compared to a full backup. NOTE: RMC does not allow multiple backups for a Recovery Set. For more information on how many snapshots or catalyst sessions can be performed concurrently, see the QuickSpecs document. For optimal backup performance: Plan and schedule your backup jobs to ensure that at any point in time the number of data streams, is as shown in the table. Restoring Express Protect About this task To restore an Express Protect: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Express Protect. 2. Select an Express Protect from the master pane and then click Restore from the Actions menu. 3. Select a Destination. a. Parent Volume Restores to the parent volume. b. Other Recovery Set Restores data to the volumes in the Recovery Set selected from the drop-down list. c. New Snapshot Set In HPE 3PAR StoreServ, a READ-WRITE Snapshot Set is created on the original Recovery Set and data is written to it. NOTE: Ensure that the Recovery Set to which the Express Protect is being restored, is detached from all the hosts. 4. Click Restore. NOTE: If you restore data to a thin-provisioned volume on HPE StoreVirtual, then used and allocated space may exceed the actual space allocated to the backup volumes. You have to manually reclaim space to reduce the additional used space. For example, if you are using Windows 2012 server, use the following command to reclaim space: Optimize-Volume -DriverLetter <Drive_Letter> - ReTrim Express Protect Retry About this task Retries the failed Express Protect backups. For example, an Express Protect operation can be retried, if there are any individual failed backups. The retry operation backs up only the failed ones in the set. To use Express Protect Retry: 1. Express Protect ERT Element Recovery Technology (ERT) allows you to access Express Protect objects as READ-only entities from HPE StoreOnce Backup Systems. You can access an Express Protect on any host over iscsi by mounting the volumes on a client system. Attaching Express Protect About this task To attach an Express Protect directly from StoreOnce to any host: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Express Protect. 2. Select an Express Protect from the master pane and then click Attach from the Actions menu. 3. Specify the iscsi initiator name and then click Attach. After attaching the Express Protect, perform the following to manually discover the iscsi device: 1. On the Linux host, install iscsi-initiator-utils. 2. The roles created in RMC are: Admin The administrator has all the privileges for monitoring and managing the RMC appliance. Members Members have only view privileges and cannot perform any other task. To view the roles page, select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Roles. Remote Appliance Registering the RMC appliance is a prerequisite for performing any Remote Copy operations. If you have configured a single RMC, you can register the same RMC as the remote appliance. You can only edit the remote appliance user credentials using RMC GUI. Registering a remote appliance About this task To register a remote appliance: 1. 79 Catalog Protection Catalog Protection helps in scheduling the RMC catalog backups. If RMC is down and permanently unavailable, you can deploy a new RMC and restore the backed-up catalogs. Catalog protection is a scheduled export configuration. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to schedule daily catalog protections. The Catalog Protection page provides the following options: Configuring Catalog creates Catalog Protection. Restoring Catalog restores the already protected Catalog. Catalog Protection features The RMC configuration can be protected by backing up the configuration data on to a shared location or HPE StoreOnce. This operation can be scheduled. RMC permits configuring protection against NAS share base location. Data can be written on all shared file protocols, such as NFS and CIFS. In a NAS share, all remote shares or directories must have read and write permissions and be mountable on Linux client. NFS-based mounts do not require credentials. In CIFS, the credentials are optional and must be verified if they are required for share access. Scheduler can be used in Catalog Protection for hourly, daily, weekly, monthly on Network Share and HPE StoreOnce Catalyst Store. Catalog Protection system firewall The RMC appliance has an HPE firewall running. Usually, CIFS servers are active on port 445 and NFS servers active on some predefined or default ports. Considering HPE StoreOnce NFS, HPE StoreOnce CIFS, and Windows CIFS server-based shares, HPE firewall permits outbound communication. Port configurations for NFS at the server side are done in /etc/sysconfig/nfs. The NFS server by default binds itself to dynamically picked ports. Generally, users can also configure NFS to run on dedicated ports. For more information, see table Port list classification. The appliance firewall permits outbound traffic for the following ports: 111, 445, 662, 875, 892, 2049, 12206, 12204, 12205, 12202, 12203, 2020, 32803, Port list classification Catalog Protection 79

Configuring protection for already protected RMC on the same shares are not permitted. Data is written to remote NAS shares after the local RMC system mounts them on local. Be sure that the remote share or catalyst server is reachable. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that the network location on NAS or HPE StoreOnce Catalyst Store is reachable within 30 seconds. Mounting and authenticating NAS shares: User credentials do not affect the protocols. The primary requirement for mounting NAS/NFS shares is that they must be reachable/mountable. The NFS-based protection is primarily focused on NFS shares that do not need credentials. Hence, the login credentials field does not appear in NFS shares. NFSv2 and NFSv3 permissions are oriented towards client systems and not to users. The NAS/CIFS shares may or may not have user credentials and associated users may or may not be part of the domain. For CIFS, the authentication supported method is NTLM. Media requiring clients to mount using Kerberos authentication is not supported. Remote CIFS shares mounting is tried against multiple mount security mode options, except for Kerberos (not supported) base security modes. On deletion of a configuration, the physical data on the remote shares or stores is not removed or deleted. Only the catalog configuration and associated schedule configuration is deleted in RMC. The following guidelines are recommended after catalog import process is completed: Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends rebooting the RMC appliance. Verify the imported data. After import of data, you must fix some issues with data references. For example, data references include Backup System details, Storage System details, Schedules in general, credentials. Data references depend on the age of the catalog used for restore or in site recovery or network topology changes. Some imported data must be fixed if there is a change in the IP address. Ensure that the network configuration is accurate post restore. For example, by logging in to the CLI as netconf. At the interface server and linked production server (at interface server), few references must be modified. For more information, see the Troubleshooting section in the HPE Recovery Manager Central for Microsoft SQL User Guide. If necessary, verify, modify, or reconfigure the Catalog Protection schedules. Restore Guidelines 85

86 NOTE: After the Catalog import process has completed, a set of Catalog Protection tasks are displayed in the Activity page. The tasks are marked with the status terminated though both import and restart of services have completed successfully. You can ignore this task status. Importing Catalog protected data 1. To refresh protection details: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Catalog Protection. 2. Select a configuration and click Refresh from the Actions menu. 3. To refresh the displayed data, click Yes, Refresh. notifications RMC enables you to receive notifications over for the create, delete, and restore operations that you perform on the resources. Also, you can choose to receive notifications either only for error, or generic information, or both. The RMC notifications support both SSL and non-ssl-based SMTP server configurations. Password authentication is optional in both the cases. If you have configured the SMTP server for authenticating the password credentials, specify the password of the sender ID. Generating a ticket takes few minutes and only after that, you can see the ticket ID on the GUI page. The generated ticket contains all the necessary logs. NOTE: Ensure that your browser security settings allow files to be transferred from the RMC appliance to your host machine. Generating a support ticket 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Settings. 2. Click Support Ticket from the Actions menu. Actions 89

After the operation is completed, an archive file is generated, which can be used for import operation. Importing a configuration file About this task All export configuration details that are exported to a file, can be imported to the appliance. Importing a new configuration file, will overwrite the existing RMC Catalog. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you take a backup of the existing RMC Catalog, before importing the configuration file. NOTE: Before you start importing a configuration file, ensure that there are no active operations. If any, then wait for the operations to complete. After the configuration importing has started, you cannot perform any other operation on the appliance. Wait until the entire operation is complete. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends rebooting the appliance, after the import has completed from Settings > Actions > Import Configuration. 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Settings. Click Import Configuration from the Action menu. 2. Browse and select the file and click Import. The message Importing Configuration appears. After successfully completing the task, the message The configuration is imported this will take few minutes. Please close this page and login again appears. Shutting down the appliance About this task Use the following procedure to shut down the appliance. Prerequisites Ensure that all tasks are completed and that all other users are logged off. Shutting down the appliance 1. From the Settings screen, select Actions > Shutdown Appliance. 2. Select Yes, Shutdown in the dialog box. NOTE: If there are no active operations, then the button label is Yes, Shutdown, else the button label is Yes, Force Shutdown. Restarting the appliance About this task Use this procedure to restart the RMC appliance. After the appliance has restarted, the login screen appears. Restarting the appliance Importing a configuration file 91

92 1. From the Settings screen, select Actions > Restart Appliance. 2. Select Yes, Reboot in the dialog box. 3. Log in when the login screen reappears. NOTE: If there are no active operations, then the button label is Yes, Reboot, else the button label is Force, Reboot. Upgrading the appliance Use this procedure to upgrade the appliance from one version to another. To perform the upgrade, the master RPM file is required. RMC validates the RPM file and then upgrades the appliance. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to export the configuration before upgrading. Use the Import Configuration / Export Configuration feature. NOTE: During the upgrade, you cannot perform any operation on the appliance. After the appliance is upgraded, the system restarts. Clear the browser cache and history. Do not restart the RMC appliance when the upgrade is in progress. If RMC detects any active operations during the upgrade, you are prompted to continue or cancel the upgrade process. Continuing the upgrade terminates the active operations. Ensure that a minimum free space of 1.2GB is available on the system for RPM upload. Upgrading RMC Appliance 1. Download the master.rpm image file. 2. Log in to HPE Recovery Manager Central. 3. 93 The message Upgrading the appliance appears. The appliance upgrade will complete based on your system configuration. IMPORTANT: The VM tty1 terminal displays progress of the upgrade. The upgrade process takes minutes to complete, do not restart your system during the process. After the upgrade is complete, the system reboots automatically. Verifying the upgrade To verify if the appliance is upgraded, select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Settings. In the General section, the RMC Software Revision must display Figure 30: Upgrade Appliance verification NOTE: Though you cannot upgrade RMC from or to 4.0.0, the GUI displays the upgrade progress. For more information, check the message on RMC console. For the list of versions from which you can upgrade to RMC 4.0.0, see SPOCK. To upgrade to RMC 4.0.0, you can use Chrome or Firefox web browsers. Internet Explorer does not support RMC upgrade. For information about the web browsers and their supported versions, see SPOCK. Web SSL Certificate for RMC The HTTP connection between RMC GUI and server is secured over SSL. A Secure connection is created using HTTP SSL certificates, that prove the identity of a server or an application. You can generate certificates from the RMC GUI or request certificates for RMC from a trusted certification authority (CA). To get certificates from a CA, you have to go through the Certificate Signing process. You must upload the certificate you generated offline or obtained from a CA to the RMC GUI. Only on the first boot of RMC, an SSL certificate is internally created. Using the Web SSL Certificate option on RMC GUI, you can perform the following tasks: Web SSL Certificate for RMC 93

Only on successful verification, RMC allows installation of the certificates. General guidelines for using SSL certificates Hewlett Packard recommends you to clear the browser cache after you apply a certificate on the server. This is because, at times, the Google Chrome browser does not clear or manage local cache, the browse cache may contain references to old certificates. When a new web certificate is applied on the appliance, the browser fails to fetch the new certificate and therefore the login fails. When uploading a certificate that you created offline, ensure that the.key file is not passphrase protected. If the browser does not identify the CA that issued the certificate, when viewing the certificate on the browser, the Certificate Invalid error is displayed. You can ignore this error message if the certificate is issued by a renowned CA. Diagnosing the problems About this task You can diagnose any RMC issues by checking the status of subsystems in the Diagnostics page. To run the diagnostics: 1. Select HPE Recovery Manager Central > Settings > Diagnostics 2. Click Start Diagnostics The Diagnostic Check window displays the status of the following: Storage system Remote copy StoreOnce Hardware Services VMware vcenter 3. To continue using the GUI while the diagnostics is in progress, click Run in background. 4. To download the diagnostics report, click Export. Diagnosing the problems 97

98 Remote Data Collection About this task Depending on your Remote Data Collection configuration, RMC sends configuration information such as usage data, incremental log information to Hewlett Packard Enterprise. This information is used for analysis and troubleshooting issues. 1. Log in to the RMC GUI using the default credentials (Admin admin), the following screen appears: NOTE: If you have already configured the Remote Data Collection feature using installation wizard, this screen does not appear on your first login to RMC. 2. Enterprise Server: This is the Hewlett Packard Enterprise server that receives information from your RMC appliance. External firewall requirements The simplest way to configure your RMC appliance for Remote Data Collection is to enable all outbound traffic on port 443. This configuration enables transfer of support files to Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The RMC appliance itself is only configured to talk to known Hewlett Packard Enterprise sites with valid SSL certificates. All communications to Hewlett Packard Enterprise Remote Data Collection are facilitated using HTTP Secure (HTTPS) over TLS 1.2. It ensures that all communications to Hewlett Packard Enterprise are protected from malicious hackers. The TLS 1.2 protocol uses public key cryptography and mutual client and server authentication to provide confidentiality, message integrity, and authentication for traffic passed over the web. If all outbound traffic on port 443 cannot be configured, all the following IP addresses need to be opened on port 443. Following this guide should allow the proper connectivity to Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The dashboard dynamically represents the total number of resources and number of resources in each health status. Dashboard The Dashboard provides a graphical representation of the general health status of RMC resources, associated activities, and the application plug-ins. Navigate to a specific page using the donut graph. For example, if you click the green portion of Snapshot Set donut, you are navigated to the Snapshot Set page that lists only the available Snapshot Sets. Dashboard screen details The resource-specific donut graphs on the dashboard displays: Total number of resources. The resource statuses. Number of resources in each state. For example, the Snapshot Set donut graph displays the total number of Snapshot Sets, their statuses, and the number of Snapshots in each state. Interpreting Donut colors The colors of the donut graph represent the status of the resources: Color Green Red Gray Black Indication A healthy status. A critical condition that requires your immediate attention. The resources are in an unknown state. Resource instances reporting status other than OK, Warning, or Critical. For example, Disabled or Unknown. Personalizing the Dashboard About this task To personalize the Dashboard: 1. Click Personalize on the main window. 2. 108 Understanding the security features and best practices of the RMC appliance This chapter explains the best practices for maintaining and securing the appliance. Securing the appliance The following factors secured (hardened) the appliance and its operating system: Best practice operating system security guidelines were followed. The appliance operating system minimizes its vulnerability by running only the services required to provide the functionality. The appliance operating system enforces mandatory access controls internally. The appliance maintains a firewall that allows traffic on specific ports and blocks all unused ports. For more information, see Ports needed for RMC. Make sure that the key appliance services run only with the required privileges; they do not run as privileged users. The appliance is designed to operate entirely on an isolated management LAN. Access to the production LAN is not required. The default credentials for first-time login are: Table 8: Default credentials User name Password Admin admin The appliance enforces a password change at first login. The default password cannot be used again. The appliance supports self-signed certificates. All browser operations and REST API calls use HTTPS. All weak Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) ciphers are disabled. The appliance supports secure updating. HPE digitally signs all updates to ensure integrity and authenticity. Configuration exports are encrypted. If the administrator user password is lost or forgotten, contact your Hewlett Packard Enterprise support representative to obtain password for HPresetpassword account. Best practices for maintaining a secure appliance The following is a partial list of security best practices that Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends in both physical and virtual environments. Differing security policies and implementation practices make it difficult to provide a complete and definitive list. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends a strict separation of the management LAN and production LAN, using VLAN or firewall technology or both to maintain the separation: Management LAN All management processor devices (including Onboard Administrators and virtual connections through an Onboard Administrator, ilos, and ipdus) are connected to the management LAN. 108 Understanding the security features and best practices of the RMC appliance

109 Grant management LAN access to authorized personnel only, such as Infrastructure administrators, Network administrators, and Server administrators. Production LAN All NICs for managed devices are on the production LAN. The appliance is preconfigured so that the nonessential services are removed or disabled in the management environment. Ensure that a process is in place to determine if software and firmware updates are available, and to install updates for all components in your environment on a regular basis. Ensure that the security policies and processes address the virtual environment: Educate administrators about changes to their roles and responsibilities in a virtual environment. Restrict access to the appliance GUI to authorized users. If you use an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) solution in your environment, ensure that the solution has visibility into network traffic in the virtual switch. To reduce the effect on VLAN traffic sniffing, turn off promiscuous mode in the hypervisor and encrypt the traffic over the VLAN. NOTE: Usually, if promiscuous mode is disabled in the hypervisor, it cannot be used on a Virtual Machine (VM) guest. The VM guest can enable promiscuous mode however, it will not be functional. Maintain a zone of trust, for example, a DMZ (demilitarized zone) that is separate from production machines. Ensure appropriate access controls on Fibre Channel devices. Use LUN masking on both storage and compute hosts. Ensure that LUNs are defined in the host configuration, instead of being discovered. Use hard zoning (which restricts communication across a fabric) based on port Worldwide Names (WWNs), if possible. Ensure that communication with the WWNs is enforced at the switch-port level. Clearly define and use administrative roles and responsibilities. For local accounts on the appliance, change the passwords periodically according to your password policies. Follow these guidelines: Limit the number of local accounts. Ensure that passwords include at least three of these types of characters: Numeric character Lowercase alphabetic character Uppercase alphabetic character Special character Do not connect management systems (for example, the appliance, the ilo card, and Onboard Administrator) directly to the Internet. If you require access to the Internet, use a corporate Virtual Private Network (VPN) that provides firewall protection. Appliance access over SSL All access to the appliance is through HTTPS (HTTP over SSL), which encrypts data over the network and ensures data integrity. Before you perform a Remote Copy operation, ensure the following: Remote Copy groups are started and all Virtual Volumes are in synced status. It is mandatory to configure first vnic (80). Names of all virtual volumes in a synchronous Remote Copy group do not exceed 20 characters. If a snapshot is created without specifying any policy, the policy set on Recovery Set (if exists) is applied on both local and remote appliance. Either time or numeric based policies can be applied. Mixed based policy is not supported. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to refresh a policy before creation of a Snapshot Set. In numeric policy set, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends you to use removeoldestsnap:true so that subsequent snapshots can be created. Configuring RMC for Remote Copy 115
